I wouldn't buy a FS700 even for 1600$, the two I was using the last few years are -literally- fallen apart, the build quality is terrible, there is NO handling whatsoever, ergonomics are Sony's best (worst) job. I do still use it from time to time for slow mo, ok, but I would never buy this camera with my money. The one we use most was given to us (to the production company, not me) when we started a motor show a few years ago (together with some lenses, much obliged!), but they never stick. One of the reasons (and some other terrible Sony experiences I had through the years) I am so disrespectful to Sony, and not sold 100% yet to FS5.
You do not have to have an easy ride, you should have a constructive and productive career; our job is enough complicated and "difficult" as it is, without added burdens.

Actually I am selling my F65 as well.  I'm putting the money into my wife's film I'm shooting.
Yes, it's not universal what one person would like vs another person.  Rent a bunch, do a test, and get the one that you like the most, and you find the most valuable for your needs.

Has BMD addressed the magenta cast, corners and fpn even at 800 iso? If so, this camera looks like a beast for the price.

There's no confusion here. You bought a 54 thinking you can make a massive money on it so you had to post it everywhere. You do this all the time man, kept double posting everything you had now you do triples. Nice going, but please skip the "I am an anamorphic loonie like you" pick up line, it sounds slimy.

I was expecting this and I think it is a major mistake to release the GH5 without the 400Mbps update. First impressions mean a lot and everyone is eager to read the early reviews. Once people see "10bit GH5 worth nothing" a few times it will be hard to make them forget it half a year later even if the new firmware brings a completely new experience. Think of the Ursa Mini 4.6K and how bad the first batch was. Rental houses even state it's not suitable for professional work even today..

Many people have a good point here and I really couldn't see the Mini Pro coming, but I reckon they positioned it to became their flagship halfblood cam, emptied the whole fridge into the pan to make it jack of all trades now and I doubt it would jeopardize their lower end line.
The Pocket complemented the big URSA, the Micro did the same with the URSA Mini and I doupt their latest top of the range shoulder blaster will stay without a cute melee weapon for too long.
Also they still sell every piece of gear they made so far, even their first cinema camera is still available to buy brand new. They are patching every hole in the market with almost a half grand precision.

Well to be fair, you wouldn't cut a piece of wood with a drill would you? So why shoot a 4 hour performance with a Pocket Cam?

"Since the BMCC and Pocket Cinema Camera however they have only focussed on pros."
Most of the amateurs will be happy with whatever Panasonic offers for 600euros while those Panasonic's are plug and play and the footage appears without much hassle on their brand new shiny 65" 4K TVs.
Video companies are becoming more specialized because not a lot of people will be buying exotic video cameras with additional equipment to run, and not amateur friendly codecs; and the worst part is that they are NOT taking photos. How many are these specialized amateurs that will create a buying buzz (and absorb the R&D and marketing funds) for a completely new video camera?
My impression was that pocket was good for a lot of indie people (I have seen a few around Europe) but never was the "pocket" camera its name promised.
I am editing a project with the pocket right now, the whole rig was huge, the second -huge- battery didn't work and my friend lost the last 40 minutes of the performance we were recording and the video files were unnecessary big for such a low budgeted project (80GB for the pocket, and 60GB for the NX cameras with at least 40 minutes additional footage!) and the other cameras we had were around 40-50GB.
Great image, but it was somehow out of place in my opinion. Great idea, poorly manufactured.
If they can really make it a great portable pocket camera, then I will reconsider!
This Ursa is the most interesting camera they ever produced, and the fact that it is available right now is a statement that this time they are really serious.

The challenge with *nix is there are so many flavors (versions).  Ubuntu and relatives are perhaps the mostly popular right now... What we do as software developers is download the source code for tools/apps and build for the specific version of *nix that we are using (this too can be a pain and time burner). This is great for back-end server products but not front end user-facing products. This would not be possible for mass-market commercial software like Adobe. The other challenge is UI development tools on Linux are currently very weak. Just debugging code on Linux with an IDE is currently very very weak. XCode on OSX and Visual Studio on Windows are still light years ahead of anything on Linux (Microsoft has released Code for Linux, but mostly for webapp development (not C/C++ which is needed for native apps)).
Working on Linux feels like working on a Model T vs. Porsche or Ferrari on OSX and Windows respectively (Windows still has the best developer tools, by far). C++ Builder used to run on Linux, however support was dropped: https://www.embarcadero.com/products/cbuilder . This is an incredible cross-platform toolset for C++ development. They could bring it back to Linux if there was a market. The challenge with Linux is most desktop Linux users don't pay for anything, and want everything for free (and/or pirate software). Until or if major software vendors can work out a model that works for Linux users (can't be totally free), don't expect any major products to be ported to Linux. AutoDesk and Blackmagic do support Linux, however that's for very vertical market applications (renderfarms are a good use for Linux, and having many seats in a (e.g. one-off movie) production environment where the OS is free can make financial sense).
I switch between OSX and Windows 10 frequently. Instead of dual-booting my 'old' 2010 12-core + GTX 980ti anymore, I built a brand new 10-core box (6950X) + GTX 1080 which I was going to make into a Hackintosh. After getting it running with Windows 10, I was so impressed with the superior font rendering, snappier GUI response, and ability to display a 4K desktop vs. OSX, as well as superior 4K editing performance and less crashes (really an NVidia driver issue- it is what it is), I dropped the idea of putting OSX on it. I use a special USB switch to switch keyboard and mouse input, and use the 2 4K Dell display's multiple inputs to switch between OSX and Windows 10 without having to reboot. Works really well in production.
I still use MacBook Pros running OSX, however modern software such as vMIX (for live streaming with efficient GPU acceleration) only run on Windows (not really enough space on the internal SSD to run Bootcamp at this point. It is possible to install Bootcamp on an external drive with a bit of effort (easiest with Thunderbolt, a bit more work with USB3), see YouTube for some examples).

Ehh, what Sony forgets to mention in the headline grabbing campaign is that the card is still V30 meaning the minimum sequential write speed can easily drop to 30MB/s. Even the upcoming GH5 400Mbps firmware will need V60 at least and that's far from raw. At the moment only Delkin makes V90 cards, offering a 90MB/s minimum speed.

From reading about cards when trying to shoot raw on the pocket, I think minimum speed is often the bottleneck. Many have a fast enough max speed, but dropping below the minimum even for a moment is bad news.

I have been using windows for exactly 20 years now, and the secret is I believe to get a monster hardware under it. Especially because of that I would never judge OS performance if it runs on a laptop. They have all sorts of crazy resource management solutions built into them, thermal throttling, shit bios etc. Who knows what trickery they had to employ to get that 18mm thick Razor Blade 1 degree cooler than lava..

Neither could I, but there it is.  Randomly.  Rather annoying.  Not the biggest problem in the world, but when you're at the desk for months on end, that time adds up.  Who knows what it is?
Indeed.  Same hardware all around except the integrated sound card, so you just bypass that with an external.  You can literally buy the same components, just half the price and then you also allow yourself upgrade room.
When I got my latest PC a half year ago, it was specifically for Premiere and to have a machine that would push the numbers, which it does.  I really wanted to like and embrace the setup.  But the fact that I can edit faster and easier on a 9 year old iMac literally using the same projects, that's enough for me to switch back to OSX.
Too bad too.  The first short film I edited on a consumer non-linear editing system was a simple comedy skit I did back in 1994.  It was a PC and Premiere must have been version 1.5 or something.  3 years later I used Premiere for a local TV series.  A few years after that, my first 16mm film was cut on Premiere and a PC.
But when FinalCut came out.  Forget it.  The integrated system, great hardware, and commitment of Apple to the product made it a no-brainer.  When things went wrong with FCP, you could figure out a real answer back then.  With Premiere, it was a crap shoot.  The hardware variables were maddening.  Trying to figure out deep BIOS settings, IRQ address numbers, manual OS registry editing; it was all computer sciency-bull shit to try and get all the components and software to play nice.  It was a time suck rabbit hole.  No thank you.
On the other hand, the DIY nature of PC builds is kind of fun...
Now with hackintosh, everything old is new again.
