I would wait to se if that happens at NAB. But not to buy the 5Div. Instead to buy a cheap Mark iii. They are going to plummet as soon as the successor is out.

Off topic but how is Gunpowder? Is their hair growing back okay and they're starting to heal?

i have to write down on paper the costs. As for the d750 or 5d mark3 i have to buy also the lenses. For BM i already have good fast primes. Maybe i should wait for the NAb although i don't think it will change the game, not now. Thanks for the link.

I'd wait till the 5D iv is announced/released. Canon Rumors reported a rumor that it will be much more video oriented. If you can hold off and are not in a hurry that would be my advice. Stinks that Olympus doesn't have better video- you've got some nice glass and the 5 axis image stabilization is so useful. If the 5D iv turns out to be nothing special, I'd wait till the Nikon D5 sensor is put in a cheaper full frame body.

Marcel, I don´t have the Tamron but the 24-120/f4 is really versatile. Not for dark situations but for these you have the primes. I have the 50/f1.4 (actually both, the Sigma-Art and the G-Nikkor) and the 85/f1.4D. Using them for stills (Portraits) mostly. If flexibility is needed and for video in normal light I don't hesitate to use the zoom - as a plus it also has VR. It is not the sharperst knife in the drawer but sufficient for most situations.

But you should also know that around easter Tamron comes up with a 85/f1.8 with image stabilization and - depending on your budget - it could also be an interesting lens. I think I´m gonna get that one.

Once they start putting that D5 sensor in other cameras you'll be able to get by with f4 for low light situations. I saw some high iso pics over on Nikon Rumors and it's amazing what that sensor can do.

When ppl say a focal length on a forum like this without mentioning format size, do I assume we are talking about super35mm? I used to work with film and last feature I shot was with Red One when it first came out so I missed all the dslr full frame phase. I get confused now what format is considered standard now especially on video forums. thanks

They shot with the Arri Alexa and while I'm not sure of the crop factor I think it's Super 35 (1.5 when compared to full frame). So a 32mm lens on it is equivalent to a 48mm lens on something like a Canon 5dmkiii.

As I mentioned I'm getting a speed booster for all my Leicas (16, 24, 28, 35, 50, 60, 90, 135) to complement the hyperprime, however you can shoot a whole film with a 35mm equivalent lens; check out the German film 'Victoria' all shot with a 24mm lens on a C300. I checked out the bokeh of the SLR magic and thought it looked really creamy. The Sigma bokeh is very nice too, but I wanted something with a more vintage look to match my 70s era Leicas. Agreed the Sigma is the best compromise.

Heard an interview with the DP for The Witch. He said almost all of the film was shot with a 32mm. They used legit cinema lenses though.

  6. It is weather sealed !! and the lcd screen movements are good enough. The lenses have stabilization, depending on which you buy. The biggest downside is removing the touch autofocus which was on the a5100

My apologies. DP Review says it doesn't have "true" weather sealing. "While the progress in technology is impressive, lack of true weather sealing, a touchscreen, or direct AF point selection with a dedicated joystick or control will continue to be problematic for some." But even if it does, which APS e mount lenses are there which are weather sealed and can take advantage of it?

I see a number of comments on DP Review saying it's not weather sealed. You might want to go and correct them.

  7. Anyone that's complaining about what they can get in a camera for 1K these days is ridiculous.  You. Are. Not. Limited.  The technology that's at your fingertips is more than enough to do whatever you could imagine.  Go use it.

If it works for you great. No reason to be insulting just because some of us dare to point out flaws from our perspective. It doesn't have weather sealing, a variangle screen, nor ibis. Those things matter to me- there's nothing ridiculous about that complaint. It also has what I consider to be a shitty lens lineup when it comes to lenses that are both stabilized and able to take full advantage of the autofocus. I could probably do without the weather sealing, screen, and ibis. Not sure I can tolerate the lens lineup though.

  8. If you want to take advantage of the amazing autofocus it's a disappointing lens lineup. As far as the camera- no weather sealing, no ibis, and no variangle screen.

  9. I would suggest selling it all right now while it still has resale value, and holing up in a cave for the next year. I mean, resale value is what it is all about right, using a tool to shoot your video is just a minor side benefit.

How do some of you people upvote tugela for going on the attack and needlessly acting like a passive-aggressive dickhead to the op? Depressing. Do you regularly go up to strangers and insult them tugela?

  10. I'd get the A7s new, with warranty. Not sure if you're seeing similar prices in the UK: http://photorumors.com/2015/10/22/deal-of-the-day-sony-alpha-a7s-camera-now-850-off-us-warranty/#comments

Also, if it was me I'd just keep shooting with the 5Diii and not bother with the A7s. Seems like a lot of Canon people end up very dissatisfied when they switch. I guess it goes the other way as well but, make sure you prefer the A7s and it's worth the money. With Magic Lantern the 5Diii is capable of gorgeous footage.

  11. Try using autofocus, it might work.

The problem that you'll find with one of these focus through lenses (Iscomorphot S8/x2 or Isco Widescreen 2000) is that you'll have to stop down to be able to focus properly & even then it won't be as sharp as keeping to the adaptors base/optimum/recommended focus point (4m for the S8/x2 & 5m for the WS 2000).

So all of this combined, might not be v.easy for your cameras autofocus to function properly & you might find that your camera ends up in a spiral of death constant search for optimum sharpness. Also, its not really recommended to use autofocus, manual gives you proper control.

But let us know, it'll be interesting to see some results.

Don't have one of these lenses.

  12. I haven't seen anything with the 2x and those cameras. That is a big and heavy lens. I'd think you'd definitely need some kind of support. Would love to see what it could do though. That slow mo in 2x anamorphic would be cool. You probably won't be able to use the wider angles without getting some vignetting. You know, the VM lens by the anamorphic shop might work with it. It would be way cheaper and is 1.5x. It's designed to work with smaller sensor cameras like the RX100. Not too many vids of it out there but there's one on vimeo a guy took of Budapest with the BMPCC that looks pretty good. I think it's only around a couple hundred bucks.
