10-bit is only available in camera up to 4K 30p. Perhaps 10-bit 60p for external recording?

It is quite deceptive marketing if it's not for video, since they presented it as a step on the road to 8K video in 2020.

    First full review:
"In my opinion, as a B-roll or hybrid camera is where this model really shines. 4:2:2 8-bit recording on to SD cards, Dual-IS II in 4K video, Cine-D and Cine-V profiles and a mic input. It’s taking the best features of the GX80 and GH4 whilst slimming down on the niche, high end features. For me, the Dual-IS is the biggest revelation. I had the benefit pain of using a DJI Ronin M with the GH4 for the shoot. Whilst it worked 75% of the time flawlessly, its annoyances were enough for me to hate it by the end of the shoot. There were also times where it was just impractical."

Nice features! The important piece of the puzzle to me will be the sensor and DR.

    18mp, 6K 30p, internal 10-bit 4:2:2 for 4K.

Now is the time to bring back multi-aspect sensors. The 4K crop on Panasonic's current cameras is a real shame.
It would be great if they could put out something that downscales from the whole sensor and relegate the current method of 4K capture to the extended tele mode where it belongs.

Now 43rumors is saying the G80 will have 4:2:2 8bit while the GH5 has the previously announced 4:2:2 10bit.       Looks like a nice A/B cam duo to me.

GH4 is competing with A7sII and A7rII, in the sense that they are taking market share that might have gone to the GH4. GH4 got a big boost by being the first on the market with 4K. It doesn't matter that it's half the price, it was the only option, so it was adopted for a lot of higher end uses.
Panasonic need to convince video users that it's worth staying with the M4/3 system rather than ponying up the extra cash and switching.

I can see it happening because Panasonic are at a turning point with M43 - Sony's full frame efforts have narrowed the size advantage and present a viable threat in video quality, so they need to do something drastic to stay in the high end ILC game. Without a feature like this, GH5 is going to be an also-ran. There is pressure to put out a product that makes similar waves as the GH4.
And as has been said, they have no higher tier product to protect.

Panasonic have to stay relevant in a FF/S35 world.
This means new features for a good price.
Someone will break the 8bit limit... Panasonic might see this as a way to bring more to the m43 system.

Nope, Panasonic doesn't have Canon's knack or track record of such epic level let downs.

Oh I thought you wheren't disappointed on the 5d4 .  You're going to hate when they come out with those specs at 1500-1600 dollars. Because you spent your money on Canon all over again.

    I predict a blockbuster of a camera.
I'd love to see a battery grip that unlocks other features (higher fps), unlike the YAGHYAGHYAGHYAGH.
I also hope to see an improvement in dynamic range.
If this all stacks up, I'll be a customer for sure.

Television only appears to be currently much better than film if you limit what you watch to mainstream American features.
The only one of those I'd rate in the top ten of the year it released is Gravity. I'd also disagree with the assessment of Hateful Eight as basically a super hero film - it has much more in common with theatre and slow burn horror (looking at you, The Thing).

It draws in a large audience, no doubt, maybe even more than a film these days, but I don't prefer it or anything.
I've heard some filmmakers say they're "switching" to tv.. and that's just baffling to me. Maybe it can work that way for comedy or if you include mini-series as tv, but for me the best part of a film isn't the viewing experience or budget or anything, it's the ending. The Graduate, Reservoir Dogs, A Woman Under the Influence, The Departed, Primal Fear, Drive, etc - the ending is what makes the whole thing count, and shows you they were competent the entire time. And tv shows made without an ending in mind often flop when it counts. Most shows jump the shark, and the very end can be even worse. For Lost, the important part was definitely supposed to be the ending.. which turned out to be.. who even cares? it was so-so. Purgatory or something. The end of Dexter nearly killed the whole series for me. Breaking Bad, ugh. I'm slightly embarrassed to say I used to watch Pretty Little Liars, 80% as a joke, but I was curious who A was.. turns out it's no one! Or everyone.. the writers don't have a freaking clue, and it shows. Scenes From A Marriage is an amazing show, but if Bergman wrote the first episode and then let new writers swoop in and carry it to nowhere for 10 seasons.. and then try to end it with JUSTICE, kill me. Season 3 of Sherlock was a mess, made me wonder if any of it was ever good. Anyway, too many examples.. For a comedy, I don't care how it ends, especially if it's episodic, like Cheers - and those endings are so much easier, just pat yourselves on the back and say goodbye to your fans.
I AM, however, very into Girls and Love. And to a lesser extent, You're the Worst and Casual. The genre those all fit under I think has real potential. Not sure what it is, but it's a great tone, very human, and I don't particularly care where it's heading. but again, none of them have ended.. I'm a little scared what may happen. And I have noticed a little drop in quality of Girls in some of the latest season episodes I think, but their good stuff is so good, I can forgive them. anyway, those are my 4 cents
