LOL : ) Jokes aside, I can actually agree with you not exactly as a contradiction but complexity on our "truths" or beliefs as you wish, you see we can agree on anything too (or almost ; )
Ah and being a poet coupled to these tools with "lots of character" (ain't we talk about camera + lens combos?) can make a novice (or not necessarily only just a novice) filmmaker a better one, no matter the rest for the sake of the point now ;- )

So thank you for bringing me to this new thread of you, you should know I am always trying to follow your posts I sincerely appreciate when focused on the same joy we both share topic related :- ) Paul Cezanne, a poet with pictures once said: "Time and reflection change the sight little by little 'til we come to understand."

Indeed : ) I guess to infer Internet has to be a nasty location from people placing their invectives and frustrations is simply to add a reducer on something always welcome as an open and healthy discussion is.

They haven't ever watched Citizen Kane, very likely ; )

BTW in behalf of this lovely thread, came to my mind now that vintage Nikkor 35-70mm f/3.5 AI...

@kye Thanks for the post. Certainly makes us look in the mirror.
For my real estate / architecture work, I like sharp(ish) lenses just because people are expecting to see detail.
But for people, I think that most of the kit zoom lenses are fine for 4K. Convenient, inexpensive, relatively-lightweight (so they balance well on a gimbal and are less tiring to use). I would have a bit of a problem with the variable aperture if I zoomed more during shooting, but I don't, so I don't worry about it too much.
One of the better kit zooms out there seems to be the Panasonic 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6, which has minimal focus breathing. (Some people would note that Panasonic has minimal focus.)
Also, when youtubers say to get the "cinematic look" you need an ultra-shallow depth of field, I just want to punch them in the throat. These tend to be the same people who sell creative LUT packs that look like a dumpster fire.

I've included a poll.  I am looking to get better video/photos SOOC.  I'm a full-time teacher and don't have the time/space to learn colorgrading or even colorgrade much more than basic adjustments.  I've enjoyed my a7III over my previous XT4.  That said the skin tones and color just don't cut it for me.  Looking for Advice.

Canon vs. Sony only ... Panasonic/Fuji autofocus takes them out of the running.

    Thoughts?

    hello to everybody!
Some days before i went to this amazing place
I present to you a hotel that is probably the best in the area there.
Those of you who have ever considered going, it is definitely recommended by me.
The hotel is called King Maron and is located in the area south of Maronia in Platanitis.
    Here is the video

Check out this Music Video i shot on the FX3.
The Camera is a massive upgrade to the A7iii. In Postproduction it was pretty easy to improve the lighting due to the 10 bit and it was finally possible to shot nice summer wether with Sony. But then you upload it to Youtube and the compression messes it all up...
Check it out! Looking forward to your feedback!
Of course it would really help the artist if you would comment or like on youtube.

Follow your point, but playback is not so dramatic at all. Here's mine on a Windows tablet and handles perfectly well any 4K outcome, H.265 (HEVC) included:

It's more about processor. Let's not confusing with Resolve, based on eGPU resources consuming, instead.

I agree with that for the existing portrait mode for photos, especially around hair, they haven’t nailed it yet. But that video Apple showed today, to me it looked WAY better than what we’ve seen so far, for video or photos. Could just be selective footage they showed though.
also, the original BMPCC had what, basically a 1” inch sensor and shot ProRes. So a 1/2” sensor on a phone shooting ProRes isn’t hilarious to me, especially when it’s got decent portrait mode that potentially makes the footage look like it was shot on a much bigger camera.
I sold my mirrorless camera last year and replaced it with the IP12ProMax, and I can imagine going back to a “big” camera. I’m excited for each of these small steps.

Free version brings some hardware limitations, better to buy a Blackmagic camera to include it : ) That's why they've addressed those speed restrictions. A pain to admit it, but pure fact. BMD has some ethical flaws to correct. Their business policies won't sanctify them... ; -)

Yet, a bargain for what it is. Let's be fair, simply the best editing and grading software available.
This playground was in the $100,000 mark some time ago. I guess three full years of film editing background + some extra year of full training as trainee in such field can tell a bit too : -)

I'd firmly nominate you for an Academy Award for Technical Achievement aka Technical Oscar and trust me, from my experience with my previous Herr Doktor Horst Linge (Isco), your achievement is on such list ; )
You're a third party player, not a major camera manufacturer bigwig (yet) !

Fair enough Tim, but the opposite POVs expressed here between 'business craft' and 'art craft' (not a trading mark of the gaming industry for sure LOL) don't necessarily mean every filmmaker will have to run the whole steps of the career to succeed and see the outcome popping up. The same way a filmmaker is the one able to have 'product' 'to be published', no matter where he/she is coming from.
Especially today along the digital age. There is world in the lens-based media outskirts. Lots of 'digital filmmakers' get outstanding achievements without the old school standards. A lot has changed. Let alone with the streaming now.
As @barefoot_dp adequately nailed and clearly illustrated from those words above-posted, I just can't stand that shooting ad nauseam in a daily basis is a much faster learning curve for this craft/business/industry/art/whatever we want to do or call it : )

Shooting is just a part of the process, filmmaking is much beyond to have a camera setup in hands (E :- )

Business as meaning of activity, craft, occupation, industry... If industry is often connected with profit, art is broader, I believe. Profit is usually the last purpose of making art.
