man... thank you so much for saying that
my whole idea was ~dark and low contrast, really saturated~ and my 7GB prores render looks GREAT...! but it gets  m u r d e r e d  on youtube. this is not the best quality upload due to this file in particular, but i did tests and......... its rough
on mobile its exponentially worse. 1080p on the youtube app is not equal to 1080p desktop, and its PARTICULARLY destructive to all the ~pretty dark shots~ that i actually succeeded in making, *not that you can tell* from this upload~! tbh that was sooo frustrating to me, thats a big part of why i was like "i haveta take a lil break from this" ?
anyway, thats amazin that you totally saw what i was goin for thru it all... makes my day! tysm
edit: see, lookit this low res png screen grab on tumblr... STILL SOOOoooooo much better smh. i mean the ridiculous banding isnt there u kno

I also really like the "dark" shots (like 1.44). We're always talking about dynamic range, and IQ etc etc, but sometimes it's all in the shadows. In the murky bits. Makes you look harder.
    Good stuff.

Just came across this post from Hal Hartley on Instagram. He's updating a bunch of his old films, including Surviving Desire. He included a screen shot of updating the colour of Surviving Desire on DaVinci Resolve. Of course, we know filmmakers all over the world use this stuff. Still, it's cool. And if you haven't seen any of Hartley's films, do yourself a favour.

What are Jasper's views on the Blackmagic Pocket 4K? Does Jasper think the superior image from BM beats the functionality of the Panasonic mirrorless options?

I keep going to upgrade my GH3, but never do. It has been dropped, dragged along the footpath, rained on. Rubbery bits have fallen off and I’ve gaffer taped them back on, and still the damn thing keeps working for me. In terms of income vs camera cost ratio, I can’t complain. The thing is bullet proof. I’ve  been looking at all the new releases, but 2nd hand GH3s are so cheap... 1080p is all I need, and that thing paired with my voigtlander 25mm is just heaven.
I also have a GX85. Yeah, it’s okay, but I just know it won’t be around as long as the GH3.

Finally finally, after an initial failed attempted, I have purchased and got a SLR Magic 8mm f4 lens:

Will be a fantastic lens I'm sure for my future vlogs, will mean it is easier for me to keep everything in frame even when handheld filming myself and trying to concentrate also on speaking etc

It’s a bizarre little lens. Cheap any way you look at it. I’ve been using it on the GX85, makes the whole combo tiny. And I like the image I get. Not fast, but at f4 it’s not for low light stuff anyway. There seems to be no decent review out there that I can find, not from the usual suspects anyway. Which is a shame, because for a low budget kit this lens seems a no brainer.

It's 2nd hand. And according the rating, not a very good one at that:
So, you snagged a superfair price still, considering you're paying only a small premium over the 2nd hand one but getting a brand spanking new one free of issues.

Just arrived in the country today! Hopefully I'll get it soon.
I'll probably start then using my BMPCC more then for my vlogs. Sometimes I really hate the look from my Samsung S7, and the iPod Touch is even worse!

Came in here to share this actually. hahaha

This is how I grabbed my copy, from a b&h sale in June.
Definitely worth it IMO. I actually really like it on the Pocket Camera because it's tiny and is around 24mm FOV on there.

And the SLR magic 8mm is on sale at B and H right now. $129. I’ve read mixed reviews but at that price I’ve just grabbed one.

Jeremiah from artlist responds pretty quickly to email queries. I did cheekily suggest to him that beta adopters should be immune to any subscription price hike. I don't think he liked that idea.

Why does no one take advantage of it? I can only speak for myself and say that I might take advantage of the current "Creativity and Ideas" section at some point, but my suggestion was for something more structured, more "curated". Which I would definitely be interested in. Why do people keep things so secret? Who knows, keeping your projects secret is an antiquated idea. Opening up your process, engaging in dialogue, viewing your potential audience as "co-creators" of the final work is the way forward.

Like I said in an earlier post my background is in theatre. We struggle with similar questions. Here's a link to a current project. It's titled Awkward Conversation, and it's a conversation about this very topic with our local audience in Brisbane, Australia.
    http://www.pozible.com/project/181384

In any case Andrew Reid has positioned his website in a unique position. It's much more than what Phillip Bloom offers and it's not a free for all (as much as I read it) like No Film School.

Also, as a response to Blanche's original post, I suspect it's got many people making stuff. My suggestion was not for a general discussion on random subjects, but for those projects inspired and motivated by what they have learnt on eos hd to actively engage with the websites readers in a structured and meaningful way.
