    Actually the GH5s had issues because Panasonic couldn't push the full VLog on it, it's highest VFR wasn't exploited, and a few other compromises. The issues is not so much with the sensors as with how it's being programmed (and what levels the dual gain is also set at, among a host of other things).
    Also, the BMPCC 4k and 6k are within 0.2 stops of each other, in terms of base Dynamic Range, and the 4k has much better Dynamic Range at higher ISOs. If this sensor is programmed and wired properly, it should theoretically outperform the Pocket 4k, which is very impressive, to say the least.
    Let's hope Panasonic don't even think of VLog L. Or some other rubbish. Also, we should, hopefully get 4k at atleast 120fps (240fps, if possible), and the 2nd ISO should be set at $6400, so that it can be pushed for even better low light. Would actually love dual Canon and Alexa's dual gain, but it may be too late to incorporate it into the ADC.

    Hope you review is out soon. Looking forward to it. You could release it in installments, starting with initial reviews. Review. And then after perhaps a year.

    Is amazing. I love it. Never going back to RED unless I’m forced to by a client.
    Just thought I would share. The IQ is pristine, colors are great and it’s just a breeze to use. Will post a few stills here in a day or two.

    It is interesting that the top three spots on Andrew's list of the most popular cameras on EOSHD are all M43 cameras.  Yet every day we have new posts bemoaning the impending death of the format.  And here we are posting on a GH6 "rumors" thread that is 27 pages long and has been active for over a year.

    It really feels like the death of M43 if it comes, will be due to a self fulfilling prophecy in the minds of its users and not based in any rational assessment of its adoption or the interest of its userbase.
    If Panasonic does decide to abandon a market that they lead and tries to cram the L-mount down our throat it will be one of the silliest decisions a corporation could make.  But I wont try to predict the future as it wouldn't be the first time corporate heads made a bad call.
    For the last year or so now Panasonic has been pushing adoption of their new full frame camera line and they probably want to give it as much room to breath and grow as possible.  I think with the new release of the S5, they'll also want to give it some time for new adopters to buy in before they release any news about a GH5 replacement.   At least that is what makes the most sense to me, but I do agree the lack of guidance from them and full support of the format a bit worrisome.  For example, the EVA1 really should have been M43 with maybe a bundled EF adapter or an interchangeable mount-- that alone may have given their user base more confidence in its future.  It is also too bad that the L-mount and M43 have such similar flange distances that an adapter between the two is probably not in the cards.
    That said M43 is still my favorite ecosystem and format and none of the full frame cameras have really pulled me away due to some combination of rolling shutter, cropped video, heat issues, or just the size of the bodies and lenses.  The A7S III looks the most promising to me, but I'm still not entirely sold on the need to move to full frame due to weight/size of the lenses and the shallow depth of field that I mostly consider a negative for video.
    Anyway, It would be sad to see Panasonic walk away from a mount that arguably has one of the most diverse ecosystems of lenses and adapters on the market.  Hopefully, we'll get some good news soon from Panasonic after they have given the S5 some time to sell through.

    The GX85 is really a superb camera. Panasonic should have just thrown in a mic jack.
    Interestingly the OM1D Mark ii has better low light capabilities, for slightly lower dynamic range at the lowest ISO. Panasonic didn't set the ISO levels well for the GH5. Plus, obviously the fact that it lacks Dual ISO.
    The BMD cameras are great for what they do. Only if they  could be slightly more reliable and usable, out of the box. The lack of IBIS and good autofocus could easily be forgiven for them.

    I hope the larger battery is used for Dual Gain processing.

    This is as good a read on this as any.

    "Nevertheless, real world IQ differences (including total image noise) will inevitably occur in practice even when equivalent photos are taken. These will arise due to differences in the underlying camera and lens technology, such as:
    • sensor quantum efficiency;
    • read noise;
    • sensor pixel count;
    • lens aberrations;
    • JPEG tone curve; and
    • image processing.
    In other words, since the total light received by each format is the same when equivalent photos are taken, it is factors such as those above that explain real-world cross-format IQ differences rather than format size. These factors will be discussed further in Sec. 4."

    Suddenly the Canon C70 makes one imagine whether Panasonic should feature their next M43 with a dual gain sensor, to ensure greater dynamic range. Also, dual mini xlr, internal ND, among other features would be a great feature set.
    I find no reason why the next GH can be a cinematic powerhouse.

    Well said. PDAF or Laser+ToF autofocus can't be that expensive. Unless Sony is afraid the PDAF is going to destroy their market dominance, so it can not be acquired, regardless.

    Fair enough. I guess a lot of us were on the fence, wrt assuming whether the GH6 was coming or not. Panasonic could solely be blamed, due to the deafening silence, and pushing 4 Full Frame models, without a word on the GH6. Now that they have said, categorically, that the GH6 is definitely not abandoned, we should convince ourselves to believe them. Even if Olympus wasn't as believable.
    Maybe the GH6 will usher in the next generation of autofocus, that Panasonic so badly needs. Along with a few other features.

    IMHO the problem is that Sony isn't using specialised image sensors for this, and trying to expect cinema quality video from it. They should have used 1/1.33 sensors with a 12MP sensor count on this, and much better HDR algorithms. All the sensors should have been the same or similar sized, to ensure similar dynamic range and processing. So much great software limited by the hardware.
    They should have aimed to beat the iPhone 11 at dynamic range and image quality, and by a noticeable margin. This doesn't beat that, or come close.

    Maybe it's just marketing.
    The FF enthusiasts / myopians will look at this and have their confirmation bias renewed and will be left with the impression that Panasonic understands them, sees FF as being the superior sensor size ordained directly by God, and that Panasonic is the brand to get.
    The MFT enthusiasts will look at this, be encouraged by the frame-rates and remember the track record of the GH line, and hold their opinions for when we see the IQ.
    Then the GH6 can be released and the MFT enthusiasts will see that the IQ is excellent.  The FF myopians won't even look at "toy camera" reviews and will be none the wiser.
    ....and everyone gets what they want and Panasonic lived happily ever after.

    I couldn't believe what I saw. Olympus doesn't have 10-bit internal, and yet they jump to ProRed RAW via HDMI directly? Wow. Seems almost surrealistic. Now sure how most people would see this as something huge. Hopefully Olympus camera prices crash some more, before the RAW is released.

    Hahaha. Their tests always have people reaching for their swords.
    I liked this comment in particular, from their comments section.
    "Lars Gafpa Gear
    @gunther we executed internally the same ima test and it looks similar. Basically a 12 adc sensor can never deliver more than around 11.5 in s/n 2. Unless they use heavy nr. These are the facts. These are all imx 12 bit video mode adc sensors. Dome may look better due to heavy nr. Only varicam etc have 14 bit adc or alrxa which crossconverts two pixels simultaneously. Therefor i doubt ima test says a lot. I mean one can het a bit higher rating towards the maximum patch range by doing nr. But its ugly bit right now no mirror less cameras have 14 bit adc. Same goes for komodo. Maximum 11 stops. Still fun for a global shutter camera and ofc uses backed in highkight retention to get dr higher etc and some other tricks. I love the ima test of cined they demystify a bit all the lies. It shows that over the last 10 years no big inventions were made on a sensor level. Onoy invention is fake news."

    Incidentally, tests such as these, and all tests in general, also highlight how fallable dynamic range tests and company numbers really are, and that experts are grossly overrated and over paid idiots, with years of senseless experience. Also, most importantly, that the more famous an expert is, the bigger a jackass he is likely to be, and the more likely he tries to fool everyone, and is as consumed by his own BS, as the ones he attempts to fool. Somewhere the whole line of distinction is blurred.
