varicam reacted to JLemos in Interview with Panasonic - raw HDMI output may be coming to future GH4 firmware plus anamorphic aspect ratios in firmware V2.0
Aside from the anamorphic goodness...
The camera shoots at 96fps, so there's many frames per second to spare, could it be hard to them to make an HDR mode like the one on Magic Lantern but with the final file made on camera?
This would be great and a stand point over A7S.

you are doing something wrong if that is the image you are getting out of the gh4

varicam got a reaction from johnnymossville in Slashcam test reveals Sony A7S 1080/60p softer than 24p mode
If the Sony could record for 90 minutes straight, it would be my first choice for archiving lectures and concerts. For now, the GH4 will do fine.

Looks like the a7T will be a perfect camera. :)

varicam got a reaction from MarioVGreen in New Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 to shoot 4K
Why does the video say it is the world's first in 4K video recording? And OIS except in 4K video? That is a bit disappointing.

All companies should study the owl's head behaviour to build an efficient stabilization system

varicam reacted to jcs in GH4 DR on external 10 bit 4.2.2?
Right, for $6K one could get the 4K URSA with Super-35mm sensor, global shutter, pro-audio, and 12-stops DR:
Looks pretty good! (video from 4K Production camera- would expect URSA to be the same or better).

varicam got a reaction from Dan Wake in Will the phantom power dry the Zoom H4n/H6 power in only 15 minutes?
If you go to gearslutz.com, you can find posts about the H6 lasting a few hours with phantom power on. Of course, how long it lasts depends on the microphone. Most mics that are built for DSLR use should sip power at a reasonable rate.

Do you have a smartphone with a decent camera? That might work too.

varicam reacted to Julian in Panasonic LX8 with 4K video - $899?
According to Photorumors:
http://photorumors.com/2014/06/08/the-new-panasonic-lx8-camera-will-have-4k-video-and-900-price-tag/
The Panasonic LX8 will be the successor of the LX7. Expected half of july (the LX camera's have had a tight 2 year renewal schedule). It will be a contender for the RX100 III and probably have a bigger sensor than the 1/1.7-inch chip in the LX7. Not sure which size.
New rumor: 4K video and $899 price tag.
I'd say - Why not? smartphones are able to shoot 4K... so a high end compact shouldn't have trouble with it. Sony's 1 inch sensor also does 4K in the AX100.
Awesomesauce! Nice B-cam for the GH4 ;)

varicam got a reaction from etidona in GH4 crash problem
Happened to me once. Had to take out battery. Turning the camera to off couldn't turn it off. Very annoying.

Maybe there will be a revival of silent film!

Don't upload to Vimeo. Just hand over the video in an SD card or USB stick and let the couple worry about the copyrights.

Hopefully they will actually release an EF to MFT version, unlike Metabones.

I recommend turning off iTunes and listening to Bandcamp for a while, then if you like something for your own personal artistic freedom of use, get in touch directly with the artist via their Twitter or Facebook page.

varicam got a reaction from sunyata in Vimeo to automatically mute videos with 'unlicensed' soundtracks
Musicians and writers often do get ripped off by publishers. That's why more and more of them are getting into self-publishing.

Well, if you guys are serious about supporting artists, don't shed a tear for the RIAA and the music industry, support websites like "bandcamp.com" where artists can sell directly to you. They aren't losing money because of Vimeo, that's just free promotion, they're losing money because of offshore file upload websites and the music blogs that link to them.
If I can, I like to buy directly from the artists, I try to do that at live events for example (they sell cd's at live shows because they actually see the money). It's not just free downloads that are stealing from musicians, it's the labels and their managers too.

If I could shoot like that, I'll be happy for quite a while.
