tosvus reacted to Fredrik Lyhne in An adventure into the Panasonic GX85/80 begins - and a look at the Leica Nocticron for Micro Four Thirds
I think it's the same video quality. If I could choose now I would definitely get the new G85 because of the ergonomics, bigger evf, mic jac, articulating screen, better battery life, optional battery grip, Cine D/V, etc. Especially if you don't need/want the GH5. But if size is important the image seems to be the same. I believe frame rates and bit rates are identical as well, but not 100 % sure.
Informative video about the G85:

Thanks Fredrik! Yes, then I am definitely leaning towards the G80/85.

Does not seem interesting at all to me - especially at that price...

Well, I don't - I have tied up a lot of money in m43 so I'd rather pay a nominal fee for a major improvement that comes out 18 month after the camera was released, than not getting the function at all.
I agree free would be better, but this is in all fairness sort of a special interest item that most soccer moms would not even be interested in. I think it is good that they at least use resources on functionality that a relatively few people will take advantage of.
Panasonic should definitely be better at providing more free "mainstream" updates though. Even Olympus outshines Panasonic in this regard (though arguably, Panasonic tends to come out with more complete functionality off the bat, at least for video.). Samsung is the new guy on the block so they would be expected to go above and beyond to dig into the market.

tosvus got a reaction from Emanuel in Huge Olympus update, E-M1 getting 24/25p, E-M5 II get flat profile
Since I'm a hybrid shooter, this is very interesting to me. The EM5ii, is starting to look like a viable option for me now. I just wish they could add at least some time limited 4K, maybe like Panasonic did with LX100. Obviously this would be very useful for filming in certain scenarios, but also a 4K photo mode would be very welcome.

If I had the GH4, I would rather just pay for it to support Panasonic's efforts in improving their firmware. The price is very reasonable.

tosvus reacted to Charles Maring in GH4 V-Log $99
I've been working with VLog and it is definitely the real deal, and at $99 a no brainer. It's a gorgeous flat profile that can be pushed around in grading. This is the first post I've done with VLog. It's a glamour film I shot a day ago with my wife for our style blog. http://www.togetherinstyle.com/stories/sequens-a-fashion-film
ISO's range from 800-1600 with very harsh lighting in a dark room. Also it's at 96fps so there is compression, but still beautiful none the less.
Color wise it's like having a mini Alexa. I simply used the Alexa Log C LUT in Color Finale and faded it to my taste. Nothing else was thrown at it in terms of grading. The two stops dynamic range is very real. Worth every penny.
I'll be doing a lot of work with VLOG from here forward and sharing in posts on Together In Style.

tosvus reacted to TheRenaissanceMan in GH4 V-Log $99
Also, the GH3 shot great stills and video years before the RX10.
-
tosvus reacted to sanveer in GH4 V-Log $99
Even though it isn't hailed as a great stills cameras, GH4 shoots some great stills as well, and therefore is a hybrid in every sense of the word.
One doesn't need a Medium Format Camera to shoot film stills. 16 MP is more than sufficient for that purpose.

tosvus reacted to Andrew Reid in GH4 V-Log $99
Yep fair price.
I guess if people think it's too expensive, they can always go off and buy another 4K internal LOG shooting interchangeable lens cinema camera for $1500. Oh wait...

tosvus reacted to Illya Friedman in GH4 $100 off now
Of course you can save even more if you purchase V-Log with your GH4 at Hot Rod Cameras. If you send Hot Rod Cameras a message on their facebook page they will sell you a GH4 with for $1397 + $49 for the V-Log-L, and they will even install it for you for free.
It's supposed to go live on the site tomorrow.

tosvus reacted to jase in Shooting with a 4K pocket camera - the exceptional Panasonic LX100
Thanks. I went back to square one after having quite a few unsuccessful attempts and remembered and old video from me, which i really liked:
Recipe is as follows:
Standard with -5,-5,-5,-5
Highlight / Shadow 0,0
Iso was Auto, but i guess it was 200-400
Tiffen Ultra Contrast 3 Filter
FilmConvert with GH4 Profile, FJ SuperX 400 emulation was used with 30% grain
Some slight adjustment in the shadows to give it more contrast, thats it. Works out of the box on the GM1 and seems to work out of the box on the LX100.
Will put up some small demo video later.

I thought it already did that? (I don't own one so certainly not sure about that...)

tosvus got a reaction from Shield3 in Metabone 0.71 or 1.75
you take The actual lens focal length * 0.71. If you want to compare it with ff you then multiply by crop factor (I.e 2x for mft)
so your example 35 * 0.71 = 24 on mft. It would then be equivalent to 48 on a ff camera (24x2)

Oh come on, since you have registered your only contributions are asking things to the point where you want people do the work for you. It's ok to be mentally challenged, but I don't think that's your case.

tosvus reacted to Dearborn in Sony movie studio 13 suite dl, 60 amazon
If your just starting out, movie studio 13 platinum can do basic edits on 4k without proxies on my four year old computer, i7-860 2.8ghz, radeon hd 5770 with its gpu acceleration. Premiere elements 13 can't cause of lack of gpu/accel. I own both now.
This is forty less then anywhere else I found for the suite. Don't know how long it will last. Use the key with the download from Sony for the latest version.

Gh4 4k, don't know about nx1 or others.
Stabilizing is 2.5x 1080p & 15x 4k clip length, note crashes on stabilizing some 4k clips. 1080p stabilizing is faster than the premiere pro trial on my system.
I set playback to preview, one quarter and its relativity smooth with some skips, not perfect though.
Has support for external monitor

tosvus reacted to DBounce in A7Rii Overheat attempt//band aid
I'm sorry but the solution of having two bodies is a copout. Before I buy two A7Rii, I think I would just by one FS7 and be done with it.
Truth is I really wanted to like this camera, but for $3200, the overheat issue is unacceptable. Heck for any price the overheat issue is unacceptable. Can we all just stop tiptoeing around this thing and call it what it really is? The word is DEFECTIVE!
There I've said it, the Sony A7Rii is DEFECTIVE. Don't give them a pass on this. It is UNACCEPTABLE. Name one other product in your possession that this would be OK for? Your car? Your computer? Your phone? This camera is DEFECTIVE, and frankly, a recall is in order.

tosvus reacted to fuzzynormal in Why buy?
There's a big difference between "real" cameras and the kind of stuff hobbyists and industrial shooters (like me!) use. I shot 4 different projects this week, and two of them were last minute things, so renting on my level is not really viable. I need something to go out the door with without much lead time.
Also, for the crap I do, I get paid less than it costs to provide craft services to a real shoot. I need a camera that's cheap and easy. That's my end of the pool.
BTW, I shot an actual Super Bowl spot once. With a Canon XH-A1 no less. Actually, it was a CBS media network promo, does that count?

Very true.
Glad to see the positivity. It did take me a very ,very, very long time to make this - and I'm getting really great feedback.
(p.s this particular client will ring you - they want to shoot tomorrow and shoot on a RED Epic Dragon in the highest resolution on a yacht in the dark with 200 semi-naked models, for $500.)

tosvus got a reaction from Oliver Daniel in Sneak peek at my new showreel & website!
Haven't had much time to peruse yet, but your promo video looks great, and I checked out a couple of the music videos. Impressive work! Regarding the website, from the little I have seen, looks sharp, though the rotating video ink logo (presumably used for loading), on my fast internet connection is on just a tad too long. If you could cut it down/find a way to make it load faster if it is a fancy hour glass , that would be great, I'd say somewhere along the lines of 15-20% faster load would be acceptable. (people are impatient these days!

tosvus reacted to Oliver Daniel in Sneak peek at my new showreel & website!
Well... version 2.0 of my new site is now up: Hello hello hello!!
Generally the whole thing has been revamped under the same design.... faster, more compact, re-worded and also all sorts of little tweaks.
Now I'm a zombie. Boo!
(p.s working on a blog section too... 90% there!)

No one is mad at you. At worst jealous. 1DC looks like a gem.
-
tosvus reacted to Shield3 in How I would describe 1dc video quality
Well gosh thanks a lot. I thought I would get ridiculed off the boards for shooting family videos with a 1dc. I'm just trying to get the best footage of my kids while they're young that I can afford. I shot the 5d3 raw for almost 2 years - I'd have stayed with it but I wanted the ability to crop with 4k plus the 12 FPS for sports. Plus of course the non-hacked reliability.
