tweak reacted to Andrew Reid in Blackmagic: a middle-gound...?
I think there's room above the Pocket 4K for the same image quality in a better built body with more features. Seems like a no brainer to me. People love the image and the back-end monitoring on the Pocket but it's never going to have the depth of features of a GH5 for the price it is - they would have to up the price to make it more ambitious. Around $2500 would bring us all sorts of goodies. I also wish the form factor would be more along the lines of a GH5 as well with an EVF.

tweak reacted to Andrew Reid in X-T3 vs A7III vs EOS R vs Z7 vs Pocket 4K - Video Quality Compared!
Default sharpness varies a lot between cameras. Even minimum sharpening level does. Maybe set them all at minimum then level them out in post with unsharp mask or even small blur for the horrible oversharpened ones.
EOS R is not line skipping. It’s 1:1

I am sorry i did not mean to critique your brofriend
The problem I have is that it's incomplete. There's no telling what sharpness was dialled into each picture profile. That makes a ton of difference.
There's no telling what the hell he did to the zoomed shots.
The EOS R just does not look like that at 100% crop. He's turned into absolute mush when you view this full screen (click it to enlarge)...
What codec settings? He doesn't say.
Was it IPB or ALL-I?
What bit-rate?
Did he shoot RAW or ProRes on the Pocket?
Did he compare the sharpness in the LOG profiles as well? Nope. That's how most filmmakers will use these cameras... In LOG! (Or at least Flat on the Nikon)
Nothing personal but I just didn't rate it.
And on top of all that, it's just pixel peeping. Overall results and cinematic quality matter more than resolution.

Average Joe definitely looks to Canikon since they are so familiar names. But I also think for many of us brand has very little to do with it. All of these cameras where available when my EOS-R arrived and I still bought it, and so did others. Before that me and many with me choose the 6Dmkii well aware about the A7iii, GH5, etc. And I'm sure I'm not alone in being mostly a Panasonic and Sony shooter. So it was not because of the brand.
Nor was it for the side by side image quality. I was shooting both 2.5K and 4K Raw before 4K even took off. I've had most popular 4K hybrids to date as well as the BMD4K and RED 1MX with 4.5K Raw. In other words, none of the above is really blowing my mind. And still I went for the EOS-R. It wasn't in some naive believe that the Canon will have the most detailed video at 400% in some weird multi cam production.
All I know is that right in front of me on my desk sits a Panasonic G85, a Fuji X-H1 and an EOS-R. I have native and adapted glass plus speedboosters for the two crop cameras. Only adapted EF glass for the EOS-R. I have only a few hours of experience with the Canon but have shot several gigs with the other two.
On today's agenda is a video shoot. No stills, video only. Docu style with lots of handheld. There will be some interviews both "sitting down" and with a lav in action. A lot of fast action and rather large locations. The finished video will be shown at an award show on the big screen in front of a couple of hundred people and of course online.
I'm bringing the Canon. No question about it. Because believe it or not, it actually offers things that the others don't.
And it does it so well that I don't care about the risk of someone hacking the event and showing a similar video shot with a RED Epic side by side and then zooming in 400%
(The X-H1 tags a long as backup and in case I feel the need for some 100fps instead of just 50.)

Ah the EU...no solution that they can't create a problem for. Never mind though, when it all goes to shit they'll find a way to blame the Russian bots.

tweak reacted to IronFilm in Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
They should just fire half the people in the pro division. They're causing so much problems!
They're the main reason we for instance don't see a Panasonic EVA1 MFT ? Even though that would be completely logical to do!

tweak reacted to Nikkor in Panasonic S1R To Shoot Raw
Aha, so Magic Lantern Raw is not Raw, right? Raw simply is non-debayered data. There are many ways to reduce pixel count without debayering. When a camera oversamples, it debayers the whole image and then scales it down, but if a camera pixel bins, then it reduces the pixels before debayering, if you take that data you will get raw with reduced resolution from the whole sensor.

Ebrahim sent me the new ML firmware for EOS-R. It shoots 4k RAW with NO rolling shutter due to new programming!! PLease PM me to send western union as payment, I will then send files

@Andrew Reid I wish you could convince the guys at Magic Lantern to do something for the Panasonic Cameras too. Maybe any super compressed RAW like BRAW, or some 10-bit codec on cameras apart from the GH line but with more dynamic range than the VLog (which isn't really pushing it enough).
I wonder if Cineform can be installed on Panasonic Cameras since it claims to be Open Source now. Also the compression ratio is huge, going all the way till10:1 and possibly Beyond ("10:1 and 4:1 are typical, greater ranges are possible"). Also the range of codecs that can be encoded in the 10-bit wrapper is amazing (including a 16-bit 4-2-2 one).
Maybe that will help push up the curiosity for Panasonic Cameras like the GH2 hack did, at its peak.
PS: A certain middle eastern connoisseur and master of technology (and of financial sleight of hand of the most ingenious type) seems to be looking forward the Canon R ML Hack ???

Tito didn't invent this, it's been talked about on here quite some times previously. But good he made a video to let people know!

tweak reacted to Django in Top 6 videos on EOS R with combined 2 million views and not a single mention of the rolling shutter in 4K
DPreview (Jordan Drake aside), Kai (without Lok), Tony & Chelsea, Fro etc.. are all general photography based channels. They don't really know/care about video stuff , beyond the basics..
The few video channels that exist are either biased to a system, or sponsored by camera stores / manufacturers (ie shills).
Not many independant, cross platform reviewers out there..aside from Andrew.
I thought his review of EOS R was rather balanced, was expecting him to just rip it to shreds honestly. But he gave it some credit where it was due.
..and indeed pointed out it's giant flaws for video, rightfully so. i wanna hear the good & the bad in a review. not just one side & not just the obvious stuff.
RS is a serious issue. Bigger issue then the crop factor imo. I'm only using 4K on EOS R for locked tripod shots, but if it weren't the case.. it would be basically unusable.
Anyways let's all take a deep breath, we're all in here with a common passion & these gear wars are getting out of hand..

"Attack" is used so often on the internet it's become an attack just to have a different opinion to somebody.
Indeed it's not an attack on any YouTuber on that list just to point out they failed and have a responsibility. In my understanding of the language, an attack is when you beat someone up in a bar, for example. I have not yet beat Kai Wong up in a bar.

tweak got a reaction from IronFilm in ZCam E2 4k footage in the wild, including ungraded and 120fps
Some of the other tests on their FB page look promising for the price IMO. Test them for yourself and see what the files are like. Lots of information in the shadows, much better DR than Panasonic IMO. Keen to see how a Raw output would perform.
People blowing off a camera because one clip/s look bad is pretty funny IMO. I could find you thousands of bad clips shot with similar spec cameras... I guess that means they suck as well .
