There is a special app.... I think it's Filmic Pro.
    Film Riot uses it:
    There may be other apps???
But don't use the built in camera app... It's too basic.

I will be able to match them exactly ; )
I need both cameras in my possession - the GH5S is already accounted for.
If someone with the 1Dx is willing to lend out their camera for a day or two, I will gladly do this

Well I guess if you are Really good at exposure, proper lighting, not shooting into the sun, etc, 8 bit works. It has somehow worked for many years,
But in a professional venue they have every base covered. Better cameras, great cameramen, great audio, great lighting, great graders, great editors, great actors, on and on.
So it is hard for the average person to compete with the Pros, but now I think the gap has been closed a Lot. But you are not going to do Green Screen, VFX effects in 8 bit very well.
But I think we beat ourselves up too much anymore on output quality. I am not saying to not try as hard as possible to achieve it, but at the cost of always being in debt, worrying about it all the time Bah I say.
Look back how bad 8mm cameras were, super8 even. Nobody said damn that sucked. They were happy to see what had been shot, not complaining about the quality. And I would imagine most of the people that watch videos have no clue what 90% of the problems we piss and moan about even exist. I would say the most important thing that drives me crazy is poor Audio, not poor video, in a short or a long. And other than one person on here, we rarely ever even talk about that subject.

The behavior is correct - Alexa does it too ; ) With wide gamut to 709 primaries, most saturated blues become very saturated

That's right, the result of using GHa LogC is a stand in for Alexa LogC. Going from there, it may be treated as LogC from an Alexa (it can accept Arri's Rec 709 or other transforms intended for LogC). GHa Main and Soft are alternatives to Arri's Rec709; they all handle saturation in a way that is reminiscent of film (and is not in Alexa LogC natively), but place overall saturation and contrast differently as a grade base:
Main - Most Saturation, Middle Contrast (Mostly linear)
Soft - Middle Saturation, Lowest Contrast (Mostly linear)
    Arri's Rec709 - Least Saturation, Most Contrast (S-emphasized)

Thanks Juan; grading the Alexa seems especially silky to me. Perhaps its the ProRes I frame, the diffused 2k, uniformity of the bits, psychology, or some combination of the lot. The conversion is largely smooth and uniform, as a continuous transform of the space. The GH5 has quite a bit more detail than my Alexa C
From what I can tell, it seems very similar, perhaps with a less green red. There are also the new clipping fixes like in GHa, though the rolloff remains sudden. GH5S support is the plan; Colby Moore will be sending me his GH5S to do the conversion with once I am done primary work on the new process

For a little update, I faced the most absurd technical challenge last week.
Thursday, after a week of struggle, it was solved; today was the very first test with the Arri

Its probably the cheapest working Alexa ever sold, at $7800 for the body only (best offer). With shipping and minimal accessories, there was another 1.5k added on.
The seller neglected to mention (or didn't know?) that it had a history of salt water damage (I called Arri about the serial number). What this amounted to is that the SD card slot wasn't working when I received it. I got creative and cleaned the contacts in there, and it worked (the electronics in the cam are water-sealed after all). The upside of this is that it is a very recent model, with only 536 hours on the body.
I intend to make a reference quality color conversion for a variety of cameras, with side by sides to document the conversion. And then, I'll probably use it for close ups and 120fps slow motion for a narrative thereafter

    That checks out;

When closely matching contrast and saturation between the two, the brighter greens,  darker blues, and smoother skin tone from shadow to light really stand out here.
