    S1 Anyone?

Ooh the S1 with Voigtlander - what a lovely combination, do you have any footage or screen grabs you could share?
  2. the now free full V-log firmware update which I think comes out in a few weeks will give the S1 the best audio quality of all the mirrorless offerings, especially if you pair it with their XLR microphone adaptor DMW-XLR1
  3. Some great stuff here, the EOS-m looks like a true little bargain thanks to Magic Lantern, shame they haven't got it working on the M50 before I sold it, may have kept me in the Canon family
  4. I have to laugh at your rolling shutter comment after it not being an issue for you on the EOS-r, but you're right about this Hassleblad - it's a beautiful piece of design which keeps some of that classic Hasselblad feel, hope it isn't all form over function and I don't think video was ever going to be high on their list of priorities
  5. Stop with your misinformation and I'll stop calling you out on it. Simple really. Anyway yes sorry Squig, am also interested in your findings
  6. It seems you're now spreading misinformation about other cameras too... as you advised your employer to buy a camera in 2019 that only really works in hd then ok let's talk hd - the Sony A7r3 and A73 have in hd full frame and s35 (according to Samuel from DVXuser whose results I trust) some of the fastest rolling shutter speeds he has recorded. The XT3 isn't bad either. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?303559-Measuring-rolling-shutter-put-a-number-on-this-issue! I can't find any hd measurement for the EOS-r, Samuel said if it was a more interesting camera he would try to measure it. Maybe you could send him a sample and he can put a measurement to it Having had a play with the EOS-r I can say that unfortunately the sharp s35 hd mode you compared to the C100 also has terrible rolling shutter. It is only the fairly soft full frame hd that is useable handheld. Not great in 2019
  7. According to Mattias there is no rolling shutter with the EOS-r ?
  8. that's the S1 which does 4k 60p 8 bit internal 10 bit external, think SH1 is limited to 30p in 6k
  9. I was referring to the SH1 doing 10 bit 422 internal. No other camera in its class does 4k 60p 10 bit 422 internal I've just got an XT3, wonderful camera for its price, have not tested 4k 50p at 400mb for long periods, how long do you think you could record before it overheats? AM curious
  10. I think 10 bit internal may have quite a bit to do with it. And Sony don't seem to care too much about their 8 bit cameras overheating
  11. Although talking of cameras under £10k the Varicam LT is now under £9,500 (I realise you need to spend more to get it up and running) and that image is hard to beat. The S1 and SH1 would be great b cam and gimbal cams to the Varicam with their 14 stops DR full V-log and Varicam colour gamut and 10 bit 422 internal. Neither Sony or Canon have such a small camera with high DR and 10 bit internal to support their higher end stuff, (although the lenses obviously have different mounts)
  12. for a feature film and with RAW internal yes I think the UMP4.6k has the best image of all cameras under £10k, at those used prices I would go for it
  13. The Canon c100 is a great camera with a lovely image for 8 bit, is a pity Canon never seemed interested in supporting it with a decent hybrid b cam. BM pocket 4k is a great camera too, but rightly or wrongly is haunted by the 'unreliable' reputation that has preceded other BM cameras. Is a pity as the image is wonderful, hopefully it will gain in trust and we get to see more of them used in productions
  14. I've bought a few things over the years from Panamoz - good price and fortunately not had to deal with their 2 year warranty they offer, not sure how that works - it's imported from Hong Kong so grey market. I have seen quite a few GH5s being used, mainly as b cams to people with Sony fs7 who prefer it to the 8 bit of the Sony a7 series. Nobody I know would use Sony's 8 bit slog for professional use - it is too brittle and falls apart at the slightest provocation. Compared to Canon 8 bit clog which is usable. Attempting to get back on topic - I think the SH1 has a similar niche to the GH5s - it will be seen as a serious b cam for those using cameras such as EVA1, Fs7, C200 and above - the rest of us mortals will see much more value in the S1 and GH5 respectively
  15. Sounds about right - I'd say the c100 was at least a stop below that in the highlights
  16. was talking about for video - admittedly haven't tried the 5d4 in clog but with my C100 I always found the claimed 12 stops with clog seemed a bit optimistic, it definitely had a lot less DR than the Sony a6300 in slog2
  17. Canon stills cameras have nowhere near 13 stops of DR, as well as their soft hd the lack of DR has been the hardest thing to deal with when trying to match them with other cameras. Nikon have always been a bit better and then using log with Fuji xt3, Sony A6300 and A7 with slog (although the 8 bit has issues), and now finally the S1 has brought DR up to that 14 stops benchmark
  18. Ah I see... I have read on dvxuser that there will be IBIS and also weather sealing - that there will be passive cooling via a big heatsink. I don't think Panasonic have done themselves any favours by not getting out all the information out in a clear and concise way - leading to people making their own conclusions and passing them off as fact.
  19. Where are you getting this information from, I've been told that there is IBIS?
  20. You conveniently forgot (yet again) about its crap 4k too. The Eos-r is only really workable to me as a HD camera. For the price that's pretty pathetic in 2019 - here in the UK the EOS-r is £2349 with adaptor, the S1 is £2199 with full V-log. Other than AF the S1 in my opinion is way more of a camera for less money. And DBounce I'm not sure where all this talk about the S1 being way more expensive than the rest has come from. The Nikon z6 is only £1529 though, that's a pretty good deal Apologies for going a little off topic
  21. Mattias you're talking about a hd camera with no rolling shutter. In 4k it's a disaster. A little misleading don't you think. Yes that would be amazeballs, i hope they do, but when? It would need 10 bit as well cause slog isn't workable in 8 bit and all the other colour profiles on Sony are horrible and lack DR. And yes their IBIS is way behind Panasonic as well at the moment
  22. If Sony finally does release a full frame camera with 4k60p and 10 bit internal it is going to have to be a much bigger camera than the A7. Their track record for dealing with the heat these specs would bring is abysmal. People have grumbled about the size of the S1 but I don't think a smaller body would work. Panasonic are the masters of dealing with heat - their cameras haven't suffered with that issue like all it's competitors have. I'm pretty sure that's a big reason we've not seen a Sony a7s3 - there's no way they can squeeze 4k60p in those bodies without it exploding, and now Panasonic have pushed the specs even higher with 6k, Sony will have to bring out a much bigger body to compete
  23. https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/06/01/panasonic-lumix-s1-dmw-sfu2-software-upgrade-key/ Newshooter is saying the V-log update to the S1 is free up until october, the S1 is sounding better and better
