Ken...I think Panasonic will lose very few sales over this issue...as you know, in reality it's fixable for those needing AF...for those who hate this camera, you could put an Alexa sensor and processing at 4K in the GH5 body, and they'd still complain...because they made their minds up before the first image ever appeared online...I'm sure there are a few exceptions, but I think for the most part this already holds true...Jon...I can understand for your purpose that you may be on the fence...but then you already have the G85/80?...and the cameras are very close...but for anyone wanting to shoot anything, the IQ is a no-brainer...I can't keep thinking of the US election as a personal comparison to the GH5...to me with the election, the question that keeps coming up, WHAT PLANET DO YOU LIVE ON???...clearly not the same one I do!...anyway...it's the same with this camera...if someone hates this camera, I don't have either the verbal skill, nor the patience to persuade them...my only regret in this is that if Panasonic  sells many of these, more money to put into the next great GH camera from them a few years down the road...

You can always correct it on touchscreen going with tap-to-focus, once it seems to accurately work on both AF and MF. Without mention @post on editing... :-D

Seems the last GH5 testing entries on tap-to-focus are pretty positive to confirm Jon Pais' findings on the older GH5 sister (G85) BTW:
[Focus Pulling in both modes: Touchscreen & Focus Transition]
No idea on settings but lets us to infer those MY fastest settings were simply misleading. Reason why I never bought his tests as much reliable, likely to happen honest but biased IMO.

I understand what you're saying.  It's not really 6K, just like UHD isn't really 4K either.  But sticking to aspect ratios, I guess you can say it's close enough.  Most of it is marketing anyway.  Red, Sony, etc all claim 5K, 6K or 8K and it's not really that size.
To answer your question about recording, on a 64GB card:
    8bit UHD 16:9 30P - 1hr 24min
    8bit Anamorphic 4:3 30P - 1hr 24min
    10bit UHD 16:9 30P - 54min
    8bit UHD 16:9 60P - 54min
    8bit Anamorphic 4:3 60P - 54min
    8bit 6K Photo Mode 4:3 30P - 41min
Continuous recording is possible with 6K Photo Mode.  Again it's just like 4K Photo Mode on the GH4 - full video and audio recording.  But it is HEVC H265, so transcoding is a must in order to edit.  I would show you some of the longer shots of 4-5min, but it would be HUGE, around 60-80GB.  Transcode, edit, and then the render time...  Rendering just the small clips are something in the order of 30min.  If I did 5 min it might be a couple of hours on my mac.  Definitely something to consider with these large files.
The GH5 really is an amazing camera.  At one time I was really considering getting a Sony FS5 or FS7 just for the 4K 60P and the slomo.  But I'm so glad that I waited.  To have Anamorphic 4:3 modes means I don't have to do crazy cropping with 16:9.  Plus with the added benefit of better codecs and larger anamorphic coming soon, it's almost like a mini RED or Alexa.  As for all those people returning theirs or complaining about AF - well this isn't the camera for them.  This camera really is for filmmakers.  It has a lot of the tools that filmmakers need.  The new Waveform tool, peaking is improved, etc etc.  There's just so much value for the money.

@nahua, indeed... But it doesn't make sense either to call it 6K photo or less than 5K video, that's what actually this camera and this mode both are too. I wonder on overheating not because I don't know both Sony and Panasonic.
Man, you're speaking with someone who is customer of both brands for longer than your age very likely ; ) if you were born in 90s : D
I wonder about, precisely, because they insist to these silly denominations such as 6K Photo or to present this camera only as 4K video capture device on film side. I thought this mode would only be available just for a few seconds. It seems you can have 3 hours out of it or until your battery or card will completely drain. Recording sound included. How come?
Hence my fair try to detect where the catch is.
People look like very crazy, very lately. Panasonic marketing doesn't escape to this remark. This camera is fully underrated. A shame.

Auto. In MF you can't get that kind of error unless the subject distance changes...assuming you focused accurately in the first place.
I've found tap to focus to be very accurate.

I see. So you tried to focus your face and the camera focused the background? Maybe in autofocus? Did you see if in manual mode the tap to focus behaves the same?

If it is in autofocus I can understand. In manual, much difficult to accept this behaviour of the camera. Tap to focus can't be wrong then, it should work fine.

Blame much more Panasonic reps than the complexity of their AF system. Other than that, it is a film camera, not exactly the typical vlog one. Good for her imagerie! ;-)

    Jingles is back...
AF Sensitivity reduced to -3 in order to prevent hunting over the background. Speed is up trying to not become slow... With those so many Christmas lights in that tree will be hard to match those settings. That is, if you'll have the patience I don't have to follow 45 minutes of this soup of this and that to arrive to the same conclusion on tap to focus. Either way, still without clue if slower or the slowest settings will avoid hunting on that semi-auto focus mode as he names it, actually part of AF system with a range of settings which will vary the performance, I bet.

Well, this is internet, a discussion forum... ; ) Your point has its merit, though. I've already left the plea to MY and some other guy who's testing the bitch. Let's see if they'll add anything on topic. To be sincere, I am more focused on accuracy about tap to focus than actually full autofocus. If you're looking for sports, as for instance, your scope and needs can go further beyond, of course. I hope the settings may concur anyway. In any case, I'd suggest the mobile app route which can really help gimbal work if not for much fast stuff.

I guess, once more, this also answers for both sides (I've always loved to stay midway : D) -- the title couldn't be better! For those wondering about gimbal work, as already posted before here, take a look on the comments (mobile app suggestion) before to praise the need for automatic-autofocus.

I still believe tap-to-focus is the key to settle down the remaining AF issues, even though, there will surely be a sweet spot for the settings to make it work out, if not always much more than the situations reported.

Really very beautiful... Such sorta cinematic look, even when the highlights are there, go figure... If there was some way to workaround that circle bokeh (anyone there with any suggestion for a filter?) as happens when the subject not in focus only gives the blur without the circle bokeh, that would be a hell of a lens...

    I'd add
    - When you have things at default, the sonys make afc look much better. Panasonic needs to center weight as the default!
    - Try using 1-area af. Panasonic should probably label this as VIDEO FOCUS and have it as default or something for video shooting. That's if their AFC implementation of all the other settings are going to stay as flaky.
    - AFC is mostly flaky in most other settings. This will need firmware support. Why? Because the problem isn't with the hardware. Photos use AF and the GH5 is probably the fastest on the planet. AFC is the camera knowing when to make changes. Saying the AF is bad is missing the point about AFC. A lot of the discussions on youtube conflate afc into af inaccurately.
    - Matt is put down a bit by the commenters. But as I said above, the AF is extremely fast and matt was saying the truth. If you take photos you can see how fast it is. So the trouble is somewhere else in the afc process. At 3:29 iphondo says clearly that the AFS is extremely fast! It is faster for photos and videos. MUCH faster. But the AFC problems are not about speed.
    - A mistake is at 16:28 where the text of the instruction book is misunderstood. Granted the translation is not the best. It is actually just stating that with the two adjustments you can make to the af settings you can actually get them fighting each other if set to extremes in certain environments. It is not saying the AF is bad. iphondo makes this the reason for sending the camera back which is a bit silly.
    - Agree on the battery life, got myself a couple more batteries for 5 now.
    - And with regards to the stabilisation, 1) the x3000 uses the best floating lens-sensor on the market. Put ANY camera up against that please. 2) Weird looking sway for sure. I don't have the 12-35 but I'll try the same camera combo tomorrow. Fun! Hopefully I'll have the camera focussed correctly not at 30cm like in the video. Also going to compare the GX85 at some point.
