  1. M43 needs something like that organic sensor that was mentioned years ago, something that will provide a dramatic improvement in dynamic range and iso. Not to say today's m43 sensors aren't decent, but when compared to the latest larger sensors, they're certainly lacking. Still, cameras are more than just a sensor and m43 is capable of stunning results.

  2. They need to throw everything they can in the GH5- make it as jaw dropping as possible. Most of the profits seem to be at the high end. For companies to survive, I think they need to offer something that appeals to those who are willing to spend the big bucks.

In March 2015 - I already had the Pocket - I saw this on Vimeo (shot with BMCC and BMPCC):

    Just as an example.

Yes, and I have seen people 'shitting'. Right now there is a discussion between Brawley and some professor Kino, like a fight of Jaeger vs. Kaiju. Entertaining though these arguments are (for a while), they don't help much. With video I rather trust my eyes. If what I see pleases me, that's all I need to know. Then I read reports on the problems and how they can be solved.

This is just ridiculous in terms of quality. That's the thing about BM, they made it possible for people with not a lot of money to capture amazing footage. Still requires a lot of knowhow of course, but this is really inspiring.

If Panasonic doesn't put IBIS in the GH5, a lot of people will be very mad about it. If the GX85 has it and it can record 30min of 4K, I don't see why the GH5 wouldn't. There should be at least the option to get no time limit in 4K without IBIS and 30min with IBIS if that's the case.

I will be stunned if it doesn't have IBIS.

  5. I suspect most people would much rather have a constant aperture and have it be something like f2.8 24-200. 2 lousy stops are huge, even with a 1" sensor. I do give you credit for being the first positive review of the camera I saw, when it seemed like everyone else was slamming it.

Cool, an XLR is very welcomed imo. Another button or two would have been lovely though. And a stronger ND.
The lens was always alraight imo so no prob there.

No I haven't. But I was super impressed and totally happy with the old firmwares iso performance.

Come on Mattias, you're just trolling. :) You know that slow lens tended to be the first complaint people mentioned with it. Given how big it is, they should have done something like a constant f2.8. There is no way you're gonna convince me that wasn't possible. It was a joke that Canon constantly hyped that lens.

You know what I think is happening?

What I think is happening is that... people are slowly adopting the Sony cams, simply for its features... once they get it they don't like the colors or skin tones. But they've still adopted it and said "screw it..." getting used to those colors. I see a major shift coming... such that people start getting used to Sony colors and saying... thats what I want.

Here is to hoping that Canon fails... and starts saying "what the fuck did we do?"

Starts downsizing and starts firing that whole marketing and research department.

There might be some truth to this. Recently I've been looking at a ton of Sony footage and actually prefer the colors. All this talk about the awful Sony colors and skin tones, I no longer agree. I don't know if Sony has improved or I've just been conditioned to accept it.

I hope they don't cut the zoom range in half. Not Worth it for the extra stops.

You were the first positive review I can recall seeing for it.

Does anyone know if Canon has indicated that the XC15 rumours might be true? And what differences it might have to the XC10?

3 stage ND filter, 24-100 f1.8-4 with the same stabilisation and better lowlight and I'm in ;)

If they reduce the lens to 24-100, surely they can do better than 1.8-4. I would guess they should be able to do something like a constant f2. The G7x is 24-100 and is 1.8-2.8 and the lens is tiny compared to the xc10.

  10. I wish they'd just focus on developing a killer new model of the BMPCC. To me, it looks like they've wasted a ton of time and money developing all these niche cameras when the one camera they have that sold reasonably well and has broad appeal is in dire need of a hardware update. One or two cameras for BM is more than enough. Keep it simple. They have spent a fortune developing all these other cameras.  Just focus on improving the 4.6 and the BMPCC.

422 10 bits en interne et raw en externe avec atomos ??????

I don't speak French but raw to an atomos? Are we getting greedy? The GH5 would be back on top in terms of cameras with this form factor. I bet they will have improved upon the IBIS as well. Yes, I'm definitely getting greedy.

  12. Look at this list of releases for 1979 and how many great/serious films are on it:

    The Deer Hunter

    Time After Time

    Norma Rae

    The China Syndrome

    Manhattan

    Alien

    The In-Laws

    Apocalypse Now

    The Onion Field

Being There (perhaps the second greatest Peter Sellers film)

    Kramer vs Kramer

    The Great Santini

I mean, even many of the popcorn flicks were legitimately great films that would stick with you long after the movie was over. Now? I just can't relate to the vast majority of what the studios are putting out.

It's not so much about having modest or high expectations, I'm just being realistic about Panasonic and how they are.

What I expect is the minimum Panasonic should do, the second part is what they should do if they actually want to step up their game against Sony. The Wishlist is just something they could do and people would appreciate but I just doubt Panasonic would be bold enough to pull that off, unfortunately.

I'm hoping the delay in announcing a replacement, if that rumor is true, is because they're adding some features that will turn heads and take back a bit of the thunder Sony seems to have stolen.

I've taken the liberty of using this extract from an article in Photography Life, he explains it a lot better than I could ...

I simply replaced sensor dimensions, which would be in millimetres i.e. 24x36 for FF with 4480x6720 and xx x yy for 2160 x 4096.

    https://photographylife.com/what-is-crop-factor
    "How Crop Factor is Calculated
The math to derive the crop factor is quite simple. Knowing the physical size of the sensor, you first calculate the diagonal using Pythagorean Theorem (a² + b² = c²), then divide the number by the diagonal of the crop sensor."

I personally don't have any problem if it is 1.64, all the better, since i've already ordered it, but using the diagonals of the FF sensor and the diagonal of the 4K crop it's 1.74.

News Shooter says the crop is 1.74 in the title of their article.

  14. I like Rock, though I don't watch his movies. But those movies are what the masses want to see. There have always been dumb studio movies, but it seems like most major releases are geared towards the Comic Con crowd now. If you look at a list of major releases from like 1978 or 1979, it's shocking how many more serious movies geared towards intelligent adults there tended to be. Movies have always been commercial endeavors, but they weren't always so overwhelmingly mindless. And yes, I know there are are still some quality major studio films and plenty of serious indy films, and the studios have always put out some mindless fare. That doesn't disprove my point. I'm solely talking about what the overall lineup of films the major studios are putting out now as opposed to what they used to put out.
