The NX500 has been announced and it features the same sensor and 4K codec as the NX1, but for half the price. If the NX500’s image performs the same as the NX1 then this will be the best overall video quality you can get for the price.
Canon’s next step on the entry level Rebel / XXXD series is about to arrive and it will be interesting to see the video specs now Panasonic are doing sub-$1000 entry level 4K with the LX100 and FZ1000. This time Canon are releasing two models – the 750D and a 760D, with the difference seeming to be the addition of a 70D-like top LCD panel on the 760D.
More detailed specs for the E-M5 II have come out ahead of it’s launch on Thursday 5th February. The video mode is much improved, although it doesn’t shoot 4K.
Canon Rumors suggests the 5Ds records 1080/30p (translated from the Japanese source at DCI). Looks like we will have to place our hope in the 5D Mark IV and a continued reduction in 1D C prices on eBay to get 4K from Canon anywhere near in line with the pricing of competitors.
