Canon to follow Nikon and offer external RAW recording on EOS R via HDMI

Convincing rumours are doing the rounds in the filmmaking community, thanks to a slip by Canon USA on Twitter. The official account offered a poll asking whether followers would like to learn more about Canon EOS R external RAW recording at NAB, or the C200’s existing RAW Light codec.

Download my 4K HDR 10bit H.265 videos shot with the Panasonic S1 firmware V1.0

The 4K full frame S1 is on my desk at EOSHD HQ and for the first time it’s the final released camera that is shipping to stores, with firmware version 1.0. I couldn’t offer any original files from my shoot in Barcelona as the firmware back then was version 0.7. So now’s your chance, if you’re wondering how good the initial 10bit codec is at just 72Mbit or how well it grades, to download my files and have a look for yourself…

Panasonic S1 4K 10bit video mode to be present at launch with Hybrid LOG Gamma

Overlooked in the first articles about this camera is the 4K H.265 mode of the Panasonic S1. Similar to the Fuji X-T3, this will allow 10bit internal recording in HEVC with launch firmware version 1.0 – no need to wait for the paid 10bit update.

3840 x 2160 is available in 10bit at 24p, 25p and 30p with no crop – it is full frame.

The later paid update is for a higher bitrate 10bit 4:2:2 mode and V-LOG, but in the meantime 10bit H.265 provides the silky smooth colour of 10bit with HDR and much smaller file sizes.

Photokina 2018 Part 1: Panasonic S1 and S1R full frame 4K/60p and Fujifilm GFX 100MP 4K Medium Format. WOW!

This will be a short part 1, as I am about to get on my way from Berlin to Cologne to see all the new stuff at Photokina for myself! It’s been a mammoth few weeks for camera announcements and these two top them all.

First from Panasonic we have the first ever full frame cameras to shoot 4K/60p, beating Sony to the punch. Their A7S III is STILL not yet announced. The Panasonic S1 and S1R are probably why! For video they beat every full frame camera past, present and future!

Second we have the Fujifilm GFX 100MP development announcement, which will be a 2019 $10,000 medium format mirrorless camera. They also have a cheaper 50R “rangefinder” style GFX body at the show ($4500) but that is 1080p only like the GFX 50S it’s based on. It is the 100 megapixel one I am really interested in.
