This has certainly been an interesting read.  Was going to figure out a way to say I had gotten invited to the BM meeting in Manchester and show I had a 4k BM camera in hand, but I tossed both in the rubbish bin.
I generally try to make jokes when people are angry.  It's what I do.
Right or wrong though guys - had we seen Andrew in Hawaii last week at the Canon PR launch of the R - I think we'd have all puked.  Well, if he came on "not" saying how awful it was.  Andrew is a guy we want telling it like it is....that's why I come here.
I stopped going to the PersonalView website years ago when he basically started a "shrine" thread to Josef Stalin.  Man was responsible for more deaths that Hitler...

As if I hadn't already said that I came here to participate in the forum. Not like I joined just to insult you. You aren't the draw of the forum, at least not for me, and I'm sure for most members of this forum. I didn't join this place to get closer to prestigious Andrew Reid. I joined so that I can participate in discussions with the likes of people like Captain Hook and John Brawley.

Seriously, from a guy who has an ego of his own, you really need to get yours under control.

No, you're wrong. I deserved to be there 100%, in fact it was the least Blackmagic could do to repay me for many years of support I have shown them.
The future chances are reduced that's true.
    I have made a choice.
To speak freely. Feels good. It's a lot healthier than being "professional". Who wants to be a professional camera reviewer writing only positive things all the time? DULL!
The reason EOSHD will not get an early peek at the Pocket 4K is because I one of the honest ones. In the end do you want EOSHD to be an inflight lifestyle magazine or a reliable resource for camera info?

To both of you, I think the general camera buying public really appreciate the efforts you both put in, informing buyers of pros and cons. Have a beer and cool down. Social media is like road rage these days. Don't take it seriously. But honestly, bury the hatchet and keep doing what you do. Build bridges not walls!
Both of you are great, AR and JB. I think Jo Public really appreciates the work you do. Don't get too riled up by social media commentary. It's like road rage online these days. Sit down and have a pint and let the BS blow over.

This honestly doesn't reflect well on anybody, least of all yourself.  Freezing the thread for a cool-off was a good idea.  My advice (unsolicited I know!) would be to take that down for a similar period and then consider if you really want it out there.
It comes off as sour grapes, and just isn't a smart response.

Think you're overreacting to all of this. Dunno mate, you're just seeing things that aren't there.
I am afraid too that you're quite right. That's the way the game is played right now I'm afraid. But do you want to play ball and get in or do you want to shout from the sidelines? That's really up to you.
Except... there was no such message. Companies are big... positions change... networks fade and re-establish. You want to be on the radar? You better make sure you're flying through their airspace making waves big enough to get picked up. It's a sea of content creators, filmmakers, blogs and forums out there. They can't keep tabs and stats on all and invite like the top 10 that come out of that. It's like a birthday party. I invite the people I've gotten to know well. Why would they go about it any differently? They're not mindreaders. You can't expect them to know what you want unless you make that clear to them. And how should they have known that you are back in the UK. I thought you were in Berlin as well, myself. Maybe if you shot them a message now making a case for yourself they'd be supercool to still give you one early. But instead you make up your mind about how they think about you and EOSHD and throw this unnecessary tantrum. Boycotting their products. Threatening to close the forum. Like... are you having a midlife crisis mate? Nobody is an enemy here. Why can't we just all get along, talk this over and sort this out like adults?
This has nothing to do with not appreciating you or what you've done with the site and for the community. The GH2 Hack Vault and stuff back in the day got me hooked. The GH4 and anamorphic guides were great. Your blog posts... your forum comments. I might not agree with everything, but I've always respected what you did. This is a safe place for people of all kind of backgrounds and skill levels, it's great to see the comradery, playful banter and knowledge displayed. And I am in fact grateful for that and for you keeping that alive. But that's got zero to do with not being invited to a hands-on event. C'mon.

That is true all the way down.... many people own a 5D when a 70D could serve their needs perfectly well.
And plenty of 70D owners who don't do anything with it that a Canon Rebel couldn't do.
And ditto many Rebel owners who might as well have just stuck with their smartphone!

Or they could have rented a GH5, and put that spare money into renting lights etc and paying their crew
Was DoP on a shoot earlier this year in which the director had already arranged renting a RED Weapon, am glad I talked him into instead using 2x Sony PMW-F3 and hiring lights + crew.

I'm guilty of this too! Not just cameras, but buying more sound gear than I really truly "need" right now.

Nobody was expecting EOS R to have 1.8x+ crop, no 1080p120, no IBIS, no burst silent shutter, horrific rolling shutter,  no joystick, no tracking silent shutter, 1 card slot, native R mount lenses that won't work with the vari-ND filter,  top left "on-off button - only" either for $2300.
Methinks some Canon upper mgmt a-hole asks really stupid questions like "how can we make this not as good as our Cinema line"...and everyone submits to his/her  will.

Was this shot in France?  Must have shot from Belgium for those wide shots.
Stopped watching at 0:07 when he said "shoots 8 frames per second" - yeah, not if your subject is actually moving.  AF locked at that speed.

Day 2 other things that are super annoying - the top left button is *ONLY* the freaking on/off switch.  That's it folks!
You can't (yet) shoot anything other than SINGLE SHOT mode for silent shooting
You can't (yet) shoot using EYE AF using tracking - it's single shot only
FPS drops to THREE when tracking is enabled.

Goodnight people.  This feels rushed to be honest.

I've made you a handy cut out and keep guide of the lenses you'll need for the equivalent of, for example, a Zeiss Compact Prime set **.

If you are looking for a 15.55555555561mm prime then I can definitely recommend Tamron's new 15.5555555556mm f2.8.
It has far more mojo than Sigma's 15.55555555561mm f1.8 in my opinion.

** Yes, yes, I know the CP.2s would be used on Super35 so there is an additional multiplier to be factored in but it was only a joke anyway.

It is 2300 bucks for basically a APSC camera in video. Actually it's even worse. And every lens I have will be something I will need a calculator to figure out what Focal length it Really is now.  And it willing be shocking to see the readout on the calculator, and to boot they are expensive FF lenses, that are big as hell, just wasted, hanging off of it. And I am suppose to be paying for a full frame camera and not getting one for video.  That is the reason I am Not getting one. ?

I make a good living and was ready to hand B&H my CC# for one + the 35 1.8 and the 28-70 F/2.  I told myself I would not if the crop was worse that 1.4-1.5 in UHD.  Canon shot themselves in the foot again.
Canon is like the EX you broke up with a couple years ago - she comes back around every so often - you have a good one night fling and romanticize about the past.  Go out to dinner, talk about the 5d3 raw back in 2013, hop into bed.  Then the next day you hear she's still doing drugs - hasn't changed at all.    There's a reason you two broke up.
I wanted to be wrong here - haven't been excited about a camera for a while - I hate the Sony colors and overheating, hate Panasonic's shitty AF, etc.
Yes, but are you 100% sure it's UHD out and not just 1080p out?  I don't recall any Canon bodies doing UHD HDMI out.

No. f/2 is f/2 only in exposure triangle. f/2 is not f/2 when considering DoF or (total) amount of light per photo (not per pixel).
Think about this - aperture is the size of the lens opening. If you do not use the whole lens opening, the whole aperture size, that means that you are using smaller than maximum aperture. What does it matter to you if lens has a certain aperture when you are not using the light that that aperture passes through - you are using only a part of it? So, on crop sensor that f/2 aperture is effectively smaller than it would have been on full frame senzor. What is really important - physical size of an opening, or size of that opening that is actually used for taking a photo?
You have to realize that F-stop of f/2 (or F2) is a relative aperture - relative to the focal length! Without focal length you have nothing! On the other and, real aperture is what defines DoF and total amount of light per photo. In other words, when using 50 mm f/2 lens on a FF body, real aperture size is 25 mm. If you use f/2 on 100 mm lens, real aperture size is 50 mm. Wow! Mind blown! The same relative aperture (the same F-stop) equates to different real apertures on different focal length lenses!
But, if you use equivalent F-stops - 100 mm F4 on FF gives aperture size of 25 mm, which is the same as 50 mm F2 lens - real aperture size in both of those instances is 25 mm. F-stop (relative aperture size) is different, but real aperture size is the same. And we can expect the same FoV with that combination, the same DoF, and the same amount of light per photo (which means we should drop ISO on MFT camera by 2 stops - and obviously, FF cameras have about 2 stops better ISO performance - everything checks out).

Not necessarily. Yes, there is size of photosites you don't want to go below, but the main reason is that MFT sensors in general receive less light per photo. Consider this - if you want to take a photo in low light, you might use 35mm f/1.4 on FF. To get the equivalent photo on MFT, you need 17,5mm f/0.7 lens. Does that kind of lens actually exist? If you use nifty fifty on FF (50mm f/1.8), to give the same amount of light to MFT sensor you would have to use 25mm f/0.9 lens. Does that lens even exist? Do MFT users use lenses that are that fast? No? No. They usually just use lenses with the equivalent focal lenght, but the same F-stop (which means 2-stop less light, and therefor get about 2-stop more noise at the same ISO).
So, that is the answer why MFT struggles with low light - because of the sensor size, and not having adequately fast lenses which would compensate for that small sensor size. For MFT cameras not to struggle with low light, used lens must have about 2-stops better F-stop than FF camera.
