I really like how Panasonic is giving us things like this.    Thank you Panasonic.  Seriously.

With the new firmware 2.0 update, the Panasonic GH5 becomes the first 5K 10bit H.265 mirrorless camera, and you don't even need an anamorphic lens to join the party.

We just completed a 3hr/3part documentary here at work using Resolve.  It's definitely up to the job now.   There are still some issues, but overall it's there.

Panasonic's color is now extremely close to Canon if you like the Canon look.  It's much harder to get Sonys to look like Canon.    I wouldn't hesitate to use a C200 and GH5 on the same shoot.

I noticed something else as well.  What's with this DR graphic.
In this picture they try to paint the Panasonic as having lower DR than the Fuji,  but when you put them side by side that are almost exactly the same.  I find this lame at best.

I completely fail to see this. A GH4 is vastly preferable to use than a Canon DSLR.
Strongly suspect that the massive majority of preferences for Canon's so called "ergonomics" is just to the *huge* number of ex (or current) Canon shooters, thus saying "ergonomics" is just a code word for "familiar". There is nothing truly great about Canon's DSLR ergonomics for filming with, it is just "what we are used to" (personally I'd rather take a Nikon for stills!).

The gains very very dramatic if using V-Log.

Now 43rumors is saying the G80 will have 4:2:2 8bit while the GH5 has the previously announced 4:2:2 10bit.       Looks like a nice A/B cam duo to me.

yep, battery life sucks with IBIS.     As far as stills,  the AF is great on the GH4 and the Image Quality is fantastic.    If you take bad pictures with the GH4 it's your fault, not the camera.    Is it perfect? of course not, no camera is.

I just hope they also implement
    IBiS 5axis (metabones compatible)
    120fps 1080p
    v-log (lut preview)
    PREORDER RIGHT NOW!!!

it'll have IBIS,  this is their flagship camera,   IBIS and their Dual OIS feature is on lower end cameras and it's a must on their best.

Sounds like it'll do 6k in bursts at 30fps.   That's fine by me,  I'm most interested in 10bit 4k internal.    Give me slightly better DR and 1 more stop in low light I'm good to go.  (the time between the GH4 and now should manage that with ease.

    6K, 4K - don't really care to be honest.

Give me 1080P 10bit internal at 48/50/60FPS (minimum), V-Log, 5-Axis IBIS, for $1200USD and you have my money.
But then again, the Blackmagic Micro covers all that (except the IBIS). The GH5 (assuming it has GH4 form-factor) would definitely win the ergonomics battle, however...

JPEG can even be 12 bit if you have a look at the standard. But seeing how most displays are blah, I see why we're stuck with the 8bit implementations.

A full readout of the sensor, no matter the resolution at 4x3 would make one heck of a tasty anamorphic camera.

I'm not sure jpg has a 10bit mode, but what I do is grab sills from video,  if the video is 10bit than the stills can be 10 bit.

Talking about sensor, there were an old rumour about that here :
    http://www.43rumors.com/ft3-new-panasonic-gh5-sensor-is-made-by-sony/
“Sony has an 18.9mm*13mm M43 sensor designed for Panasonic that could be used in GH5. Very high-end, 24 channel super fast readout speed that BIONZX could not keep up with. Only Panasonic can fully unleash the potential of this chip right now.”

    Hahahahahahahaha.
See, even the GH4 seriously outsold Panasonic's expected numbers, and thus production had to be seriously ramped up.
If Canon makes $100 on the C100 in net profits, then probably Panasonic makes $500 on GH4 (these numbers were obviously Very different, initially). But the GH4 probably sold like 50-100 times as much as he C100. So, in the end the pricing isn't governed by anything except net profits.
That is why field monitors cost so much more than Smartphones, despite the kind of features and technology found on each device.
At $2500 the GH5 can make a killing for a 4k 4-2-2 device, if it can attract a certain minimum numbers of people, who will primarily use it for stills. The DSLR/DSLM filmmaking community is still a very small proportion of the DSLR/DSLM buyers, and therefore its photography features would be a huge governing factor for its sales figures.

If 10bit 4K internal comes in the GH5 (as we are now expecting) then Panasonic has won the game of camera wars for this round.

Panasonic was first mirrorless/DSLR with 10bit external before anybody else, now it looks like Panasonic will be first with 10bit internal before anyone else had even caught up and offered 10bit external aside from Panasonic!!
