Thanks Beny! Realized I can just drop the file into LUT Utility through System preferences.
Anyways, the LUT works fantastic! In combination with the Alexa LUT, it makes for some natural and pleasing colors! It's been a pain getting consistent good colors out of the LX100, but this definitely helps a lot!

    Get it now
I have just released a Setup Guide for the Samsung NX1. This guide makes the camera compatible with a range of LUTs so you can more easily apply stylistic moods to 4K footage in post.
Along with the LOG conversion workflow, the guide explains the best settings for the NX1 and what you must know before using it for video work.
The Samsung NX1 is one of my favourite cameras for video and the 4K image quality is simply the best you can get for the money right now.
I have been hard at work on a guide for a while now. This is essentially a 'brain dump' of everything I know about the NX1.
It is an all-in-one reference so you no longer have to search forums for the information and the 12 page arguments that goes with it.
The LUT and workflow included with the book, I am particularly proud of. This converts footage shot with GammaDR on the NX1 to ultra-flat LOG in post. When used with a transcoding app like EditReady it creates 10bit ProRes with a Canon LOG style gamma curve and saturation. This allows you to then apply a LUT in your NLE such as the excellent DELUTS range from James Miller. The whole process is made easy to understand in the book and the camera becomes so much more fun for colour correction as a result.
    Introduction and general recommendations

Maybe I'm the only one interested in the LX100 today, but regardless, I continue posting
Here is a 4K still frame extracted from a video at 100 ISO (50mm f/4).
With good settings, quality is really decent.
Image stabilization works like a charm.
I'm sure that beautiful short films will be shot with the LX100 !

Now I have to make tests at night.

benymypony reacted to Guylberht in First zero budget short film, seeking feedback!
Hello everyone! I'm a french film school student (however we don't practice often it's just mainly theoretical courses and film analysis) and we had recently to create a short fiction (we were to do around 7 shots). We had the plan with my teammate to explore an old abandoned coal washing facility and decided to make something with it, so here it is!
Sound is important so play it loud
Now some explanation. I don't have a lot of money, and our school doesn't have any gear to loan, so we made it a 0$ budget short ahah (well the only thing we paid for was the gas mask). For the prep we had only a few days, so we thought of a story, and we only did the storyboard for the first half of the short (until he enters the factory), as we didn't know what it looked like inside, and we had to improvise on set. It was really run'n'gunning as we only had 9h on location, and some shots are quite rushed...
I shot it with a sony a6000 in AVCHD, with for the most part in exterior the sony 18-105G F4, then in interior the Sony 35mm F1.8 OSS and a Leica Summicron 90mm F2 (pre-asph, which I found in my dad's old camera gear).
For the lighting setup we used an outdoor LED floodlight (which is what the actor is holding inside the factory) and a 200*160 5in1 reflector to bounce some light back.
I edited everything and made the soundtrack on Sony Vegas, then graded everything on DaVinci Resolve Lite.
I'm kinda in a love-hate relationship with it haha, during the edit and post-prod there was some moment I just wanted to delete everything, and I was noticing every little mistake or imperfections, but considering the time limitation, budget the result is fairly ok, and initial feedback was good so I wanted to share it more with people working in this field!
I'd love any advice or feedback from you!

Still playing with the LX100, I tried a lot of profile settings and Highlight/Shadow curves to get the best image for color grading.
Finally I recommend the following settings :
Contrast -2 / Sharpen -3 / Noise reduction -2 / Saturation 0 Highlight -2 / Shadow -2 As it's impossible to apply a real LOG flat profile in-camera, so I created a LUT to flatten the image the safest way.
I based this LUT on the rendering of the VisionLOG profile with some adjustments.

I got a LX100 yesterday and I just started to play with the 4K.
The image is great for a small and inexpensive camera (I got mine at €500/$545, used but as new).
Maybe I'll make a longer post about my opinion on the LX100, but for the time being I love it.
Of course we are far away from the quality of the BMCC 4K but I bought the LX100 to downscale in 1080p and get a beautiful image.
For info, I downscale easily with RockyMountains (freeware).
First thing I noticed is that the 4K image can have a grain a bit thick in dark scenes, even a low ISO.
For example below, I shot at 100 ISO indoor and in this 4K 100% crop you can see the "thick grain".
I tried to reduce this grain in a non-destructive way and finally I got this result via curves and levels :
    Before : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8492265/iwltbapluts/crop-LX100-before.jpg
    After : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8492265/iwltbapluts/crop-LX100-after.jpg
    GIF before/after : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8492265/iwltbapluts/lx100-lut-grain-reducer-before-after.gif
I made a LUT (.3dl and .cube in ZIP, 3.5MB), feel free to test : IWLTBAP_LX100_Grain_Reduction.zip
PS : Yes, I'm aware that a LUT can't modify an image, but just the colors ; here I tried to reduce the chroma of grain/noise and unify the whole in reducing the overall light. Hope it helps

The first retro-styled camera from Panasonic is the first ever compact to shoot 4K video from a large sensor. The first compact that I would call "exceptional" in almost every respect.

benymypony reacted to Andrew Reid in Shootout of the 4K flagships - Canon 1D C versus Samsung NX1
Hollywood wanted a 4K DSLR so Canon saw an opportunity and enabled 1.3x 4K crop video mode on their 1D X. The 1D C was born and the £12,000 price tag made sure nobody bought it.
With the Samsung NX1, the consumer didn't want 4K H.265 but is getting it anyway, because Samsung wants them to buy that lovely 4K TV to view the footage with. This is called technological progress, where more powerful machines are thrust upon an unexpected public and everyone gets excited.
Now the two world collide in this shoutout. Expect fireworks!
The Samsung NX1 is currently on special offer for $1299 at B&H

More expensive but more versatile in my opinion.
It's an all-in-one tool, you will have more fun to play with it, it's perfect to start.
And there are a lot of tutorials on Youtube about how-to-use, like this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z78NI-nL4o0
What you can do with Film Convert or Color Finale, you can do it with Magic Bullet Looks.
