The Codec defintely didn't break up, the colorgrading did!

    Look at my example:

The point is I don't think we're seeing anything that's the result of an in-camera breakdown of the codec. This looks entirely normal for anything that's showing a slightly different coloration as the result of a difference in lighting caused by shadows or reflections.

It's basically adding lots of saturation, then contrast using curves (find a proper black value using the waveform!), shifting the hues (bright green a bit to yellow, yellow a bit to orange, orange slightly to red, red a bit to magenta), desaturating shadows and highlights, desaturating bright oranges (helps for skintones as well), pushing gray or low saturation mid and dark tones (not black though, leave dark skin color the way it is!) to teal a bit, adding a bit of grain.

    That's it basically. :D

I second that. But @64mulford,  you must put deezid at @deezid,  so he can recognize our plead much better!
I reposted deezids Americanah trailer in the GX85 thread to show among other posters, how awesome Panasonic Lumix material can look.
Can´t wait to see Andrew´s footage with this powerhouse the GH5 must be. 400mbps will offer perfect quality
for indy and documentary shooters, if GH5 has the same high standard of quality control/mangagement, which the
    production of the GH4 had.

Nice reel, deezid! I was trying to leave names out of it , but yes he wasn't thrilled with his first hands on. He and Mac seem to really favor the X-T20. I agree that Fuji has nice color.
I'd like to get out of the NX1 soon.
    The prerequisites for me:
    1. 10 bit. I always said I'd buy the first 10 bit DSLR.
    2. Get into currently produced camera line - the NX1 was / is niche and makes no sense investing more money into it. I need some autofocusing lenses for gimbal work and the odd sporting event.

I actually trust Kholi as well, but not this time. Comparing V-Log to S-Log on the A7sII? C'mon...
If it is nearly as good as V-Log on the GH4 it'll put the A7sII to shame in terms of color science.

Watch my showreel to see what I mean:
    Almost 99% internal V-Log!

And yes, I've been using the a7sII quite a lot, always struggeling with the color, even using different profiles and combinations (such as Cine4, Slog2/3 SGamut 3.cine/3/2 etc). On the GH4 I just hit the portrait profile with:
    Contrast 0
    Sharpening -5
    NR -5
    Saturation -2
    Hue 1

And it looks almost identical to the color corrected RAW output of the FS5...

Shot with it yesterday and it's impressive. Colour is much better, you can tell it is 4:2:2 and 10bit. You've all been looking at badly graded V-LOG on YouTube at tiny bitrates compressed to 8bit 4:2:0.
The only downside of the 10bit files is they are hard to edit natively.
I can see a lot of transcoding to ProRes ahead.
ProRes would have been a much more suitable codec than H.264 on a camera with the GH5's performance... But the quality is there in spades. Amazing saturation and realism, super smooth feel to the files.
I'm just shooting on Standard BTW.

    Thanks for calling me close-minded.
I actually should be glad that almost nobody cares about producing filmic/organic looking video and should stop giving away any information how to do so.
People don't understand why they like filmic looking footage, but they pay when they see something not looking like being made with a smartphone, lol.

-6 would be nice actually, since -5 still shows slight hints of oversharpening halos (no dealbreaker here, optical filters will take care of the rest). Not quite RED/ARRI/BM/SONY etc... like, but a bit better than the GH4 already.

Because it is perceived as detail. Seeing 4k on a big screen is still a novelty. People are fascinated by it, like under a spell, or hypnotized. The sharpened image makes for a hyper real world, where there is more contrast then in the real world, rendering everything easier to recognise. Having this super vision may give the viewer an elevated sense of security and control.
People see contrast. More contrast makes discerning easy.
Only the smarter people recognise subtle nuance and detail. Lower IQ people only recognise easy to identify, contrasty, things.
Thank you for the question, it moved me to think

Maybe we start seeing some Videos without this ridiculous oversharpening from now on.

    Nah... :D
I really don't get why people love this oversharpened videolook, even Emmanuel Pampuri does (discussed with him on this topic)...
It affects fine detail and motion cadence in a very bad way as well, but nobody cares...

Indeed. Quick summary of that part of the review:
With sharpening and NR on minimum they are happy with the image quality. They remark o how good the 60p 4k looks, only slight degradation which they think is the difference between 8bit and 10bit due to the white and black points.
They think the 2k mode (I guess 1080p, not actually 2k?) is really good and scales remarkably well with no artifacts (listen up Sony, stop giving us super sucky 1080p).
Above 60fps there's no full sensor read out anymore, which is not a real surprise. They see two steps in quality, one up to 75fps and then another up to 180fps. There is line skipping so they get moire and aliasing but they still believe it is usable in reality. There is a demo video embedded where they mixed 4k and high frame rates.
In the VariableFramerateSettings for slowmo, they camera reads from the full sensor width like in photo mode.
The congratulate the really low rolling shutter. Panasonic says 15ms and they think it is accurate.
    Base ISO is 400.
LowLight behaviour is okish. It's good up to 1600, 3200 is acceptable and 6400 is worse. Noise Reduction can't be completely deactivated and they muse if 150 Mbit/s is still not sufficient in 10bit high iso. I guess we'll see if there's improvement when the 400 Mbit/s firmware drops.

Well, there's actually nothing coming close to color rendition compared to Fuji in the consumer area. Even Canon is way worse in terms of color reproduction "from what I've seen". Let's not talk about the sharpening algorithm being using on the X-T2, which seems to be out of this world, much better than the GH5 which looks electronical.
The GH5 seems somewhere between Canon and Sony while being closer to Canon.
Dynamic range on the Fuji X-T2 should be a tad better using F-Log vs. V-log but not by 2 stops, especially not by regarding the comparison above from C5D.

Coming back to the topic: The GH5 seems to show similar encoding artifacts as the GH4, even recording in 10 Bit internally. Only way to fix these is to record externally atm.
