There are some truly beautiful shots in this. Great choice of music. I need to watch again and make note of my favorites.

Good grief, this is just stunning.

The footage is very nice but for me, after watching several videos, the lens doesn't seem to do a good job producing the waterfall bokeh that is what I'm most drawn to. Just about all the footage I've seen seems to be deep focus and when there is some bokeh, it doesn't feel special to me. In no way is this a criticism of the OP and I know there are people who prefer deep focus and like anamorphics for other reasons.

Really beautiful dogs, good looking footage, not a fan of the song. I very much like the vintage look and grading. On their Vimeo page Tiffen has a number of videos showing what look their various filters give. I would consider adding a filter if you want to take away even more from the video look. The handheld nature of the video was not distracting at all. But the song was, at least to me. The footage had a vintage feel, but then you drop some autotuned contemporary pop song over it and it just didn't feel right. But that's just my opinion. Did I mention those are some beautiful dogs? I wouldn't stress too much over the lack of stabilization. Really pretty footage. It has a look that I like.

Laowa is gonna be coming out with a 7.5mm lens for m43. Footage on YouTube. Also, Panasonic will be coming out with a 8mm-18mm f2.8-4. But it will be expensive, gonna have Leica branding. To go wider than 12mm right now there are the 2 Olympus zooms and a Panasonic zoom. The Samyang lens made for mirrorless and some other options which are a bit more niche. I'd wait for the Laowa. They said it will be competitively priced but who knows.

You might want to look at the Sigma 30mm f1.4 instead of the 25mm f1.4. Adorama has the Sigma for $339 and the Panasonic for just under $600. I'd prefer the Sigma. Actually, I'd prefer the 20mm f1.7 to both of them as I prefer that focal length on m43 and you can get that used really cheap.

Yeah, but you don't get the full stabilization. I think it's up to 5 stops with Dual IS 2. I saw some footage and it was very impressive. Not sure if that camera does Dual IS 2 though.

Doesn't that camera provide dual IS with image stabilized lenses? That might be a reason to get the kit lens, for stabilized handheld shots. A few of the Panasonic primes have stabilization. I know the 42.5mm f1.7 does. If it was me I'd rather use it with vintage glass or native m43 glass (where the lenses tend to be much smaller).

He has posted some really nice footage. I'm impressed he's able to get such nice bokeh from 1.5x. And the bokeh in the recent 1.9x footage is ridiculously beautiful imo. Who knows if the lenses will ever happen, especially at a price people could afford. I'm skeptical but also extremely impressed with what he's accomplished and hope he can make it happen. Exciting.

I really hope he can find a manufacturer to partner with and make it happen. Here's the 1.9x footage I was talking about.

I really expected Samyang to enter the budget anamorphic market a long time ago. I even wrote them a heads up email. I am such an influental guy you see, they still haven't given up on signing me with the r&d department..

SLRMagic should work on the quality of their glass a bit more, and for the love of God, please get rid of those baby blue flares.

On a more positive note I am absolutely curious what Forrest Schultz will come up this year. He's been working on his Apollo concept a while now.

Thanks for mentioning Forrest Schultz. I wasn't familiar with him but just read a thread he started a couple years ago on the Blackmagic board. Very interesting. Do you know if he is designing primes or an adapter? He mentioned both. Also, any recent word on cost?

If you can afford to wait I'd wait and see what the new models have. If they don't offer any significant improvements you should be able to get the current models cheaper. My guess is they'll be announced in the next 8 months or so.

Hoping that Mitakon and some of the other Chinese companies realizes there's a lucrative market for these and gives SLR Magic some competition.

Thanks. That Kowa B & H seems to be one of the more desirable lenses. Not only are the popular lenses much more expensive, but I suspect there are far fewer of them available. It's a seller's market.

For those who have been buying anamorphics for years, just wondering if the price has gone up in recent years and by how much. I was just checking out ebay and it looks like even most of the undesirable lenses tend to be priced at around $200. $600 seems to be the going rate for a possibly decent desirable lens, though I guess you never know till you actually have it and can test it. And the really desirable lenses are in that $1,000+ range. Is this how it was 5 years ago?

I saw a chart where it looked like Panasonic is gonna add the Dual IS 2 to all, or at least nearly all, of their stabilized lenses by the end of the year. If the best stabilization the camera can deliver is important to you, might want to look at the stabilized lenses. But many of the nicest lenses don't have stabilization. If you want a three lens kit, what are your ideal focal lengths? I agree with Jon, I'd go with primes and keep it under f2. Are you just looking to use it for video, not stills?

I slightly prefer the look of the 28mm. Just wish it was 1.8.

Dave, you should consider being in front of the camera as well. Funny guy.

I wish Panasonic would come out with a 2x adapter. They could even slap the Leica label on it and sell it for a premium.

If it were me, I'd probably go with m43 but a lot of Canon shooters end up very unhappy when they leave Canon. Only you have a good idea of what's important to you and what direction you'd be happier going in. For me, something like the GX8 replacement with the upcoming Laowa 7.5mm f2, the 20mm Panasonic, the 20mm Mitakon 4.5x macro, and the Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 plus a couple flashes would be all I need. Maybe add the Panasonic 100-400mm if you're into birding. The only reason I'd prefer a hypothetical GX9 over a Pen F is because I've heard the 20mm is not nearly as fast on Olympus bodies compared to the new Panasonic cameras.

I would take a GH5 all day every day over the 6500. Not even close.

You have to put in the actual focal length of the lens for the stabilization to work correctly but since the anamorphic adapter would change the horizontal field of view, would that mess things up?

Perhaps another sign that the EM5iii is around the corner. You can get the 5ii, plus the 12-40mm f2.8 lens, plus a "free" 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 lens for $1,698. Honestly, this does not look like a decent deal to me. If you're getting the 12-40, the 12-50 is one of the last lenses you'd want. They also have the 5ii body only for sale for $999 and a free 12-50mm. That makes more sense. Still, not that great of a deal imo, unless you really want the 12-50. So after typing this up, this looks like a run of the mill deal from Olympus. I can't imagine too many rushing to get the remaining 5ii's for this deal.
