LPE17. Specs rate the battery life to be 250 pics and 240 pics at zero degrees science. Real world usage might be a little lower. It's the same battery for the smaller cameras and the Rebel, starting with the T6i. Fortunately, there's plenty of aftermarket batteries available. A double charger and 2 batteries can be had for 20 bucks(freedom dollars, not the pounds).
Thanks. I wonder what the video performance will be on that battery, especially at 4k, with the screen on. It would surprise me if you could get longer than an hour on those battery specs.

The only big negative upon further review is the battery. Bummer to see a battery that has just over half the capacity of a Canon LP-E6 on a full frame camera that shoots 4K. I'm guessing you won't get much more than 45-minutes shooting on a battery that size. As someone who owns a lot of Canon LP-E6s and has battery life pretty high up on the priority list, that is a bummer.
I'm waiting for the pro model anyway, but love the RP's size and price. If it had that bigger battery it may have made a good B-Cam to the EOS R on smaller, one-man band shoots - or as a camera to always have on a gimbal for quick shots.
What battery will it be using? A new model?

8 bit out, 4k 120mbps h.264, no C-log.
EOS RP Specifications (5).xlsx
It does have timelapse 4K at up to 29.97/30 fps. 4K video is listed for 24 and 25 fps, don't see 30 fps.
hmmm, no news on the crop?

i can appreciate that! but its like... adapters... etc. who has a 5d4, or 1dxii, or whatever, and a closet full of EF glass, whos going to run out and buy canons first "serious" mirrorless camera? i think its going to be a slow adoption rate lol, but we'll see
btw, how is that EVF? @Django?
does this seem like a result of "normal office fires" to you? asking for a friend
That's a controlled demolition. I have some experience filming these and working with construction crews over the years. That's a textbook demo (when building falls straight into its footprint like that). Looks like professional execution in a dense urban environment.
EOS-RP apparently coming in at $1,299. That's some aggressive pricing from the old farts over at Canon.
Cue up the resident Canon YT fanboys to gush all over this thing (McKinnon, etc)...

Canon 1DX2 is still the only FF camera that can do 4k60p in early 2019. Fact.
Dual Pixel AF is still the most reliable AF for video. Fact.
Sony has been maxing out 8-bit 100mb codecs for some years. that's another fact.
XT3 doesn't have IBIS. It's the smallest camera of the pack. Still got number 1 position in the ranking. Fact.
IDX has 1.3x crop.

Who did that? I haven't seen anyone do that. At least not in this thread.
You said: "No but it can shoot full frame HD as well as full frame stills. None of the cheap 4k/60p cameras can." Implying that it is somehow a feature to be noted.

We're now praising Canon because they offer full frame HD?

Full Frame?
I would accept the 1.74 crop. Just give us the 60p. That's what Fuji just did (1.5apsc x 1.18crop = 1.77 crop 4K 60p).
-
Releasing a camera in October 2018 and not include 4K 60p is DOA in my opinion. I can accept the crop, single card slot and RS, but not the lack of 60p. Not when other cheaper cameras are offering it.

Really curious about the IBIS performance on the Nikon Zs. Sony isn't up to snuff for me. Would really love a FF option with the IBIS performance of a GH5. No 4k60p is a bummer too...
-
Cropless 4k 60p is non-negotiable. A thicker, more robust codec is also necessary. New battery is expected. Better ergonomics would be a dream as would some type of internal ND system.

The problem is that the biggest critics were never going to buy one anyway. And if you look at the video specs, other than the 4K crop and no IBIS, the camera is pretty damn good and beats a lot of other camera’s offerings.
Wrong. I would have bought one if not for the crop. I bet you Andrew would have as well. The crop and lack of 120fps is a joke in 2018. I could even forgive the lack of 4k60p and extra memory slot. But not the crop and 120....

Don't worry, Canon will have proper 4k soon enough, once everyone else moves to 8k...

It's time we also held the so-called reviewers responsible for driving the hype-train for handicapped technology for the sake of their pennies in affiliate links. Calling these things "reviews" is fake news. When you're flown out and dined in Hawaii it's not a review, it's a rim job.

Well put, Andrew. Thank you.
As one person put it, it is us, the consumers, that end up footing the bill for these events and the nauseating, sugar-coated reviews we get from it later. The extra $300 on the EOS-R body covers the cost of this dishonest extravaganza.
Need to put pressure on the "journalists" and unsubscribe from their channels...

I preordered from Hotrod immediately after the BM presentation and I can confirm that the Deposit is non-refundable line was definitely there when I ordered. I know for sure it was because it made me pause for a beat to decide if I definitely wanted to order at that moment.
Any idea of the queue/number of preorders at Hot Rod?

There's plenty left, @IronFilm . Many need IBIS for their work. Many need eye detection. Many need reliable autofocus. Many need good weather sealing. Anamorphic de-squeeze. A tilting screen. Wifi. Smaller file sizes. The full frame look. Any number of things. There is no camera to rule them all - never was, never will be.
On the contrary, numerous impartial observers following an evaluative trip to Las Vegas concluded that the A7iii was the "complete" package.

Suddenly noone can shoot without IBIS, RAW and dozens of thousands of ISO!
I take it you're still using a t2i then? Or is that too uncessarily advanced also?

I'm interested to see the speedbooster options. Wonder if the .71 (m43s) will work.

It still has an external power input though?
I presume you could use a usb-c hub as well?
Yes, I suppose you could power it through DC but that would kill the run-and-gun capability.
I wonder about the hub idea...would be surprised if you could power and record simultaneously through the same port.
Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
