I didn't want to start another thread for just to post a link, so I add this here.
    http://bokehmarket.com/blog/samsung-nx1-best-budget-4k-hybrid-camera-2018-video-stills
Some mistakes there, of course the 16-50 is 2-2.8f, and not 2.8f, and the 45mm is 1.8f not 2f.
Also, the NX certainly has no IBIS, but with some lenses, the Dual IS is quite spectacular (had that covered since 2015 too).

Near "super 35" sensors will always be coveted by filmmakers as a matter of a long withstanding convention. It can and will change, but for now I don't personally know many ppl complaining about the super 35 -ish format in real world applications.
Full frame is more desired in photography, but there's a growing movement to go medium format as those systems come down in price.
It's all relative to how wide you want to go and obtain a shallow depth of feild and light gathering abilities. Usually, if you're shooting wide, it's because you want to show the breadth and detail of the entire frame. Therefore, I feel the sweet spot is super 35, but I'm not married to my own opinions either.
The lowest I'm currently willing to go as far as production is APS-C with back illumination. Samsung spoiled me in this regard.
I'm not touching mirco four thirds with your 10 foot pole. A simple physics issue for me.

I plead with all NX1 and NX500 owners to stop recording handheld footage in 4k.
These cameras do not do well with rolling shutter in 4k, even with slighter movements in the X and even Y axis. Jello and even micro jello all over the place.
This is my biggest gripe with the camera and can totally ruin a shot.
If anyone has figured out the "Rolling Shutter Repair" plugin in After Effects or Premiere in relation to footage specifically from these cameras please share your settings. On default settings, I don't notice much repair at all.

I work around devs all day long and for a long time in my career as a UX Designer. Where there is a will there is a way. But brininging a dev to the will part is uniquely challenging to that personality type.
Many, many devs will say, "No, it can't be done". But in my experience the true translation is all too often, "No, I can't or dont want to do it, but maybe another dev can".
You know the best way to fix that problem? Throw $$ at it and watch how all these "impossible" things suddenly become possible.
Personally, I think it can be done and the internal processor is pretty powerful to boot. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those features were in the backlog and going to be rolled out in time. And I think that would have been enabled in the HDMI clean out channel because SD cards are just too slow.
I think the biggest issue will be heat dissipation. The existing hardware structure could be limited and never built to handle extreme overclocking, and if thats the case there's a huge chance that people will be cooking their cameras in no time.

    @Matthew Hartman Yes I know...
It was strange how much value Samsung brought to the table for such a low price and it was ignored..
That bald dude from Camera Labs completely ignored it... Philip Bloom had one still of it and never looked at it again until he was bored 2 years later and did a auto focus test.
I think directly or indirectly the other companies(canon, sony, etc)  made it clear to big reviewers that they would not appreciate coverage of Samsung NX1 and maybe they would forget to send you the next product for review or forget to invite you to the next swanky New York sony event..
I see it like the Tucker cars of last century... They made a Superior car in the 40's they were the fist to have windshield wipers, seat belts, etc standard but all the other companies Ford, GM, conspired to take them down.
Sony defiantly kicked into high gear when they saw the threat... they released like 4 bodies back to back... I think Samsung forced their hand thats why all their cameras have overheat issues because they weren't quite ready yet.
I think we should create some kind of  a bounty for incentive to get us some raw video...
Ive said it before NX-1 can take 28mp RAW photos @ 15fps = 420mb of information a second
If you could some how tell the camera to only record 8mp RAW still(every 4k frame is 8mp) @24 fps = 192mb of information per second
You know the hardware could do it!
EOSHD was pretty much the epicenter of the NX1 buzz/cult... I was just about to drop $900 bucks on a Canon 70D and then Andy dropped the Lisbon video... Doh!
Today only like 6 of us on average post on here weekly. The dream is dead.
    Or is it?

I'm the guy that launched the petition. I would say at this point the system is obviously toast.
I still own and use my NX1 to date. It is still a viable camera, and still as underrated as the day it was released.
I've heard from several South Koreans that the transfer in management is what actually killed the previous camera business. Basically, it was a pet project by the much older previous CEO before his nephew took the reigns, and obviously showed us he had no skin in the game. I'm sure it was widely seen as "forward-facing", but in my view it was very premature. We could have had an NX2, maybe even NX3 by now and although it wouldnt have been as profitable as say their appliance and smartphone offerings, it will still bring in a considerable amount of cash and more importantly kick back by reputation to their other products.
I'm sure many Samsung employees that worked on the NX system were just as disappointed as it's customers, as it was obvious they were striving for excellence and to cause a stir within the industry. You don't cram all those features (in 2014) into a body when your competition is still shooting muddy 1080p (ahem Canon, Nikon, Sony) if you're not trying to put a stake in the ground.
With exception of Mr. Reid, a lot of camera pros were pretty hostile towards Samsung's lineup, and couldn't decide if it loved or hated the camera. The exit gave them more fuel to put down the system, and gave the industry yet another excuse to move at a snail's pace.
The NX system was headed towards excellence and household name status. That is what Samsung does. Had it not been for the change of leadership, there's no doubt in my mind that it would have been a leader, if not THE leader and bar for all other manufactures to live up to.
I've owned very few Samsung products that were faulty. Some may not like the name or have preconceived ideas about the quality of Asian markets/products (most cameras are Asian born) but at least where Samsung is concerned they are a giant, not just in South Korea, but globally. I'm not sure why the skeptics were so skeptical, but their cynical attitude certainly didn't help matters. What it did do in part was made sure that innovation remains slow and incremental. So thanks.
I watch YouTuber's like Tom Antos, Film Riot, Film Courage, Curtis Judd, and many more along this vein. How is it all these channels are acutely aware of the GH4 but have no idea the NX1 line even existed? It never shows up in their gear recommendations past or present, which I believe shows a telling pattern.
Tony Northrup, The CameraStoreTV, Matt Granger, Max Yuryev, and Rocket Jump Film School did actually review/use the NX1 and their responses were generally positive. Although the guys at CameraStoreTV were actually more on the fence but they did dedicate two whole segments to the NX1/500, albeit slightly sarcastically.
DigitalREVTV did a asinine video review of the NX500 which was basically as one commenter put it, "An 11 minute long bash because it was a Samsung and not Apple". But that Brit is a cynical muppet and Canon/Apple fanboy anyway. But it serves as a good illustration of how many pros received, more like perceived the entire line.
What I never understood is how on one hand you could sing the praises of the GH4 and yet dismiss the NX1/500, which in my professional opinion was and still is the better camera of the two. In some regards it wasn't even comparable.
The NX system is that anomaly camera/lens that we're not likely to see again anytime soon. If you own any of these products I advise you to hold on to them. Don't worry about the detractors, they most likely never even used the camera.
We need to re-petition our hacker community to further investigate opening up the power of the NX1/500, and I would suggest employing them in this effort full stop through crowdsourcing/donation.
I would not count on Samsung themselves to resurrect the business or even offer another Firmware update. I and others have done our due diligence on behalf of the NX community in to let Samsung know our love for the NX1 system and our frustration in "their" decision to pull out. I put this petition in front of a handful of Directors, both past and present, using my influence and connections as an ex HTC and Microsoft employee, having worked on projects in cooperation with Samsung.
Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say "they" have chosen to broadly ignore our pleas. Employees and shareholders are different beasts, at a certain level it's to be expected. This is how it goes in general.
That being said, those that know the beast that is Samsung knows they can be unpredictable at times and pull out a wild card. Translated, I wouldn't hold my breath, and yet I wouldn't count them out in the future either. They will act if they see a value prop for their business and they have the capacity to compete at the drop of the hat on a global scale.
I learned one thing in creating this petition. Those that own or have used the NX system absolutely love the hell out of it. You will hardly see a comment (about 928) that expresses a mundane reaction to these products. That truly says something about the quality and innovation of the product AND the gap of this quality and innovation in the market right now. It's awesome and interesting to see people from all over the globe echo this similar sediment. Its a true community.

Also, thank you, thank you for letting your dark scenes be dark. I feel like in the gimmicky high ISO craze, suddenly we've become concerned about taking darkness away. The darkness is as much a storytelling tool as the light. We don't always have to see the detail lurking in the shadows. Let it be a mystery.

I have used those 3 cameras, and the GH5 extensively for video work (even for TV shows). I would take the NX1 any day of the week.
It is amazing how NX1 is still one of the best hybrids in the market, in my opinion, the best HYBRID (a camera 50% for photos and 50% for video), as A7r cameras are photo orientated, A7s video, Sony APS-C lack pro body and features, Fuji is still mostly photo orientated (they are missing a ton of video features vs the NX1), GH5 is obviously video centric etc etc
Also, there is a tendency for higher and higher prices, that makes me reluctant to invest to more hardware right now. The big changes will come with the adaptation of the HDR standard in the next few years, but right now the industry has competing standards and technology, so I wouldn't worry about that, yet. As I have said already many times, no one ever has asked me for 4K delivery, which isn't the same as HDR delivery, but you can imagine that HDR - which is brand new, will take a few good years to be the norm in video productions.
The only issue I face, is the fact that Samsung is not a player in the industry, so I have to work with a lot of different brands, and I can't "sell" my equipment for jobs or projects with other people directing/producing. Funny thing: in early summer, a camera operator (he uses only Canon D5 and series Cameras) did 3rd camera on a performance coverage I produced, and I gave him the NX1. I explained a few things, and he did his job. He called a couple of weeks ago and asked for the camera because "I liked that little GH4 a lot"! He didn't even understood it was a Samsung, after me mentioned it 4-5 times!

He he basically said what we all know... NX1 isn't best at anything but very good at everything (but  lowlight).  Seems if he was forced to pick one for all his video+ photo needs. NX is it.

I still think that we'll not see a real competitor for NX1 for some years to come, mainly because all the main investments are into the FF or M4/3 field. So APSC is a bit left behind, with only Fuji in the game.

It depends on what you need to do with the camera.
If you want to shoot a video with standard colors and sunlight, the advantage is minimal.
If you want to use the DR profile to get a better workflow in post production then the hack is highly recommended because it drastically reduces compression issues.
    h265 200Mbps it's like a 400Mbps on h264 codec, my opinion it's that the h265 hack it's better, similar to 10bit ProRes.

I shoot with GH5's every day at work while all of my personal and side projects are shot on the NX1 and NX500.

Obviously the 4k 60p on the GH5 is fantastic. And I quite like V-Log as well, it's far easier to grade than Sony's log profiles, and nicely preserves the dynamic range without destroying colors. I haven't really shot/graded 10-bit footage that much, as it is just overkill for the kind of work I have been doing, and the 8-bit is fine. I like how big the EVF is, and how you can switch between viewfinder and LCD screen easily while recording. There are lots of great and easily re-mappable function buttons, and you can program and save shooting modes in the custom profiles dial much easier and more effectively than you can on the NX cameras, which don't even save the video data at all. Of course, you can also move the zoomed-in focus checking area, unlike NX, and the tilty/flippy screen is preferable to the tilt-only screen. And you can't forget about the IBIS, which is just fantastic for handheld shooting, truly a game-changer for my kind of work, I need a monopod for my NX1 at all times.
    That being said...
I far prefer the NX cameras' photo/video implementation; it is still the simplest, best camera I have ever used for switching quickly between stills and video. No specific mode dials needed. Tap the shutter button to take a picture, hit the record button to record. The NX1 seems to have quite a bit better battery life than the GH5 in my experience as well. It is also lighter and feels better in the hands- the NX1 is an insanely comfortable camera, in the fact still the best I have ever used ergonomically, while the GH5 is surprisingly heavy and a bit bulky. The GH5 also has this very annoying tendency to hesitate for just a split-second or two when you hit the record button, which doesn't sound like a big deal, but it hesitates just long enough that I have double-pumped many, many times, while the NX seems immediately responsive. I do prefer the the menu system on the NX cameras as well.
As far as out-and-out IQ comparison, I have one of Luca's speedboosters on my NX1 pretty much all the time, so I have actually gotten quite used to the full frame look, especially DOF-wise, so it almost feels limiting sometimes to only have a super-35 equivalent with a Speedbooster on the GH5. Color-science wise, I can't say I prefer the one over the other - - in good light, I think both cameras look fantastic, with great skin tones and malleable colors -- basically you'll be able to get the look you're going for in post with either camera. The autofocus on the NX cameras is far, far better than the GH5, if that's important to you. And the NX1's internal 6.5k to 4k downscale is still unbeaten, detail-wise. The image is always just unbelievably sharp and detailed. The GH5 doesn't quite match that. And while the low-light and noise on the GH5 is probably preferable (clean at 1600, useable at 3200) I rarely, if ever, need these ISOs anyway, especially with the speedbooster and some fast glass to boot.
Of course, I'm not mentioning stills quality at all, I haven't shot many stills on the GH5, but obviously the NX is going to win that competition hands-down, it is still, even several years later, one of the best APS-C sensors ever made, with insanely good dynamic range, especially when pulling shadows.

So, bottom line, should you switch?
I think that depends. If you're pure run-and-gun, then yes, the IBIS (and the 4k 60p, if you need high-res slo-mo, with the benefit of a good log profile) is a pretty unbeatable combo for video right now. Throw in the 10-bit, and it's future-proofed for quite some time. The low-light IQ is more than enough. I think the GH5 is easily the best bang-for-the-buck camera around right now, and will remain so for quite some time. But if you're already invested in the NX system, which has its own fantastic native lenses (16-50S, wow), IQ wise I really don't think you're gaining that much. Not enough to go through the hassle of trying to sell and offload all my Samsung gear. I quite enjoy the GH5. But I still love shooting with my NX cameras, and don't feel like I'm losing out of for most of the kind of work that I do.

So take that as you will.

I have used the GH5 a few times professionally (major TV networks), I prefer the NX1 in every way (battery, ergonomics, menu system).
There is an interesting time lapse feature though, and especially 10bit are good for some specific pro jobs. I didn't edit the footage but my impression is that there is a lot more noise than NX in low ISO, and the oxymoron here, but in high bitrate files, higher ISO seem more organic, 3200 is usable, while in NX is not, but in no way is a low light camera, I would take C100mkII anytime for high ISO.

Yesterday I have tried for first time the Zeiss Distagon 28 f/2 Zf.2 on NX1, and my friends, in the screen of my laptop I've seen God. Great 3D, amazing colors, incredibly alive images, an interstellar trip. Never seen something like that on my Sony A7s II.
