  1. It is almost kinda funny how slow the rumor sites can be with the news I have noticed.
  2. The features that really distinguish it vs a GH4/DVX200/NX1/A6300/C100/AF100/FS5 (as those are its main "direct" competition), give them a thorough thrashing with your testing and investigations. Such as its streaming option for instance.
  3. Exciting! You're certainly one of the testers online who I value your opinion and results. Looking forward to what you make of the JVC LS300
  4. I hope Video Devices adds FS raw support to their PIX-E5! As especially with the PIX-LR adding in very high quality XLR audio support, you end up with one little neat 5" package. http://nofilmschool.com/2016/03/sound-devices-pix-lr-audio-xlr-accessory-video-devices-e5-e5h-e7
  5. Yup, when it comes to my "big" camera I'm going to try and stay content with my F3 until one day when I can afford an FS7/F5 :-D Even an F5 is getting down to surprisingly affordable secondhand pricing, certainly once I manage to pull off successfully moving into higher end and consistent film work then I'll be able to afford that (especially if the F5 carries on trending downwards with its pricing during the same time period as well :-P ) Although I can't but help to be tempted to upgrade my smaller camera (G6/D5200) to something like the likes of a NX1/D750/G7/A6300/etc... one day ;-)
  6. If you want 444 I suggest a Video Devices PIX-E5 But I'm a cheapskate.... which is why I got the F3, so I'm happy with 10bit 422 for now :-)
  7. You'd have to be loaded to buy a C300 mk2 *and* 1D X mk2! :-o
  8. And yet.... even after a massive price drop, the Sony FS7 is still more appealing.
  9. You're asking if Canon will release a firmware update which will very significantly increase the video capabilities of one of their products..... ?? LOL LOL We all know the answer to that!!
  10. I got one as at the time there was nothing better for its ultra low price But if I was to buy one today then I'd get a Aputure FineHD VS-2 instead for only a little more. Or perhaps even save for the BMD VA.
  11. Yup! Especially as you have nothing wider than 50mm :-o
  12. Is spending another couple of hundred dollars for a monitor like the Aputure FineHD VS-2 in your budget? As that would be my top reason to go for a GH2 over a GH1, for the live HDMI out Otherwise, as you're on an extremely limited budget... get the Panasonic GH1 instead. Then the RJ Lens Turbo plus a few Nikon F mount lenses. But if your budget stretches to a G6 then that is very worthwhile. I have that one as well. The only big bummer if that one is it too lacks Live HDMI out.
  13. Another vote for Nikon D750. Is a no brainer as: A) you used to have a D600 B) you place equal importance on video and photos, and the D750 is the best DSLR for video! (Ignore the overpriced 1D C for a minute... and D5/D500 are not out yet)
  14. The massive limiting factor is write speed. And Canon uses crappy cheap SD card controls that can't write ultra fast. So none of their DSLRs with SDs are worth considering at all. So no, ML will not be able to save them. For a fraction of the cost get the RJ Lens Turbo instead then. If you're not locked into the Canon EF ecosystem.
  15. Is this a real sale on it? :-o They're not even shipping yet!
  16. I did!! :-D Purchased it a few hours ago. I will need to construct by hand however an XLR cable to pass through
  17. If he hasn't bought any lenses yet then buying an NX1 isn't a problem as he can just do the sensible thing and purchase Nikon F mount lenses instead
  18. Hmmmm... maybe I should look into getting a GM1 next. Any draw backs to be aware of?
  19. Get a Nikon D7200 if you want to keep around a DSLR but want decent video
  20. That would mean squeezing a LOT of glass into a very very small space! I somehow doubt if it will happen? But we can hope! ha :-D
  21. Nah, I'm going to choose an F3 over a R1 MX nearly every time for my uses :-D And you can get two or three or even four F3 cameras bodies for one R1 MX!
  22. I feel you... last night I just wanted to buy an AC tool bag for $35, and now I've got $165 sitting in my B&H cart as I debate if I should pull the trigger or not!
  23. Yes, it does make me rather glad I went for the Sony PMW-F3 instead! :-D Not only is it heaps cheaper, I got to have it *NOW* I see the RED Epic M ended up going for US$15K! Waaaaay more than the bidding was at when this thread was started. But that was to be expected. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231865245670 A Sony F5 is *heaps* cheaper than that! Heck, that RED (from a seller with *ZERO* feedback) went for a whole 50% more than what you could buy now an F5 with ease right away. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PMW-F5-CineAlta-4K-PMW-Series-Professional-HD-Camcorder-3033-/151795865954 You could buy an F5 *and* an FS5 for the same price as that! I know which I'd prefer.... the F5 plus extras :-D With a little digging and patience you could get an F5 even cheaper, such as this one which sold recently: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PMW-F5-Camcorder-bundle-WITH-LCD-Color-viewfinder-Cards-Card-reader-case-/291691488274
  24. LED technology *AND* battery technology is moving ahead very fast, so I'd be hopeful within a few years we'd be seeing this situation fixed cantsin. But for now.... yes I agree with you :-/ Kinda strange really, as some would argue it is the *MOST* important area of filmmaking (well... aside from "it is all about the story" yadda yadda), yet it has seen the least amount of technological progress out of all those areas you listed. I think the closest thing we have to "small, affordable, portable" is a set of Dedolights with a bunch of V mount batteries and lighting modifiers. But that is far from cheap, but it is what I want/hope to get soon
