  1. Shooting on the 50mm 1.6 on an S1H open Gate 6k as per Tito's suggestion... this lens is GREAT. Even for "talking head" stuff. https://youtu.be/cx-up6YXMrM
  2. Welcome back, Andrew! Been a fan of this blog since 2012! Keep up the great work!
  3. Andrew, thanks for having the balls to do this! You've saved me thousands of dollars and a huge amount of disappointment. Canon will NOT be getting my money.
  4. The correct answer is: who cares? The only thing I want to know is: will it have a flip around screeen? I need to get content out the door as quickly as possible, and the Sony screens with the exception of the A6400 are a stumbling block that just slows down the entire operation. i dicked around with the a7s for the first 3 years of my show, then switched to the GH5. ...a far more practical camera for YouTube. Would love to shoot on Sony again, but not if it’s going to be a pain in the ass! —Glenn www.youtube.com/spectresoundstudios
  5. Static shots, yes. But still have to get the camera into tight spots in the studio around drummers and whatnot. A monitor needs cabling & power. That's extra work. Dealt with a Sony A7s for three years and various "solutions." ..all of which required extra work. Got a GH5 last year & wondered how the hell I managed without it. Mainly because of the flip out screen! Never switching back to a non-flipping screen, I don't care what the specs say. Practicality trumps specs.
  6. No articulating screen? PASS! Specs are meaningless if the body isn't practical. I've had enough of dicking around with "solutions" that just add complexity. If I can't flip the screen around the camera is useless. I do over a million views a month on Youtube and need to get shit done. www.youtube.com/spectresoundstudios
  7. Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I do a Youtube show that generates roughly 1 million views a month on audio production & one of the questions that keeps coming up is, "how the hell do you get your voice to sound so good?" Here's my approach:
  8. Thanks for the test clips... those look simply incredible. Would love to see some skin tones though! FWIW, I switched over to a GH5 about a month ago after struggling with the A7s for the last 3 years to produce my YouTube show which averages about 1-1.5 million views a month. It's just easier.
  9. Just tried it out: The Good: I can add dissolves to my A7s footage and it doesn't turn to a stuttering mess like 12 did. Honestly, I like Resolve's edit window & it seems like it might be a contender. The Bad: Audio plays back in preview window. Disappears & reappears occasionally in timeline. Ok, let's get that fixed, shall we? Doesn't matter the source, video files, wav files, nothing. Obviously a bug.
  10. This is downright spectacular! Well done! What's the "wd1 Lut?"

    Sony a6300 4k

Well, this is a pleasant surprise! I do a YouTube show that averages 800,000 - 1.5 million views a month, and shoot roughly 3 episodes a week, all on the subject of music production. The A7s has been my go to camera over the last 16 months. "Autumn leaves" mode gives great color & skin tones right out of the box with minimal dicking around. I simply can't afford to waste time grading. (more power to you guys who are great at it) I've been looking for a B-camera for the A7s for the last little while, and the A7rii was looking like a serious (but damn expensive) contender. The Blackmagic Micro even looked pretty good too, although I'm none to impressed with vaporware. But the a6300 is a total game changer! I really need a multi camera setup, and for this price, I might just buy two!
  12. Skin tones looked great on this! Was it any easier to grade than the a7s in SLOG?
  13. Thanks Andrew! Could you perhaps post some pics of how you have your Kowa Clamped... just trying to get some ideas. What's the thread size on the Rangefinder?
  14. Beautiful footage! Thanks so much for sharing your tips on Autumn Leaves!
  15. Hey, thanks for sharing! That looks absolutely stunning. I had no idea the A7s could pull that off! I'm totally shooting Autumn leaves from now on!
  16. Global shutter and decent batteries, with 13 stops. Very impressive. I wonder how it's low light performance is? FWiW, I've got an old Schnieder 10mm that was just awesome on my Pocket cam with a Glidecam
  17. Yeah, looks killer, unfortunately, his blog post isn't working... what was his camera/lens setup?
  18. Ok, I'll admit, I'm drooling over the Bolex Body Gloves... est price for the non-gold version? And will the big one work on a Cinelux with the front flaps?
  19. Did you dremel that? What was your procedure? I've got one of these & might be interested in taking it down, too.
  20. Does anyone know how to get hold of Sony's division responsible for the firmware? We need a 4:3 video option as well :)
  21. Great write up, Andrew! FWIW, I haven't touched my bmpcc since I got my a7s.... And the battery life is great compared to the 20 minute one on the pocket cam! Also, grading Slog in resolve is easy with Vision Color Impulz luts.
  22. Thanks for the info! Tried it out today... WOW! Very nice, indeed. Ridiculously easy to get a great grade with Slog footage.
