JulioD got a reaction from ac6000cw in The China Syndrome (1979): What film camera did Micheal Douglas' character use?
    CP16.
Cinema Products brand…who were also making this new gadget called a Steadicam that’s about to be 50 years old.
It was a common news film camera.  They also had mag film where the sound was recorded directly onto a mag stripe on the film itself.  It wasn’t as good as the open reel recorder of course.

I used one on my first short movie.  It feels very cheap and lightweight but it was a staple.

Yeah that's my understanding too, with the ethernet connection.  Why else do a 10G on the camera I guess?

Well I’m assuming a DIT on a three camera shoot will appreciate it.

pretty sure they are doing a CFe dual card magazine too.

JulioD got a reaction from 92F in 24p is outdated
    Fascinating.

Super wealthy hobbyists who make fancy home movies think 24p doesn’t look like cinema having never actually made anything with actors or working with a crew and using their family as their evidence of audience approval.
Little to no understanding of the difference between acquisition frame rate and distribution or display refresh rate in multiple environments or global territories but still drawing conclusions.

So many experts one one place. How lucky we all are.

8 bit 420 can be just fine as long as you don’t want to do anything to it later grade wise.

As long as you’re happy with what comes out of the camera then you won’t SEE much of a difference.

you will definitely SEE the difference between 8bit and 10bit if you try to match two cameras that look different of if the WB is off or has some lighting hue you don’t like.

Basically anytime you want to grade or manipulate the image it is very brittle and won’t handle much correction. 10 bit will.

They have a corrosive culture that comes from him as a founder.  Having him return after doing some token penalty time is farcical.

What has changed since he left? Nothing.

Meanwhile their stock is still not trading because of serious (criminal?) accounting issues where they lied about sales volumes.

The whistleblower was fired for raising it and that case is still going.

It’s just not how it works.  Sony semi sells and DESIGNS sensors.  They don’t hold back tech from any customer who is willing to pay.  They also do business with Sony direct competitors.

They all co-operate a lot more than us consumers realise
Think of them as a seperate company to Sony cameras.

RED extended the patent. This is a common technique used by pharma companies to extend the IP protection.

No way is Nikon making a Burano type camera.

Nothing will change at either company.

A few years from now RED fold from stagnation or gets bought back by the owners and re-launches.

No it’s not well respected by post.  Thats myth.  I’m going to guess you aren’t in post at a high end facility.  Nobody I’ve met likes or prefers REDCODE over other raw codecs.
Owner operators who own red cameras are the only ones who talk like this.
It’s a high bit depth raw codec and that’s all it has going for it.  It’s actually not that efficient.  ProRes plays back faster. ProRes RAW plays back faster.  BRAW plays back faster.  Why do you think they sold stupid things like RedRocket?
Most high end post output of RED didn’t use REDs own cards for final render because the debayer looked better with the internal decodes of the native app.
It was the first conceptually raw codec(maybe depends what you think of Cineform) but it’s not efficient at all in playback.  Thats why they moved to DCT. As the resolution went up, playback gets harder and harder with Wavelet.

There is nothing special about REDCODE.  It was sold for a long time as some special mojo.
It not even wavelet anymore.  It’s been DCT based since Komodo.  Like ProRes and BRAW.
They will keep N-RAW because it’s their own “brand” and now they own the IP.  It’s not like REDCODE is better.  It’s all the same. They don’t need REDCODE and they don’t need to licence it either.

Now nikon gets to be the patent troll. Red will probably get to pretend to remain a company for 2 years and then nikon will probably fire the entire workforce, and we get to hear about “the constantly changing landscape of media” in some press release justifying the gutting of the company.

Having worked in Atlanta and for Perry, I’d suggest the “reason” is a convenient excuse.

Production was already heading towards a slump BEFORE the recent strike and is staring down the barrel of another strike.

All of the streamers are struggling to make money.  They are green lighting less content.

I was talking to an LA based Panavision sales rep a couple of days ago and they they said for them production was about 15-20% of what it was 18 months ago.

Production has slumped.  Strikes have and continue to menace.  Not a good time to throw down on a studio.  AI was more like the icing on the cake.  Perry is just blaming this on a decision he would have made anyway.

The AF, the IBIS are remarkable advances when we do reporting... When we do cinema,  a tripod, a crane, manual focus are widely used

How much do you know about South Korean culture?
There are many things that promote such things in that culture that are not present in other cultures, or are present to a much less significant degree.
    Seems like a convenient subsample.
90% of the daily users of a platform specifically targeted at people who want to post photos for other people to see.
200 Million is 2.4% of the worlds population.  I'd be amazed if 90% of the top 2.4% of the worlds most vain people didn't use it either.
    Another convenient subsample.
If you're putting posing for photos or smiling into the lying category then I can tell you're either trolling or you're on some serious drugs.
The people on Tinder / IG / etc are one of these vanity collections again, like if you surveyed everyone at a Miss World competition and concluded that everyone uses 450g of makeup per day.
An AI video is a video where:
no pixel was ever directly recorded from real-life there is no way to go back to the source because there was unknowable amounts of training data and limited input data (these mysterious GoPros scattered around) there is no way to know how the training data was processed there is no way to know how the AI works I think we're a tad beyond sucking in your guy when someone pulls out their phone to take a snapshot.
On a more general note, I occasionally read members of the forums writing that the world is going down the drain due to one social trend or other, and I just roll my eyes and wonder what the hell they are looking at online.  I mean, when you open a browser you don't see anything until you search for that thing, so the things that people say about the world are really just a reflection of what they have somehow become fixated on and have let it distort their world view.
