Yep I've had that happen too. The worst is when you hand off a final render to a client and they use "enhance" on YouTube.

    I thought so.
You are applying the subjective connotation of negativity, when in fact there is no intrinsic link to negativity in the definition or theory of scepticism itself.

could the following be used on the NX1?

    From here: http://x265.readthedocs.org/en/default/cli.html

    --nr-intra <integer>, --nr-inter <integer>
Noise reduction - an adaptive deadzone applied after DCT (subtracting from DCT coefficients), before quantization. It does no pixel-level filtering, doesn’t cross DCT block boundaries, has no overlap, The higher the strength value parameter, the more aggressively it will reduce noise.
Enabling noise reduction will make outputs diverge between different numbers of frame threads. Outputs will be deterministic but the outputs of -F2 will no longer match the outputs of -F3, etc.
Values: any value in range of 0 to 2000. Default 0 (disabled).

If you could go by the Samsung booth and just say.... What the Fuck guys.... WHAT THE FUCK lol.
Apparently they do have a booth so if you could go by there and take some pictures of the professional broadcast level fridge camera that would be great. Thanks

Here is my response to all the usual hate that everything gets at Nofilmschool.
"When will Canon understand that the only type of camera user is the artsy narrative movie maker?
Why do they think that there are people out there taking stills, collecting news, surveilance, special things like remote controled robots, live broadcast, regular home users?
That doesnt exist. Just look through the comments.
Artsy narrative movies with no lighting in high frame rates and razor thin dof. That is the only type of content created anywhere in the world.
And the people that makes them are broke, so it cant cost as much as it needs for profit.
News, sports, porn, childrens TV, docs, reality, event, concerts....  Nope all gone.
In fact, all of those things are illegal to even discuss online.
Anyone who makes or even discuss such productions will be killed by the "Bitter Online Film Looking Video Makers Movement"."

Got in the brand new Video Devices PIX-E7 yesterday. Quick observations, build quality is first rate. Tap to zoom is very handy and works well. When plugged into the A7Rii it defaulted to 422HQ 10bit. The resulting recordings looked very good and the unit was not loud when operating. The PIX-E7 does get warm, but not hot. The display is very nice, pulling focus was quite easy and noise was easy to detect when present. Colors looked good. The monitor allows you to add non-baked in LUTS which is very handy. Peaking and zebras are also nice to have.

I really don't want to start a debate about Samsung so I am going to just say that that is your opinion and my opinion is that samsung makes many fantastic products with leading edge technology.
I also believe your statement about "Most of what they do is pretty shite or a sneaky copy of X" could be said about almost every company that has ever existed including apple, Cannon, Panasonic, Black Magic, etc. They all copy each other and they all make alot of shity products that is what competition is all about.

I for one, am grateful for cinegain's humor. And I agree, sitting here waiting for a possible sale that has happened only ONCE before, is kind of silly. So either hold your horses another while and use what you already own, or just get what's available at the moment for the price it's sold. 995 for either pocket or micro cinema is actually really cheap considering value. Bmpcc's accessories today is really cheap too.

Let me get a clearer picture... "Please insert another 50 ct"
<inserts coin> Ah yes! The star isn't in the sky... it's on a tile on the floor... I think it must be the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Zach, as this is happening in the future, this must mean that you... you...
I see you playing tourist in LA. Get some napkins too. You're gonna spill some icecream on the Walk.

That's why I'm still using Sony. They have the features I need with the compromise of doing more work with the colour. I think Sony should focus on the colour science and white balance for the next A7 cameras (and battery life!!), among the predictable other upgrades (every spec higher and a bit better).
I do this all the time.
Just recently wrapped up shooting, lighting and editing this video. FS7 + A7SII. Extreme lighting that will make pixel peepers sweat with horror (the degradation of extremes is intentional).

Don't be so snide, there are people who do just this all the time. It's just that most of them don't post about it because their clients are paying millions of dollars so no one knows what the footage used to look like before the grade.
My friend had some AF100 footage he cut for a promo graded by Stefan Sonnenfeld and it started rough but looked brilliant once he was done. I wouldn't be so hubristic as to assume it can't be done, just humble enough to admit you can't do. I can't do it, but I have a Canon so I'm not worried.
I still can't fathom how people deal with hard chroma clipping, though. Apparently even CO3 gets stumped when it came to baked in hard chroma clipping, but where there's a will (and a lot of money) there's a way. Maybe they have it figured out by now. Or if they don't maybe someone else does.
But in theory, I agree. I don't have the skill to fix that kind of stuff, nor the patience.

You know. The units left unsold and causing them to leave the market don't just disappear with Samsung quitting. So of course there's still some that need to get sold. Doesn't change the fact that it's stil discontinued. Don't get any ideas.

I've been shooting 16-235. Don't feel like changing the values on every clip when I bring it in to Premiere. Annoying as hell. I've seen very little benefit to doing so, in fact I've seen more banding in 0-255 footage.

You know what I think makes a really good Formula 1 or MotoGP driver? That he's as good in the field as he is with his team of engineers. He not only needs to know his personal limits, he needs to know where his machine shines and where there's room for improvement to squeeze out that little bit of extra oompf.
Albert Fast is one of these folks that knows the limitations of his gear and knows what to do in post processing to make it go that much further. I feel like that's the real struggle. It's like flying a plane, everyone can make a decent take-off, just throttle up and yank the yoke... pulling off a smooth landing is a 2nd. You've got to have a feeling and understanding for it. It's about putting the puzzle pieces together, you've got to have that oversight. I'm still trying to get to that place with getting my looks down, figuring out the whole deal with all these different LUTs, techniques and methods especially, since I've been shying away from them except for getting quick impressions how different looks would suit certain footage and then just tinkering away from scratch, which tends to get a little time consuming, but I also don't want to throw in a LUT and look like a Instagram hipster. Tough to find that balance, I salute those who have a natural feel for it!
One of my fav looking vids to come across over the last year, must have been this one by Ed on the F35, to me that's just gorgeous synergy of men and tools.

I just got a bit curious and thought it could be interesting to get a sense of how many uses noise reduction?
Be it Neat Video or Red Giant Denoiser or what have you.
For work I have used it on a project in the past and on my first couple of t3i videos.
But other than that I never use it.
In all my +200 youtube videos there is no noise reduction. Be it the BMPC4K, D16, Sonys a7sii, etc, nope dont use it.
I guess I don't think its worth the time, a little noise never killed anybody. I don't even have my Neat Video license installed anymore.
So what do you guys say, sometimes, never, always?

Canon is on the right track with this camera. The form factor is great. Just put a bigger sensor in it (super35 or fullframe) and make it interchangeable ef mount, so we can use the tons of lenses we already bought. Also it would be great to have dual pixel tech in it and the possibility to remove the hand grip so it gets more gimbal drone friendly. But there is a big problem with this concept, it kills the c100 line of cameras.

Fine details are much better with 160mb. I guess that's a sweet spot for 8bit 420. Would be really great to see 10bit and 422, but I doubt it's feasible.

Brian Caldwell stated long ago that an NX booster isn't feasible, as the mount is too narrow and long, with too much stuff inside it (contact pins, shutter cover etc)- there just isn't enough room for the speedbooster optics. So a m4/3 mount would indeed have been much better in this case.
The dreamer in me hopes that Samsung is letting NX die so they can come back in a year or two with a new, much shorter and wider mount, that allows for a full-frame sensor, speedboosters, internal NDs and unlimited adaptability (and backwards compatibility with NX via an OEM adapter). Basically their equivalent of E-mount. Then their superior tech would be free to dominate.
