Here is an ungraded grab from the G7 shooting CineLikeD with everything dialed down. I used the Tokina 35mm f2 lens with a Fotodiox ND Throttle adapter...

Here it is with just a curve adjustment...

And here it is letterboxed, with the Tetrachrome LUT from Impulz, and some Gorilla Grain...

I owned both the G7 & GH4 and recently managed to use both cams on a wedding shoot before selling the GH4, I saw no reason to keep it. The G7 wins, I'm talking picture quality not features, the GH4 has loads of great features and should not be discounted however, all depends on what type of media you shoot. Just get a G7 already if you are considering it, for $500 or less you can't go wrong, its dope. Would make a great B-cam to the A6300 or similiar. Here is the wedding I shot with both cams, all night footage at the very end shot with the g7, not the GH4 which suffers by 1 1/2 stops.

you dont want to be ever using auto white balance either , that is handing over one of the most powerful creative descissions to the camera's internal processor - not a good idea - always set your Kelvin manually - this is the great thing about the Panny cameras they have total control of the colour temperature you are shooting it , you can do this also on the RED and the Alexa .its an essential film making function.
I dont use the presets isos and I dont EVER use auto WB, dial it in manually to fit your scene you are filming , this has a massive impact on the colour of the image and its a creative tool so use your eye and set it so it looks good , all the Panny cameras work better this way ,I found out 5 years ago that they look better when slightly warmer in Kelvin than you would normally shoot.
EG shoot 4000k when you use 3200K Tungstan lights - you get nicer skin tones
outside I always shoot 6500k , if its sunny rainy overcast clouds  ...it looks so much better than 5600k which is your standard go to film in sunlight Kelvin setting .
Be creative and push the camera into good looking colours using the variable Kelvin of the Panny.

Distrubutors still want 2k masters so I edit 2k Proxy files and conform the 4k files for the master , grade in 4k the output 2K ProRes deliverables

Im shooting 16:9 and extracting 2.40 in post - framing for 2.40 in camera using the guide line and tape on the rear screen .
I always shoot natural profile saturation -5 , contrast -5
I put the colour back in with curves , no LUTS  no Cine d , no LOG profiles , keep it simple and it looks good . use your eye - its the only way for me

when you are working on a Movie you sign a contract and NDA ! and that contrat says there is an embargo on anything going out without premission from the film company - they own everything they paid for it including all my tests - now we live in a world of Facebook and twitter film companies dont want any leaks beore their marketing department decides what people can see and when .
So yes I can tell you the results of all my tests right now - just take my word the G7 kicks ass , with a Metabones XL - Nikon Glass and Atomos Ninja Assassin all rigged up on my Gini Rigs cages it s a serious film making tool

Now Colour grading is all in my eye - I shoot flat and add the colour in post - alot of my colour is on set I light always with coloured gels and get the look I want in camera - just on a flat profile so I get cleaner blacks with more detail - not crushed out

camera tests where paid for by the production company so they own them , I can't post those , BUT take it from me the results where mind blowing , I was amazied it was so good and clean in the blacks in low light no fizzing noise at all and NO BANDING at all , I did lots a of graduated Gelled lights spread across walls and tested from Bight colours to falling off into shadows and NO BANDING !! very nice clean images , did alot of heavy grading in a DaVinci Suite at Media City in Salford and we pushed the images to the max and they held up to all we threw at them , this camera is significantly better in my opinion than the GH4 , rigged up correctly it is a very serious film making tool and a very good price for what it delivers all the tests where done 24p UHD 4k in Natural Profile contrast -5, saturation -5 (I did not use Cine D we tested it alot and it takes too much correction to get it back usable. ) Maximum ISO I used was up to 800 , I'm lighting sets to f2.8 and max 800 ISO is cool , I'm down at 400 and 320 alot .

it is alot cleaner in low light - the blacks are stunningly clean, cleaner than the Red Epic we tested it against, image looks very similar to the Arri Alexa we tested it against - there is hardly anything in it !! amazing camera from Panasonic   , the G7 camera lets you shoot in the shadows very cleanly in very low light. I am using 4 Panasonic G7 cameras for the new Pandora feature film I am DOP on , Panasonic have partnered up with us for this movie and we are working together to show how good the G7 is a film making tool. I am using Metabones XL Speedboosters on all the cameras, Brian Caldwell and Metabones have kindly supplied them for us to use in Nikon and EF mount . We are using these with Atomos Ninja Assassins and all the rigs for the movie are supplied by Gini Rigs , I will post some pics of these rigs soon.

Mat Mayer reacted to Andrew Reid in Help me pick! Samsung NX1 vs Sony Alpha a6300 vs Sony Alpha a7S II
Funnily enough they discontinued Canon FD lenses in the 80's and they are still easy to get on eBay in 2016 so I wouldn't worry about anything NX1 related becoming 'unobtainable' any time soon, if anything it will just get cheaper, which is nice.
The NX1 is by far the most pleasant to shoot with ergonomically. Feel in the hand is great. My hand and the A7S II have never got on very well. It doesn't quite feel as bad as clutching a bag of nails but it does feel like clutching a soulless badly designed camera body with fiddly badly placed buttons, for sure.
NX1 fits like a glove and your hand wraps most comfortably around the most important controls.
I even prefer it to a Canon 5D body and that says a lot.
A6300 is cute, small, but still just as soulless and fiddly ergonomically as the A7S II. As for the image we'll have to wait and see... I am going to do a comparison with the NX1. I think for the money it is great. Unless you need the in-body stabilisation and headphone jack of the A7S II, then the A6300 will serve you just fine especially with Speed Booster and it can do 12,800 pretty comfortably from what I have seen of the early footage. I rarely go higher than that. NX1 meanwhile will give you better colour straight off the card, no fuss to grade, better ergonomics, top panel LCD, weather sealing and sharper 120fps... Super clean ISO 800. ISO 1600 ok. ISO 3200 starts to get bad.
    Your call

I'd personally take an NX1 for ergonomics, color, and battery life, but it depends more on your tastes and priorities than anything.

Even for the BMMCC you'd want the BMPCC SpeedBooster and not the M43 XL. I feel like things change to rapidly at the moment to make long term planning / investments. If you do videos as a business, consider your ROI. If you do it as a hobby, decide between being conservative with money or splurgig because gear makes you happy.
I've just decided to sit tight on camera investments until more "want to have" criterias meet in one product even though I'd like to upgrade/sidegrade.

I do a lot of aerial video and I don't find this P4 very interesting. Not that It's a bad product but on a video standpoint, it brings very little compared to the previous P3 Pro.
Still does 4K30 at 60Mbps, similar ISO performance, no new log or Codec.
In other words, the P3 Pro will soon be sold for half the price of the P4  with the same video performance. Same for the batteries, the DJI smart batteries are known to be pricy ($150 each) and I expect a drop on the P3 batteries as it happened with the P2 when the P3 came out. Overall it will compensate the few minutes of additional flight time of the P4.
Then there is the 1080 / 120, but let's see how it performs. These high frame rate mode are usually very bad in term of moire and aliasing (eg GoPro 4).
Last, the real deal for me is the dual IMU that may help to avoid the DJI's infamous "fly away". But again, I prefer to save money and throw $250 in a full parachute kit with automatic deployment such as the Mars Lite and Mayday board that will ensure better safety for any drone malfunction, not just IMU/compass/GPS.
Overall, IMHO, I would say, buy a discounted P3 Pro with a bunch of batteries if you don't care about all the bell and whistle auto flight modes. You'll get the same IQ at a very competitive price.
    Shoot with my P3P

Im reviewing the Microsoft Lumia 950.
As some of you know, the Lumias have had manual focus, exposure and 24p for years. They got 4K well before the iPhone as well.
Also first with wide apertures and IS.

A new party trick is the macro, which is really close.
And while playing around with it in the house, one thing lead to another.

Mat Mayer reacted to M Carter in Follow up to B&H - Workers Unionize
I grew up in Detroit, where the unions began as a good thing but eventually became huge and bloated and were cesspools of waste, mixed with valid employee representation; they also became another profit center for organized crime and eventually a parasite on society.
I had friends who worked for the big three, and if you had no education, it was considered the holy grail - get unionized, get the benefits, and then learn the ropes of how to do as little work as possible. (Read "RivetHead", an entertaining but depressing memoir from an 80's era GM line worker). It was a big part of why Japan roared into the auto business like it did - Detroit's QC was abysmal and the market came to expect it as part of the deal.
I'm sure for smaller businesses there is much more control, and we live in an age where jobs are more scarce and most people know they have to perform well. But the Northern US unions that reached their heyday just as the oil crises and economic decline hit (and made huge industrial and service businesses far more vulnerable to economic decline) gave a bad name to unions; I had a relative with about 20 employees in an industrial setting - he said "the day they unionize is the day I retire!" But he also knew that decent pay and benefits and a good working environment was a key to employee retention.
In the US today, where corporate interests and near-oligarchy are where the power for making policy and laws is coming from, unions are a threat to the "winner take all" maximizing of profits and minimizing of pay and benefits to all but the top tier, so they get labeled "socialism" and the failures of unions in the past are constantly brought up. We're probably in an age where unions on a major level could so some serious good; but I can't see it happening with all the money that controls the process.
I'm not really worried about terrorism, gay marriage, or the decline of religion in the US; I'm wondering what our country looks like at the natural end of those income-inequality charts. Nothing has stopped the direction those lines are going yet.

Since Mr. Jones brought it up -
As a follow-up story to B&H Photo Video and Worker Abuses - they have unionized.
And this is partly because of people like you and me:
"The workers received additional support on Oct. 22, when a coalition of photography and video professionals launched an open letter to B&H management, calling on the company to end the hazardous working conditions and discriminatory practices. They also called on the company to negotiate a fair labor contract. Within a week more than 1,000 signatures from artists, journalists, gallerists, educators, students and photo technicians were obtained.
“We welcome the workers at B&H to the USW and look forward to addressing their concerns with the company at the bargaining table,” said Shinn."
    http://www.usw.org/news/media-center/releases/2015/bh-photo-warehouse-employees-vote-to-join-usw-union
This is an example of social media activism being successful.  The employees now have collective bargaining powers.
    Hooray!
