I do not see red or arri implementing good autofocus. So not sure why blackmagic should. Its a cinema camera, and ibis or autofocus are not on my havetoo shortlist.

The pocket 4k is on place 1 for sure on my list.

Canon are so incredibly stupid, they could have did this 5 years ago and everyone who had invested in their lenses would have bought into this for eternity! At Canon they have one policy, ie "What's the least we have to do?", because that's what they keep dishing up!! I'm over Canon, they're completely useless and unnecessary now!

    Something I have noticed...
Nobody talks about this cam! Panasonic, Fuji, Sony... tons of topics on forums everywhere. Nikon? tumbleweeds.
I suppose everyone interested in video went out and bought a A7R III or GH5 instead!?
Thing is, D850's 4K and stills are better than both of them, and so is the lens line-up.
Yes it lacks IBIS and good video AF.
But so does the Canon 1D C.
The D850 shoots a comparable image, yet without a crop and without MJPEG file sizes.
I can really see myself picking the D850 above the A7R III if it carries on performing like it does... Such a clean codec, so little moire in full frame 4k by comparison to the Sony, and way better colour.

My bread and butter is video, but I've been slowly getting more photography gigs.
I know ideally you'd have 2 cameras for reach, but that's such a massive investment.  Right now I have the GH4, so staying with m43 is preferable.
What in ya'lls opinion is the best photo/video hybrid, assuming most of work is still video? GH5 (not GH5s) seems like the no brainer.

Huh? This statement is just silly and ignores actual facts.
I may be wrong, but wasn't Canon first with 1080p (5D2), first with 4k (1DC) and first with 4k60p (1DX2) in a stills/video hybrid? Plus they created arguably the best AF in the video realm with DPAF. And they have that Cinema line, which by all accounts is pretty successful.
Video is obviously not the driving factor in DSLR/mirrorless camera sales, since Canon's market share almost equals the rest of the camera industry combined. The "Canon is doomed because they can't compete with Sony/Panasonic in the specs/hardware" echo chamber on this site and others is silly. Jesus, how long have people been calling Canon the next Kodak?

DON'T THROW AWAY away your original footage as transcoding is not a perfect copy unless you use one of the uncompressed formats which will create huge amounts of data.If you transcode to a Premier / Resolve friendly format you will be looking at creating a lot of data of multiple times that of your original stock footage. The benefit of working with Proxies / Optimised media is that you can delete it after you have finished the project so it's not long term storage and with your fast CPU it won't take long to generate it again if you need to go back to the project later. Also when you come to do your final render the NLE will use the original camera footage so there won't be any danger of loosing any image quality.

Just bought an AMD Ryzen 1700 CPU @ 3000mhz and a cheap msi am4 mobo + 32gig ddr4. It's the new way cheap 8 core chip and it edits 4k like a charm no more stutters, super smooth. My old i5 was terrible. Anyway if you haven't heard look up the Ryzen CPU's they're a bargain 8 Core (16 threads) and a no brainer esp. for editing needing to upgrade. Even with an 8gig 1070 videocard my i5 2500k didn't like 4k at all. btw I bought the Ryzen 1700 because it's the cheaper cpu and it overclocks easily to 3.9mhz with stock cooler with no fuss.

1610 Points Cinebench R15. I will be editing next week with a new project, more conclusions to come.
    I´m very satisfied.

When this thing was announced it totally blew my mind.
And I have been wanting one ever since the first time I read about it.
If you don’t know what this is all about just think of it as a Speedbooster.
But instead of turning an APS-C into Full Frame it turns a Full Frame into a Medium Format Camera.
And as you may know, medium format in digital is pricy to say the least.

I will have more info and go deeper into this later on, this is just my first impressions.
Opened the box literally just a few hours ago.

Its very sturdy and all metal. It balances well after putting on a hefty lens.

The lens I tested tonight was a 80mm f4 Macro. I have others but wanted to see some closeups to check sharpness.
Its much sharper than I expected. Sharp enough I guess...
Also Ive seen no excessive vignette. Any vignette in the samples are added in post.
    I also added grain.

I had some free time today and so I went into the studio and did some tests. They aren't very proper and they aren't the best in the world...but hopefully this will help someone out there!
I used some of the EOSHD Canon picture profiles for the 1DC part so check that out!
I am by no means a professional colorist. I tried to balance the images best I could in Resolve. You will notice that some shots are a tad blurry....I'm sorry about that. I had continuous autofocus on.
    Here are my findings:
    Canon 1DC:
It's totally still relevant. The fact that this camera came out in 2012 and is competing with the new C300 mkii is incredible.
Official Canon Log: Is great. It grades really nicely and is really clean and natural looking. Totally recommended. The 4k 4:2:2 8bit is much better than the 1080p 4:2:0 of the C100.
EOSHD C-Log: Its good for sure but not as good as built in Canon Log on the 1DC. I need to play more with it but I had some troubles with it.
Other EOSHD profiles: These are fun! I love the Monochrome one a lot!
    C100:
Its done. Too old. Image is soft. Has terrible artifacts. Built in codec is total crap. Get this guy out of here.
Wide DR if handled properly could be a good profile to shoot most things on. Its not too flat so the low bitrate doesn't fall apart as much.
    C300 mkii:
This is the best camera of the three (as it should be) but not by much in relation to 1DC!
Canon Log and Canon Log 2 aren't very good. Canon Log 3 seems just about right as far as nailing the color science. Everything balanced really nicely and looked great.
4K 10Bit really holds together nicely when grading.
I thought 1080p 12bit would be stronger...but I really didn't notice much of a difference between it and the 4k footage.
Slow motion: It's OK. There are other cameras coming out that have better slow motion abilities. To go past 60fps you have to crop in on the sensor by 2x which turns the crop from being 1.4x (Super35) to 2.8! That's more than micro four thirds.

I got to play with the new Olympus E-M1 II today, a pro Micro Four Thirds camera they hope will sell for $2000. It certainly pulls out all the stops to imitate a miniature 1D X Mark II.
This camera does NOT crop the sensor in 4K mode like the GH4. Instead, it over-samples from 5K down to 4K, using the full width of the sensor even with sensor-shift 5 axis stabilisation enabled.
Featuring a 237Mbit codec, the image quality in Cinema 4K mode is outstanding with very little rolling shutter.

    Thanks for the support.
If people don't agree with me on this, then I will at some point also cave in and do a run of big advertisements splashed on the site and regular sponsored articles. But if my readers say they're NOT fine with this, I won't. Simple as that. So speak up for the indies... not many advertising-free places left now on the internet.

I have an 80D.  I love the colors.  Somehow, the Canon hides the dark circles on people's faces.  Panasonic accentuates it.  It's hard to color grade it out when the dark circles are very similar to the color of that person's lips.  How Canon achieves this is really a mystery.  But it's so much more camera to carry around.  The GX85 has spoiled me.
