Juank reacted to Emanuel in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
I did a small edit in my post only to point out I don't necessarily think this "reviewer" has an agenda, as follows his disclaimer in one of his messages BTW. Lots of interests command internet marketing, though. That's for sure! He is one of many others.
Even though, his first test was pretty incomplete and very distracted. This 2nd one as a reply to the lack of depth of the other one, has 30 minutes, so another ballpark. But, yes, he has forgotten to test a more complete approach using a more capable full technique any experienced shooter will use. Not by definition mandatory manual focus, as a lot of other users usually infer as dichotomy to AF. There are other AF modes such as tap to focus he simply didn't talk about. Or the way we can lock AF up just in order to prevent hunting, as for instance.
All this is part of the labor and these AF tests drive me nuts for their bewildering simplicity. I don't have anything against thousands of YT followers and they surely don't bother me at all, on the contrary, they led me to demand more from their input being one of them.

Juank reacted to OliKMIA in Canon 5D mkIV Crop Factor Reduction
Doesn't he have a 1Dx2 already ? I could totally see Canon not bringing C-Log and better codec to the 1Dx2 to force owners to get a 5D4...
This is the bare minimum for a flagship camera in 2015-2016. Now the standard are 4k60 with no crop, IBIS and potentially 10bits. Even if this upgrade is real, Canon is still lagging far behind and it's not going to look any better with the next A7S & R camera.

Juank reacted to OliKMIA in Canon 5D mkIV Crop Factor Reduction
If this is true, he 5Dmk4 sales must be really bad or Canon starts to realize how outdated their new "flagship" is to propose these emergency fixes. Either way this is pathetic and Canon deserves it. A pig with lipstick is still a pig, the 5D4 doesn't have the appropriate hardware to compete with the Panasonic and Sony. I'm certainly not going to cancel my GH5 and I'm looking forward for the Sony A7S3. Too late Canon.

Juank reacted to Ken Ross in Tips and tricks for new Panasonic GH5 owners
The point is I don't think we're seeing anything that's the result of an in-camera breakdown of the codec. This looks entirely normal for anything that's showing a slightly different coloration as the result of a difference in lighting caused by shadows or reflections.
-
Juank reacted to Ken Ross in Tips and tricks for new Panasonic GH5 owners
How is that color bleed?
Why do some magnify an image beyond what anyone would watch, see changes in a color because of either reflections or some part of the image is in shadows, and then blame it on the camera. Does anyone really think that their customers would actually notice this and blame it on the videographer or camera?
I guess never having been a pixel peeper, I just don't think that way. If the image looks good the way I'd normally view it, I'm good to go. If the image begins to break down, magnifying it 3-5X greater or more than I'd ever view it, I really couldn't care less.
There are times I think some just look for issues, real or imagined.

Hey Jon,
For non-looping tracks, what I'd suggest you do is choose 2 tracks and cross fade from one to the other. For looping tracks, simply put them end to end, but make sure there is no gap between them. I hope that helps. Feel free to email me anytime if you need more help. :-)
In the meantime...
I just opened a new sound effects page:
http://soundimage.org/sfx-household/
Also, if anyone is into game development (or knows someone who is) I've also opened a chiptunes page and uploaded a bunch of tracks to get it started.

Have a great week!

Juank reacted to Kisaha in Anyone not that excited about the GH5?
Even for the people not buying this camera (like me), I can't see how NOT to be excited.
It is the first time a manufacturer gives so much, for so little money, on a perfect operational and reliable camera body, covering most of the competition, and then add some.
It is an exciting release, but people tend to forget, that GH4 was exciting back in the day too, I am a bit old, and my memory works linear, so I clearly remember that - again- Panasonic pushed the limits a little bit further with the GH4, as exactly does with the GH5 now.
Well done Pana, but not for me, yet..
we will see how it goes the next few months, what others have to say (both real world reviews and other manufacturers), the firmware updates, and maybe, down in the road, most of us we will HAVE to own one!

Juank reacted to Jimmy in A7SIII (and why you should wait before buying GH5)
The question is .... what should we wait for once the a7S iii is announced?

Juank reacted to Arikhan in A7SIII (and why you should wait before buying GH5)
@kidzrevil
Not as childish as the claim "pros don't need AF"...No offense please...
As childish as the old style photographers claiming NOWADAYS the same and not wanting to accept facts and reality...Living in the 60s can make some fun, but I'm wondering why this kind of people doesn't use horses & carriages but cars...
In many situations you will never be able to focus manually like a reliable and powerful AF...And still, there are many situations, when you want and have to control your focus speed and process manually...There is no conflict between focusing manually / or per AF, the two systems are a complement to each other. But oviously not for nostalgic know-it-alls...
@Chrad
They even don't need to make it "inexpensive"...Spending 4.500 - 5.500 bucks for a capable (portable) FF with reliable AF (like A6500), 60fps (4K), clean 1080p 4.2.2 10bit up to 100/120fps, very good low light skills and a pleasant colour science OOC isn't too much nowadays.

Juank reacted to mercer in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
There are different tastes and that's why a lot of this is subjective. Some people like the realistic video look. I tend to like a more "cinematic" look, but I don't think this is subjective... that is the nicest looking GH5 footage I have seen and if you don't like it, you may just be better off with a G85, because 10bit VLog will not add anything for you.

Juank reacted to mercer in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
At the risk of sounding like a total dick here and I of all people have no right to, but I just don't get some people on this forum. I know most things are subjective, but that Kholi footage is probably the nicest GH5 footage I have seen and people complain about it?!
WTF?!

Juank reacted to Bizz in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
A guy is posting a GH5 video as a test so all of us can see what can be achieved with the camera (plus a very good lens) and the first thing that cross the mind of some ppl is that auto focus is bad (as far as i can tell the lens is manual focus) and the style is not so good (jerky). Ok then...

Juank reacted to Zak Forsman in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
from Kholi Hicks...
"GH5 w V-Log
UHD out to BMD 4K ASSIST/ProRes HQ (Does not take the DCI 4K signal)
V-Log to Comet Color LUT (early early stages, converted from my B-Side LUT for Blackmagic's Ursa Mini 4.6K/Pro)
Sony Cinealta 4K 35 and 25mm (In that order) w/HotRod Cameras PL mount
NiSi IR ND 1.8
Early thoughts: Reminds me of the A7SII, honestly. Not that far off, nearly same color and aesthetic, less rolling shutter of course. Pana may beat out the A7SII for base color, though.
Tell your favorite LUT builder to jump on building some, not a huge fan of what comes out of the camera stock. Alexa to Rec709 doesn't look bad as a starting point, still needs a fair amount of massaging IMO.
Don't have much time with it, going to mess with CineV and acquire some more V-Log footage to tune the Comet Color port."

Ha, have you found a booboo? Here's the page from the basic manual that comes in the box.

Juank reacted to Evan Fotis Georgoulakis in Panasonic GH5 day zero
A quick question:
In 6K 4:3 mode, using normal lens (non anamorphic) will the GH5 produce normal (1:1) aspect ratio, usable image or a squeezed one?
I am asking, because if it can produce a 4:3 video image like SD cameras did-but at 6K resolution- it would theoretically be ideal for shooting video in portrait mode, for better green screen keying results, instead of the current 16:9 landscape shooting which throws away more than half of the captured image left and right due to the relatively short vertical size.

Juank reacted to buggz in GH5 tips tricks and questions only
Anamorphic desqueeze in the camera display? Is this an option? I would like this.

Juank reacted to Cinegain in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
The 95MB/s* seems to classify as V30 (so max. sustained 30MB/s, 150Mbit/s should be a little less than 20MB/s, so I imagine that's fine; *read, 90MB/s write). More about speed classes, as you've probably seen, here: https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/choices/speed_class/index.html . Haven't seen any official V60 cards yet (required for GH5 w/ firmware update; 400MBit/s - 50MB/s, so V60), but I have V90 and those would roughly be the ones with spec: R280/W250. The Panasonic and Delkin ones, don't come cheap though. If 90 equals 30 and 250 equals 90, you're looking at about a factor 3x. So, 60x3=180 (also 90+30=120/2=60 and 250+90=340/2=170). That's the exact writespeed of the 'Transcend Ultimate SDXC 64GB, UHS-II U3/Class 10'. With all that said, draw your own conclusions and then check cards availlable and pricing right here.

It's the same in Dublin - stores are getting 2 kits only on release with more to follow whenever. If you're not top of the pre-orde queue you're going to be waiting a little bit.
In other news, I'm very much liking the possibilities of Rec709L, a picture profile we've heard very little about to date:

Juank reacted to jcs in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
Interesting end result- kind of reminded me of a CGI scene (as a cool effect). Perhaps too much grain/noise was removed; tried adding some back and tweaked the color a bit. Specular on lip was oversharp/digital, fixed. I dig the super color of the 60's... It's harder to make a super-saturated image look good if the color science is off. This looks decent full size:

Juank reacted to Ken Ross in Panasonic GH5 starts shipping in 3 days. How's the 180fps slow-mo quality?
4 hours ago, Miklos Nemeth said:
"As in the original article A. Reid writes "Don’t expect much in the way from AF in video mode. Dual Pixel AF it is not." This is definitely a show-stopper in 2017 for many of us. Sony/Canon has the technology for three years now, and it works brilliantly. No way I am going back to "stone age" just because Panasonic is not willing to embrace usable video AF. This is not a professional camera, guys, the GH5 is just enthusiast/consumer gear. No usable video AF, no magnification while recording? What the hell Panasonic is thinking. Definitely, I'll give it a try, but I am not really willing to pay 2000EUR for no AF videocamera, no way."
Well I think stating the camera has 'no usable video AF' and it's a 'no AF videocamera' is a whole lot of hyperbole. Why do I say that? I've used a G85 for a while now and its AF is at least a step below the GH5's and yet it's quite usable. Is it as good as the A7Rii or A6300 I've used? No. Is it usable? Most definitely. As with most other aspects of a camera, you need to learn a feature's strengths & weaknesses. The AF is no different.
