The Canon 7D is shaping up nicely for raw video, with image quality that makes a pretty grave for H.264.
I shot with the Canon 1D C and Canon C100 Cinema EOS cameras recently with SlashCam in Berlin. The 1D C is the most Jekyll and Hyde camera I’ve ever used and a difficult camera to review. The 1D C is a marriage of beautiful 4K images and an unwilling partner who hasn’t shifted an inch to accommodate it.
Could this be the moment Panasonic finally get the wider acceptance they deserve for the GH line?
Here’s the first promotional short movie shot on the Panasonic GH3 by Philip Bloom.
Above: my first go at grading the Blackmagic Cinema Camera raw output
John Brawley and Blackmagic Design today released the first raw DNG files from the camera.
Here’s my take on how the raw camera stands up.
Please note the compression and noise is from Vimeo not the camera
John Brawley has some new Blackmagic footage for us. Unfortunately Vimeo streams 1080p at something like 7Mbit and John has no download option on this clip, so watching Blackmagic footage when it is so heavily compressed rather defeats the object of such a lovely 12bit raw camera.
Nevertheless dynamic range and resolution are looking pretty good.
