Exclusive – Future iPhones to feature global shutter, liquid lens and optical zoom

The Taiwanese manufacturer of the iPhone 4’s camera, Omnivision, are producing a small sensor that features a global shutter.

Sony meanwhile have patented new type of lens with liquid elements which vary in shape depending on an electrical charge being applied. This makes possible ultra tiny optical zoom lenses.

Panasonic push 3D lens onto GH1 / future GH2 owners

2D is dead long live 2D pop-up-book-o-vision.

Panasonic have announced in Japan that they’re developing a pancake proportioned 3D lens for the Micro 4/3rds system, which will be compatible with existing cameras like the GH1 with a firmware update. Presumably the GH2 will be compatible out of the box. Tokyo based Akihabara News was at the press conference and have more images of a frankly laughable prototype, which has the ‘3D’ and ‘Lumix’ stuck to the front as plastic stickers.

Vitaliy Kiselev moving closer to GH1 live HDMI output?

‘Tester13’ has identified the sensor modes and parameters related to the HDMI output of the GH1 with an aim to enable live output for monitoring simultaneously while recording, or even uncompressed HD signal for recording footage on an external device (such as Nanonflash, above).
