tweak reacted to anonim in ZCam E2 4k footage in the wild, including ungraded and 120fps
History in general and recent history obliged us to believe in Chinese marketing even if it sometimes looks strange...

Same for me most of the time. Sometimes it shits the bed all together and will just never stop "buffering".

I've had fast internet for years and YT works most of the time but Vimeo has never worked.
It's like it loads a bit, gets 1 second before the buffer runs out and then says "oh, shit, I better start trying to load some more...... damn!"

tweak reacted to mercer in Canon EOS M50 - an accidental 4K Digital Bolex
As he said, he’s an old ENG guy, to him the C100 looks like a toy. If you want really small, pick up an SL2, now that thing is tiny. But for the features you’re looking for, if you want to stay with Canon, you may have to go bigger. And honestly, without the top handle, and shooting handheld, I don’t think the C100 would draw any more attention than your XC10.
Yeah I would love something like that too. As I said, right now I’m happy with the 5D3, but if Canon were to think out of the box like they did with the C200 and introduce some kick ass video features in this new FF mirrorless or the new cine camera, at a reasonable price point, I would definitely consider it. Hell I don’t even want the 4K, so I should be easy to impress.

I love canon products. If they could deliver even good 4K (10-bit?) (with an option to shoot open gate ) on that FF mirrorless I'd be stoked. It would certainly streamline the equipment I need to carry.

@tweak there aren’t too many ML Raw users around, so I remember the few of us.
It’s funny I almost bought a GH5 last summer... actually I did order an open box model but an hour later I looked at footage from my 5D3 and I cancelled the order.
A FF Canon mirrorless is very exciting to me as well, especially if you follow the rumor sites. Almost every rumor has stated that it is video oriented... what that means to Canon...
But I am really kinda hoping that they will sneak RawLite into it... even if it’s only 1080p, I’d be floored.
Between the FF mirrorless and the supposed new cinema line, I am hoping for the best. With all of their faults, I still enjoy the build and form factor of Canon cameras.
In the meantime, the M50 seems like it could be a fun camera to toy around with.

For me it's a case of starting with what is best for the subject matter of the material, and what the film conventions are, and then working back from there with the minimum equipment. I agree with you completely - just because IS means you can get gimbal-like smoothness doesn't mean every shot should be a gimbal shot.
I think I use the IS to be able to get the same kind of shots that those with tripods typically tend to do, but just not needing the setup time and hassle. Ie, static shots, pans (if there's a landscape or something larger than fits in the frame), or to follow an object (a person or animal).
It's interesting that the C100mkII is smaller, it doesn't look that much smaller unfortunately although it's hard to find a good picture.
I guess that what I'm asking for is somewhere between the XC10 and the C100. In terms of adding features, it's more likely to be a reduction from the C100 - a C50 perhaps? - although I'm not convinced that the increased size of the C100 sensor must mean that the camera has to be as large as the C100.
The argument that a C100 isn't too large because larger cameras exist is just silly. It's like saying that the truck that is too large to fit in your garage does fit because road trains exist.
I'm right there with you!

Why can't canon just do something half decent? I'd kill for an APS-C canon version of a6500 or GH5 etc... Yeah I know why, but still it would be nice.

Trying to get nice 1080 while casual handheld shooting with an ILC is a mine-field I've been trying to cross for some time.
To grossly over-simplify:
All cinema cameras are out because they're either too heavy or too attention grabbing Canon non-cinema cameras are deliberately crippled to protect their cinema line Canon with ML is unreliable and has a steep learning curve The GH5 either can't focus reliably or people can't work out how to do it The Sonys all seem to overheat (although depending on what you shoot this might not be an issue) and the smaller/cheaper ones have bad RS The Fuji XH-1 chews batteries and the extra grip costs extra and makes it pretty heavy Things like the original BMPCC need a rig and becomes cumbersome (BMPCC needs external power) Going modular with things like the BMMCC requires a rig and BMMCC has almost no controls and so you can't use it to adapt to changing situations Mostly the way I see people getting around this combination is to either choose Canons soft 1080, sacrifice reliability and use Canon ML RAW, get a fast fixed-lens camera like RX100 or RX10, accept RS and overheating with a6300/6500, or accept a fixed focal length and give a big middle-finger to the whole industry and use their phone (where with up to 4k60 and 1080p240 it beats everything up to 10x or 20x the price). Or just put it on a tripod, and accept that you'll get hassled or barred from most places you go.
The basic issue is that industry assumes that consumers who want convenience don't want image quality (compact point-and-shoots), consumers who want image quality only take photos (Canon DSLRs take lovely photos), or that if you want image quality then you're a pro and you can use a tripod and don't mind a huge camera. We're caught between the other users basically.

I bet their VR cameras have much much fatter profit margins, even though the number of them they sell would be much lower they might still make more from those sales overall.

Also remember if you like Rokinon lenses, the 12mm f/2.2 cine lens comes in the EF-M mount.
They have a few of those smaller aps-c lenses. I’ve used the 12 and the 21mm, which I liked for their size and smooth operation. They also have a fast 35mm. So on the M50 with 4K crop, the 3 lenses would give about a 28mm, 50mm, and 85mm FOV respectively... hell, it almost sounds like they were made for the 4K crop of the M50.
Haha, just posted something similar.
But the good thing about the 1” lenses is that you can get almost new copies for less than 50 each... so depending how serious you want to be with the M50, would determine how much you want to drop on lenses for it.

I mean, in the second post of this thread you referred to it selling by the truck load and proceeded to be dismissive of my skepticism and all feature requests people have made in a thread about what features we, as potential customers, want. Then, when engaged in actual discussion you ignored comments, criticism, and concerns, defaulting back to talk of the specs, etc. All the while I've been cordial and appreciative of your enthusiasm for the camera (multiple times no less), only for you to resort to name calling and accusing ME of being a troll?
OK.

@newfoundmass They produce other cameras besides the E1 and you're right I've never heard of anyone releasing cameras with issues... cough cough.
Straight to SSD would be ideal but that isn't in the scope of it's size. You can take GH5 out and shoot 120fps 4K possibly in Prores and Raw? No.
These are ideally totally different products for different markets, comparing it to what you think is a good camera (a dslr) and writing it off for not being such is naive, especially when the thing doesn't even exist yet.
It's not even on sale... how is it "already a tough sell" hahaha. I'm sure they will sell just fine if they deliver.
I think people have the wrong idea about what this camera is supposed to be. As far as I can tell from designer comments it's focus is on multi camera shoots and live streaming, it's not designed primarily to compete as a DSLR although can be rigged out to be more of a cine camera. It's something similar to a BMMCC, which as far as I'm aware sold quite well, thus I don't see the reason for the stigma towards this new design which has many upgrades over a BMMCC (if delivered). I'm just glad someone else is giving it a go and trying to give the market amazing specs at a realistic price, even if they don't deliver everything I'm glad someone is actually trying.

tweak reacted to BTM_Pix in What we want in the ZCam E2
I'm presuming it will be the same protocol as the Z-Cam so it is actually pretty comprehensive in terms of what can be controlled.
Its implemented in much the same way as the Sony so porting to my current controller would be a quick job.
I'd need a donor camera though to test it and it will be behind Sony and BM in the queue for the port but as I say it wouldn't take long to do.

tweak reacted to sanveer in What we want in the ZCam E2
I read a lot of reviews of the Z Cam E1, and many users were more than satisfied after the various firmware updates and after the price cut. But, considering it was a product by a small little startup, they seemed to have resolved a lot of the issues users had when the product was released.
I too feel the Z Cam Z2 could have included a screen and some (more) ports and a SD Card slot. Also, ProRes and RAW. But it does include H264 and H265, and if Sony and Panasonic's implementation of codecs is any indication, than one won't really be missing ProRes (though we could do with RAW).
It also seems to have wifi, and I am guessing if it has an App that's even close to @BTM_Pix quality of implementation, it could be a runaway success. Or better still, @BTM_Pix makes a controller for the ZCam E2. That would be a great collaboration.

Yeah that was the major quirk I ran into and didn't expect. I did a fair amount of tweaking of different shots, but definitely missed a few. I guess in a perfect world I'd shoot a chart or something at different focus lengths and use that as reference?

I'll put my hand up too and say I never use AF and only sometimes use IS. IS is great on static shots, but problematic on moving / tracking shots. Just like gimbals, with many "tells" for bad operating.
But I'm not everyone.

Neither of those lenses are particularly great. Fun to mess around with for a stylised look though if you're after that. (I've had both).

tweak reacted to mercer in Fast apertures on the GH5 = Full frame
Interesting article and great job matching the focal lengths and depths of field, but the cost associated with getting the full frame look with the GH5 will put you at $2500-$3000. With an a7iii and a Nikkor 35mm f/2, you can be well on your way for less than $2200, plus you’ll have the option to go with f/1.4 and 1.2 lenses and higher ISOs.
The Voigts are a great cheat though and the 25mm is one of the best lenses I’ve ever used.
