I just picked up a Xeen 24mm on ebay for $1500. It's so nice to have a sturdy lens with a giant focus throw. I plan on collecting a set of them over the next couple of years. Here is a shot with the Xeen 24 and FS700.
Another benefit is that they cover full frame up to 6K.

Moot.  Kinefinity wouldn't be broadcasting about prores support if they didn't have the licence in the bag in some way or another.  The person who responded to your email probably just went on their own website, saw the brand isn't listed and responded accordingly.  I seriously doubt the person handling random unsolicited emails is taking the time, let alone even able to access the list of pending licencing deals going on in one of the biggest technology companies in the world!

I just bought a A7R2 and was thinking about selling my A7S, but I kept it and use them both. It's still a great cam, even for pictures it has mojo. Look @ some A7S video's on Vimeo and You Tube.
I would recommend the classic A7S.

Today i made some tests with dual ISO mode which lets to record with two ISOs, there is possible to gain additional 3-4 stops of dynamic range for the price of aliasing in highlights and shadows (where resolution drops by half) but midtones retains full resolution.
So, about the test - I exposted ETTR on the sky to avoid clipping, processed the files with cr2hdr and than did some grading in resolve 12. I lowered the highlights -100, shadows +100 and than raised the overall exposure + 3EV. I had to make some tweaking in nodes to avoid clipping in the bright sky after that. There was some noise in the shadows but i get rid of it with the neat video resolve plugin. I get a quite flat image so added some contrast and little bit of arri lut to the taste. And a film grain on top of that.
The sky was quite bright despite the clouds, with ETTR the car interior was very underexposed, without dual iso recovering of such amount of shadow information would be impossible.
I didnt use dualiso feature so often before but now i am more and more confident using it in some situations. In this test i used 100/800 isos, there is aliasing and moire especially visible in power lines and car interior elements but it is not very distracting and i am very satisfied with quality and especially dynamic range.

Not really, no. Maybe you're thinking of the AJA Cion. The Kinemini doesn't have global shutter. It's usable at ISO 3200, and very good at 1600. ~13.5 stops of DR vs the Ursa's ~11.5. The color science is very, very different, as is the native tonal response. The Kinemini takes generic 2.5" SSDs vs the Ursa's CFast. Kinemini has Cineform in addition to uncompressed CDNG and 3:1 KineRAW. Kinemini has an OLPF. The Kinemini has DCI 4096x2160 over the UM4K's nonstandard 4000x2160. The Kinemini has a 1.4x crop factor vs BM's 1.7x. Kinemini has 92fps slomo, BM only 60p. KM has interchangeable mounts and the option for the short flange distance Kinemount. With the UM4K, you're stuck with either EF or PL. A big one for me: the KM has downscaled 2K Cineform in camera, whereas you can only get full-res RAW out of the BM. It's a lot lighter at 1.5kg vs 2.3kg, has support for anamorphic shooting, and even uses less power than the Ursa Mini. The only real advantages for Blackmagic are the bundled software, XLR jacks, and larger local userbase. I'd have to send the camera out for repairs/servicing either way, so that's a wash, and word on the forums is that KF's customer support is outstanding.

They are both cinema cameras, with the same base needs as anything else in that class--power, storage, monitoring--but imo, the Kinemini is a much more capable tool.

People are getting huffy about Kinefinity not being on the approved ProRes license list and are using that fact as a club to knock anyone who praises the company and their cameras. I think.

If I had the capital, I'd plunk down for one of these today. Looks like an amazing package, and the image off the 6K Kinefinity sensor is just beautiful.

A load of fuss over nothing.
Any image where the shadows have been brought up in the raw files to the extent the are doing in the DPReview tests will look rubbish on every single camera out there apart from perhaps the Pentax 645Z with 50MP Sony CMOS.
They are not measuring the USABLE dynamic range and by usable, I mean, good looking images.

Try upscaling it to 4K and uploading again. That will give the HD file roughly tripple the bitrate. Works wonders for my videos at least.
Just 1440p will double it but save some space/time.

Hey guys, I made a clip for a band (all a7s, with external recorder). Now its on youtube, but the artefacts and macroblocking drive me crazy. Its much better on vimeo. I already rendered a version without grain and uploaded a h264 to youtube, that was a bit better than the prores 422 file who gave really weird artefacts. But its nothing close to what I have on vimeo.

    Hi there,
I've been a lurker for a looooong time but decided to join up. I'm a newbie so learning as I go.
I recently received the BMMCC camera and did a very rough test between the BMPCC, same settings in a lowly lit room. I wanted to see if the dark areas showed dead pixels. Instead I saw this vertical banding going on. If it was broad daylight, something like this wouldn't be common/noticeable, correct? I am aware these are not lowlight cameras and I'll be using lights with them. I wanted to be discreet because I didn't tell my partner I purchased new toys...I will soon! :P
If you want more proper tests, I can do it tomorrow when I have some alone time.
I did some contrast adjustments to the stills to show the difference.
    Vimeo file.

Thought it'd be fun to have an official topic for footage from the new Samsung hacks so it doesn't clutter up the hackers' topics and get lost in the shuffle.

Anyone using the higher bitrate on the NX1 or the new 2.5K mode on the NX500? Veeeeeeeeery interested to see some samples from each.

    I've tried it.
It's very early days with this mode I think. The quality is just not there yet, very highly compressed and soft. Once new settings are discovered I am sure it will improve!
The 2.5K Samsung originally had on the pre-production model was pretty good quality and the setting must be lurking in there somewhere.

Exactly, its not like BMD is the only company that does this (Samsung, Fuji, Red, etc).
And specially BMD that does it every year, over and over. I have no sympathy for people who put their eggs in their basket when they have done the same thing 3 years in a row (I can of course excuse those who never heard of them before, but still, buy something so expensive without research... not smart imo).

And Im a total fanboy. I would love an URSA mini 4K. Ive had 8 total BMD cameras and will over the years buy 8 more. But when NAB comes and they announce something new. I will just keep my cool and say, "sounds good, I will look into it when it is within arms reach, in a store, for me to buy". Just like I did last year.

    So don't buy it

I fail to see the problem. I think Coke sucks, so I buy Pepsi.
    I get your point
Personally I feel setting a good example and communication is the way to teach kids and dogs. Anger and punishment gets me/them nowhere.
So in this example I would purchase a camera of a brand I thought did better. That stings more at BMD than forum posts.
In the end all they want to do is make money

I dont get why people get so upset about delays from BMD, overheating Sony and stuff like this.
Its shame, shure. But to get worked up about it, I dont get that.
Ive said it before and its worth mentioning again. When you are mad the brain literally is loosing cells. So, is it worth self destruction just because a camera doesn't have a global shutter?

Vimeo still trumps YouTube for quality & there don't seem to be any other realistic options at the moment.
So i'm going to stop worrying about their new auto select function, since every viewer has the option to choose the quality of playback if they want to.
I've got until September to decide whether or not to renew.
Perhaps if you leave some constructive feedback, things might get better - since telling them you don't want this function isn't going to work. Work with them to make it better seems the only solution.
