The upcoming RAW update, the sensor, the touch to track AF update, the codecs, etc. finally sold it for me. I went ahead and ordered it to replace my C200 for long form content.  I will also get to see once and for all how well handheld works with just lens and digital stabilization.

@herein2020 I think you're looking at this the wrong way.  Even if right now Canon only has FF RF lenses, I am pretty sure they will soon develop S35 cine glass as they are phasing out EF mount in favor of RF. Besides you already have a growing list of third-party S35 cine lenses in RF mount:
    https://filmdaft.com/rf-mount-lenses-cinema-list/
The BIG attraction of the RF mount is also that it opens up all types of lens adaptation choices, not just EF, and with speed boosting it gives you the FF FoV option. It's best of both worlds. Especially if you compare the C70 to its biggest competitor FX6 that can only do FF 4K.
Another big plus of the C70's S35 sensor is it is the DGO sensor from the $11K C300 mk2, whereas the FX6 FF sensor is the same as the $3.5K A7S3.
A FF "C50" could be in the works but would probably utilize the FF sensor from R5/R6/R3. Of which you'll never get the DR benefits of the DGO sensor.
And if Canon develop a FF DGO sensor, you can be certain that will be for a flagship C500 mk3, not an entry-level C50.
With Canon RAW coming to the C70 I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to it from C200.
I loved the C200 body & build-quality but the 8-bit compressed mp4 IQ was pretty awful and CRL files not compressed enough. Result was it gathered dust while I always favored FS7, BMD Raw or 10-bit mirrorless bodies.
C70 just seems to me like the perfect compromise with a chunky compact DSLR form-factor but with ND's, I/Os on the body, RF mount with speed booster, CRL LT option, affordable SD media with 10-bit proxies on RAW and the mighty DGO sensor.
The FX6 is also very tempting despite the $6K price tag for alpha line sensor and no 4K S35 mode.

I also use all Godox. I use the Canon version and they worked just fine with the S5. I only use all manual settings though so I do not know if the TTL features work with the S5 and the Canon Godox flashes.
I only use my S5 for video so I only briefly tested the flash functions, but they all worked with my current setup. I have almost every flash Godox makes including the V860's (on camera or off camera wireless flashes), the AD360 (off camera) the AD600 (my favorite and most used flashes for off camera fashion and studio work), and Godox QS 1200's for studio work. I trigger them all with the Godox Xpro-C (Canon version) wireless trigger.
Keep in mind that if you are going all in on Panasonic that the S5 has a builtin wireless flash radio system that I think can control up to 4 flashes natively, so if that's important to you then you may want to look into lumix or Olympus flashes. I have too much invested in Godox to turn back now and I would rather use a hot shoe mounted trigger vs digging through menus when I need to change flash settings, but I know a lot of people probably don't know the S5 has this capability.
I also recommend that for any flash you buy that you verify that it has a wireless receiver, I shoot about 95% off camera and wireless is critical for that.  I do love my V860's though, I can throw them on a light stand and shoot everything from real estate to weddings, then put them on camera when I need to run around a venue at an event.

Who the hell even has a 8k display to view it on, maybe a few in Japan but... But sure for visual effects why not. I really can't imagine any woman in the world wanting a closeup of them in 8k.

When the Canon R5 overheating fiasco happened I was the first one on that site to really tell it like it was. I wasted many hours getting into endless debates with the Canon fanboys on that site who swore the overheating wasn't a big deal and wouldn't affect the camera's useability. I kept everything respectful, simply stated my opinion and basically said the camera would be completely useless for even light professional work (which turned out to be right in a big way), and Craig banned me for it and labelled my account a troll.

Ok, so I couldn't just keep sitting here thinking the R6 might work for what I need and the C70 was overkill so I came up with the perfect plan that ended up with me owning an R6. I have the C70 on pre-order but it won't ship until Nov. The R6 was available at a local retailer and the retailer lets you return the R6 for up to 30 days after purchase with a 15% restocking fee. So this sounds perfect to me, I get to "rent" the R6 for a fraction of the price of a normal rental house for 29 days which gives me time to cancel my C70 pre-order if the R6 is perfect for my needs, or I can take it back before the 30 days is up and still be on the list for the C70.
Anyway, I've now had it less than 4 hours and there are already some things I don't like about it that I thought I would be able to live with, and some other surprises that no one on YouTube mentioned
Overheating - yes it really is a thing. It was 78F today and the remaining available time on the timer hovered around the 10min mark for most of the day.  I was doing a lot in the menus, taking a few images, and shooting a few clips and had had it set to CLOG and 4K60FPS which is my normal shooting setup on the GH5. I never hit the overheating limit but staring at the timer completely ruined the shooting experience for me.  I can't imagine being on a paid shoot and all I can think about is if it will overheat. It shipped with FW version 1.1.0 and I upgraded it to version 1.1.1 after shooting during the day so I will test some more over the weekend to see if it gets any better. For everything I liked about the camera, the overheating was just this huge problem that overshadowed the whole experience. Electronic Level - I am a bit of a fanatic about having a perfectly level horizon so I didn't think anything of it when the electronic level came on in video mode as expected. What I truly can't understand however is why it turns off when you start recording. This completely blew my mind.....while recording is the main time I need to know if it is staying level.  Also, a lot of other useful information leaves the screen as well. I like to verify right after pressing the record button that all of the settings are set properly....well a lot of them disappear from the screen while recording, things like frame rate, color space, etc...things I like to glance at while recording in live view. XLR Audio - I tried to tell myself this wasn't that big of a deal but I literally have a weekend of shoots lined up and all of them require audio. I'm already trying to think how I will handle it for the weekend. With the GH5 I just throw on the adapter, put a wireless lav on the client and we are set.  Editing - Just like everyone else stated, editing these files are a nightmare. You will need to transcode. I have a 14 core CPU, RTX2080Ti video card, Davinci Resolve Studio, and NVME storage....doesn't matter, DR couldn't play the files until I created proxies. Dedicated Buttons - I found myself really missing the dedicated ISO button from my 5DIV and especially the MF switch on the lens. I know you can remap buttons but I don't like doing that, I like to keep everything default and use the Favorites menu. I also miss the flip switch that immediately got you into video mode or photo mode on the 5DIV instead of rotating the dial past all of the other presets that I'll never use. Build Quality - The build quality is also lower than I expected. I expected it to be on par with the GH5.......its not, let alone the 5DIV. For the price I paid the build quality is a disappointment. The video image quality does look amazing, I'm sure I didn't expose properly and I didn't have a Canon CLOG to REC709 LUT so I did some quick hand grading; oh and I had the crappy RF 24-105 F4-F7.1 kit lens, but what came out of the camera despite all of this was nothing short of incredible.  I also took some quick images with it and of course they were what I expected from a 1DX sensor, so no complaints there. Speaking of photography that side of the house is rock solid. No complaints there, and thanks to this camera I am finally sold on using an EVF for photography. The EOS R had noticeable lag when panning and just didn't look right to me; the R6's EVF had no noticeable lag and felt a lot more natural.
I truly do not know what I will do yet,  I can say without hesitation that with my very limited testing the R6's video quality blows the GH5 out of the water....but there's so many compromises in so many other areas especially with the overheating that I don't know if it is worth it.  Lets not even talk about the fact that it does not do dual slot video recording and still has a 30min recording limit. It also seems like even after all of the discussions about overheating I still don't understand....from a cold start the R6 only shows 15min of recording time for 4K60FPS. I did test it and the overheat warning came on at 20min but it kept going until it hit the 30min mark. After turning it back on it refused to let me start recording again and did not return to 15min available until about an hr later.

Here was my impressions of the R6 after a day of using it. Admittedly, a lot of FW has come out since then so it's possible the overheating issue isn't as bad as when I wrote that post.
The crop is pretty annoying for real estate, so FF would be a nice change, but I've heard that Canon's IBIS is not good at all with wide lenses and possibly not even good on a gimbal as well with wide lenses so there's that. I haven't tested or seen this first hand.
Maybe renting the R6 prior to deciding would be a good idea, I'd assume a 3 or 7 day rental of the R6 wouldn't be too expensive.

I am equally shocked that the "g" word was ever mentioned by you 🙂. I will admit I went through the full gambit, started out on a tripod (real estate work), moved to a monopod (events), discovered gimbals (tried to shoot everything on them), then got fed up with how fiddly they are and with the IBIS being so good I now love handheld.
The S5 is so steady that I add camera movement just to add back some motion to the footage. Mind you, that's for standing only or taking one or two steps at most; anything more than that and I suffer through the gimbal rigging and setup.
I absolutely hated the R6 for anything video related but that's just me.  For short un-complicated gimbal work it could be a good solution though. If you can, I'd try to go to a local retailer and hold one and play with the menus a bit in the store. Unfortunately, you can't find all of the problems that way, but the R6 is really cheap feeling in the hands. The grip is great but the material is several notches below the S5 IMO.
With the Sony, would you need to buy Sony lenses to use the CAF?

Well you know the best answer to that right now is the R5C.....IF you can hand hold without IBIS which for me remains to be seen. Of course there's always the Sony camp as well.
I don't think you will find a good solution with any Panasonic camera. I do make mine work with people though, I've shot weddings and plenty of events with my S5.......you just have to be prepared to throw away whatever you can't keep in focus.

I have the same access as any/everyone...
It used to be (6 years ago), I lived in the UK and travelled to Europe or beyond.
These days I live in France and mostly get booked for France, but do still get jobs outside of such as this year, I have clients for weddings in Germany and Switzerland.
I only have enough gear to do the job, nothing surplus.
Actually, having said that, I do have a Sigma 45mm f2.8 I received for free when I bought the S5. I have used it a couple of times but it just does not fit in with anything now I have finalised my 2022 kit.
I also have Panny's own 85mm f1.8 and again, have used it, but it doesn't fit it in anywhere. Currently, I am keeping it for the few times I get stuck at the back of a church and need something longer than the 65mm f2. I may switch this out for the Sigma 90mm f2 at some point just to keep the consistency of an all Sigma lens lineup.
I just need this season to get going in early April so I can actually crack on with everything I had planned back in 2019!
2018 was the first year I felt I had really cracked hybrid coverage, but still had a huge amount of refinement and polishing to do.
I thought I'd cracked that in the 2019 season, but ended up somewhat frustrated when I realised I was still well short in so many areas.
2020 was going to be 'The Year', but it turned out to be 'The Year That Wasn't' apart from one solitary, compromised wedding.
2021... Nah, really limited and just could not get any momentum.
2022 is going to be the year 😉

I use a V-Mount battery into a USB-A to USB-C cable, it works fantastic, I can shoot 6hr events without having to worry about the battery. Below is a picture of my long form setup. Click here for my other setups and parts list.

I have given up on any kind of focus pulling on a gimbal, I just shoot with the deepest DOF I can get away with, use hybrid AF to get initial focus then try to keep the camera to subject distance within the focal plane. For real estate its easy since you can use wide angle lenses, for people its a different story. I've had plenty of takes ruined because of soft footage as the distance changed too much during the take.

No IBIS no bueno. Absolute number 1 deal-breaker for me. If I can't handhold it near rock steady 90% of the day, it's a fail.
But otherwise I would agree in principal that if anyone wanted to really know if a bit of expensive kit suited them, to rent it first. If possible. Unfortunately very such opportunities exist in France other than a couple of the big cities. And I don't live anywhere near them.
    I don't vlog. I don't use anything wider than a 35mm. No wobbles in my world 😜
But don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the R5C. It will be a really great option for a specific market. I'm just not that market due to the specific spec of this particular bit of kit.

I did post that here....my favorite was when the Canon rep said IBIS isn't perfect either because  when the sensor floats to the edges of the IBIS system lens distortion could make the image less clear.
Funny he didn't mention the IBIS wobble problem that only Canon seems to have.

I am looking forward to seeing more results from handheld tests by competent YouTube testers. The IBIS situation is the only thing that is keeping me from pre-ordering one.
Canon is definitely the one with the most exciting releases at the moment (C70, R3, R5C). Panasonic seems like it is one foot from the grave, the Nikon Z9 has fantastic specs but I simply cannot even force myself to be interested in it, and Sony has never interested me.
I think Sony made enough noise to finally convince Canon to put down the cripple hammer and start going all in not to mention they still have to compete against their own DSLR cameras that people like me are still holding onto.

Well at least it's got people talking. What are we on the 14th page of a product announced 5 days ago?
A7IV thread I started early September barely got to page 3?! Snooze.
Let's face it, this isn’t a very exciting time for the industry, still recovering from the on-going pandemic. Talking tech is part of doing the research, this isn’t exactly an affordable expense either..
That said, Canon is definitely the most polarising camera company when it comes to video.  And rightfully so with all the shenanigans we’ve lived through the years (blocking ML, being slow to adapt to mirrorless and of course the most recent overheat-gate).
But their strategy seems to be shaken up by RF mount, as they are eager to get people on-board including EF body Canon customers. The C70 with the Raw update will basically have the same exact IQ than the $11K C300 mk3.
And this 5RC? cmon it packs a lot of heat (pun intended) for a price point much lower than expected: 8K60, 5.9K, 4K DCI, 2.9K. RAW Light options, XF-AVC, full cine OS with WFM, false color etc. No overheating, no recording time limits. 45MP still monster. It’s actually the highest resolution cine line product yet priced at entry-level. Crazy.
Perfect though, no. No IBIS & micro-HDMI. No ND’s (then again no hybrid does).
Not too many gotchas imo. YMMV.

33 couples booked in with an average 2 days coverage each mostly and away 60+ nights during the Summer.
So as long as there are no new super-variants, Russia doesn’t invade Ukraine or aliens invade, it should be a good creative year.
That’s been the worst part for me, the near stagnation of creativity for 2 years.
Yes I could go shoot other things, but the reality is I have little to no interest in shooting ‘other things’ so that would just be forced and doing something for the sake of it.
No, I need to be back in my proper saddle again, have a good, (if stupidly busy) year and then next year settle back into my normal routine of max 24 jobs per annum.

Your needs don't fit someone's else and vice versa. As much, kind of work, style, etc.. : )
I don't think people are celebrating the lack of IBIS or instead the digital stabilization. I am still waiting to read that. Where? ; )
I just see the test with the camera mounted to the car proves that can even be more effective than IBIS is, or the same at least for shaky shots, as for instance.
In my case, I don't give a damn if Canon's IBIS is inferior to any other competitor, no one pays me to be their fanboy and I don't need stabilization for anything other except when I'm using the gimbal and then no IBIS or any other method are any useful.
So? If they can offer you a product without a feature you don't need, seems to me a better deal to not pay an extra cost for something you don't need, isn't it?
IBIS or lack of it mantra can fit someone's cup but not everyone's.
    It's all about that..

THIS is what people don't seem to understand when I say IBIS really is a big deal. THIS is exactly what I am talking about when I say I see horrible random jitter in all of the Canon digital IS clips I have watched if it was anything more than a slight pan or tilt.  I saw it in the C70 footage and I see it in the R5c footage.
I call it jitter, you call it blurring, but we are saying the same thing; digital stabilization looks very unnatural in more situations to my eyes than IBIS does and Canon's implementation of it is worse than GoPros and far worse than post processing like Davinci Resolve but the problem is it is baked into the footage. I can easily fix the IBIS wobble (which by the way I've literally never had a problem with when shooting on my S5) by shooting at a focal length longer than 24mm which is what I use anyway, but there is NOTHING you can do in post to fix the digital IS jitter.
I say when you need to shoot at 16mm THATS when you should just use a gimbal for a camera with IBIS. For me that would be when shooting real estate and for real estate I actually do use a gimbal at all times.

Exactly, everyone saying just use a gimbal hasn't walked in my shoes, or shot the projects that I work with on a daily basis. I have it all.....gimbals, monopods, tripods, sliders, etc and I literally cannot use any of them if I am shooting both photos and video for conferences, concerts, races, car shows, fashion shows etc. The only one I might be able to use is a monopod but even that would be a real PITA because I shoot portrait orientation for photos and landscape for video so I would need a special bracket to change orientations quickly and you can forget about quick low shots of say a car logo or a detail shot of a boat trailer. Not to mention a monopod puts a real crimp on creativity.
And like you mentioned, everyone breathing a sigh of relief that Canon removed their IBIS because it "fixes" the IBIS wobble are somehow celebrating that Canon failed to develop IBIS as good as Panasonic's, removed it, then replaced it with an artificial looking digital IS.
GoPro has the best digital IS I have ever used and I use it all the time for underwater video footage; and at times even it does some crazy warping thing that I have to throw away in post because it is impossible to fix.

I saw that video test, it did not change anything for me. OK, no IBIS is better for driving in a car with the camera mounted to the car......something I have literally never done in my 10+ yrs of filming.
