Right now there is only one FF camera that can shoot 10-bit internal video, and it does not look like this is going to change any time soon.
The A7Siii is going to need a much larger body if it wants to shoot 4K 10-bit with no time-limit, and I don't know how many Sony folks would be happy about that. ( certainly none of the still photo fans )
And then there is only one camera with 5-axis IBIS that can produce smooth handheld 4K footage, so it's going to take a few more iterations for the other brands to catch up with Panasonic DUAL IS stabilization.
Panasonic is only one month in with it's S1 / S1R cameras, so the story may change by the end of the year when Sigma will have a bunch of native L-mount lenses on the market.
I'm never going back to shooting 8-bit video, especially with cameras that can't produce smooth handheld footage without a gimbal.

Mistake 1:  Canon is using 4-5 year old technology.
Mistake 2: Nikon is using 1-2 year old technology.
The Sony FF are basically computers with a lens mount. Their handling is worst of breed. CaNikon had the opportunity to offer the first mirrorless FF cameras that handled like cameras and they threw it away. Sad.

Its going to be fascinating to see what the XDCAM management team will "allow" the Alpha management team to give the new A7S-III. A Sony manager fir Russia was stating that he thinks the A7S-III wont have "deep color" as that is reserved for the XDCAM FS series only. I suspect he means 10bit.
I heard at NAB that Panasonic is very receptive to the S1 having 4k raw over HDMI and that it IS definetely comming to the S1 this year. Those same sources told me that Sony is not willing to go that far right now. Atomos is pressuring them but Sony is not buying into the raw idea for Alpha. (The next FS probably)
Will Alpha be allowed to have highly compressed 10bit internal recording or will it only be granted 10bit video HDMI? I would love to be a fly on the wall in these Alpha/XDCAM manager board room meetings!!
2019 is a massive political fight for managers inside Sony and Panasonic. Nikon?....no no, HDMI raw was an EASY choice!!!

    Yes good points Kisaha.
    2) especially.
Then again, the Nikon FTZ adapter doesn't seem to be helping the Z6/Z7 sales.
My Z7 cost me 3800 euros. 5 months later, I am struggling to shift it for £2300 on eBay and it's practically new with all the original packaging. I am a bit livid about that.
Perhaps the worst investment I've ever made... Z6 just seemed to kill it. Way too similar. Way too expensive on the Z7 pricing. At the least, the Z7 should have been a different body style aimed only at pros.

The A7iii was such a good value proposition at launch, that if it offered 10-bit 4-2-0 internally at launch, it would have completely destroyed almost all other cameras in its segment. I still think that while the S1 has superb video features (usable IBIS while walking, that insane promised VLog, superb low light capabilities etc), because the VLog will cost other $99-199 more, the gap between the S1 and others in its category will increase substantially (I am guessing it may go up to $700). Considering the lack of PDAF, the much larger and heavier body (like 1.4 times the weight and 1.70 times the volume of the A7iii), lesser battery life (especially in comparison with the A7iii), Panasonic should be careful with the pricing of the VLog. Or they should have charged $2200 for the S1 at launch (wonder if it would have been possible with the class leading EVF, the best IBIS, one of the best weather sealing, and other class leading hardware) and charged another $300 for the VLog (since it may require a lot more work and be too advanced for most users) I feel the price difference between $1999 and $2499 is huge, especially if one plans to pick up more than a single camera. The S1 prices will also go down, the only question is when.
The Eos R on the other hand, is at the bottom of its category, and should, therefore have been priced accordingly.
PS: These guys believe that a price cut is in the offing wrt to All Mirrors Cameras, including the S1. I am personally hoping the S1 hits $1999 and stays there.

You know they will Gimp the hell out of it somehow. It might be a Turkey. Canon had better wake up on it, they are in a Hell of a crowded field now. This isn't just them and Nikon battling it out anymore. DSLRs now are really pretty much dead. Unless you are a Wildlife or a Sports shooter there is no reason to buy one anymore. And a APSH, APSC makes more sense anyways on both just for the extra reach of the crop sensor. Heck I keep reading about more and more people going to the Olympus EM1 X. It's cheaper than the top DSLRs, so why not. Crazy good IBIS is hard to turn down, along with lighter lenses.

I think its bad idea for anyone, especially a professional reviewer to dismiss a camera that they haven't spent time with. That said for me with the X-T3 the EOS RP seems like a good way to get into FF. I already have some Canon FF lenses to try with my X-T3 and Viltrox speedbooster so would just need the body and adapter. Also while it does crop 4k the 1.6x factor is a perfect match for an EF-S lens. Where can I get equivalent lenses for the S1 crop? The S1R seems to do everything but for the price with kit lens I can have the X-T3 with gimbal, a zoom, couple of primes AND a speedbooster plus a Canon zoom and primes while I wait out the mirrorless FF wars.

No problem. I think you are hard on them. The manual was out a month ago.
Here is the manual on the English website: http://eng-ca.faq.panasonic.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/55502
The link I first send you is on the first page of Google search result "Panasonic S1 Manual". It isn't hard to find it for me.
Panasonic had extensively help guide on YouTube that was released a couple before they release the camera to go over all the features this camera: https://www.youtube.com/user/PanasonicCanadaHelp/videos
They have provide FW update in the same month they release the camera.
    I'm also in the US.
I don't usually read manual for any camera, but decided to read it since I had some time before getting my camera and I thought the manual was extensive in providing details of all their features. There are alot of features!

I follow news about Nikon, Fujifilm, Canon and Olympus. Whenever I read about  any of those brands on DPR the comments are flooded with Sony-fans. The scale of it is pretty incredible. Of course fans of all brands will troll each other occasionally but Sony is on another level.
It is astounding. Its old. Can never have a discussion about anything without Sony-fans (or cockroaches as they’re called in Japan) flooding threads with destructive comments.
The only positive thing is that there’s suddenly an unexpected camaraderie among all the others.

Having all its internal log and HLG profiles with internal 10 bit 422 at decent data rate will probably happen. Of course you get that with Panasonic just after a paid upgrade. The Sony will probably cost more off the bat so there is that as well.

The banding is caused by my the DPAF and is only visible under extreme conditions. That said, missed focus is visible under ALL conditions, so that’s a trade off I’m willing to make for my shooting.
Speaking of ergonomics, the flip screen on the Canon is easily a better option than the   tilt screen of the Panasonic so there’s that also to consider. The aforementioned also extends to the convenience of being able to flip the screen inwards when carrying it.
For myself, I’m fine with heavy cameras, if the performance is there, as shown by the 1DXMK2 which is also great for fast action shots. But if I have to make a trade-off I want a lighter body.
As to the OP, I would buy the Canon. While he clearly stated he does not care about AF, he made mention of native EF glass. If he’s not inclined to purchase new glass the EOS R is a smarter choice.
With the Adapter, the EF glass works as native glass. Zero issues. Honestly it’s the best adaptation I’ve ever used.
That said, any of the current batch of mirrorless are good enough for 95% of users. The bar has moved far enough that frankly we are down to the point of just being nitpicky.

I've used the EOS R pretty extensively, but looking forward to my S1 arriving this week. After I test it, I'll let you know, but I'm pretty sure the Panasonic S1 is going to be way more to my liking for shooting video and with your GH5s, a much better combo for color and picture profiles.

I didn’t say that, I only say Canon and Sony can get focus hunt/lost focus as well
Not being defensive just sick of people thinking mirrorless have to be small and fragile, for pro work I want them to be tough and able to stand abuse for field work. I am looking at it as pure workhorse and nothing else. I use R/Leica T for casual photography and G1xiii for travel, though R is also used as bcam for c200.

I use them a lot as I work full time in video production, that speaking from my experience since I have huge sample size not just shooting once in a blue moon.
Obvious S1 is not targeted to you, there are many tools out there to suit your needs, I just buy whatever fits my need.
Compare to c200 it is much lighter, I’ve done c200 handleheld for half day, so S1 weight is totally fine for me.

I think eventually we would get something like DJI Osmo Pocket Pro/2 with 1" sensor that's affordable and good enough even in low light and most circumstances.

I think you are too fixated on having an ACTUAL robot to the filming. We aren't going to need to have robot filming/photography to be disruptive. The disruption will come from both hardware and software.
Imagine AI software that allow you to import all the video and images and it will analyze all the scenes, generated multiple draft of final edited video with music, transitions, title. It will be able to copy another videographer's editing style and apply to your videos.
This combined with affordable camera and useful features such as DPAF & affordable gimbal will allow any weekend warriors to do videography as a side hustle and undercharge the full timers. If I spend 10 hours shooting and the software will take care the rest, I have no problem charging less.
I have work with alot of wedding videographers and have seen alot of the final edit. The videos are very generic and formulaic. I would have no problem doing it myself as a weekend warrior let alone a sophisticated AI software. I would definitely raised the bar even though I mostly shoot stills.
I think you are underestimating the combination of human operator and sophisticated AI software able to produce quality works and undercut the competitions.
I can definitely see the perfect storm happening when the recession hit and even people with 4 years degree unable to find a job (there alot!), people sick of working for min wage, job loss from automation (automated car, factory worker, job taken away from robot) and so many affordable quality gears (imagine DJI Osmo Pocket Pro version with bigger sensor sub $1000, mic, LED light ), sophisticated AI software that cut significant editing time and plenty of free and premium education out there. The quality will rise significantly while the pricing goes down.

I'm in the same age bracket. Great mind think alike ha!
Years ago you can make a career just by taking decent SOOC exposure from film. With the invention of DSLR, taking decent SOOC isn't enough. Recent tech even make things even more easier now with eyeAF tracking, and EVF allowing WYSIYG. Now we have animal tracking. Alot of niche of photography are  very difficult to make money now as a career that was once a viable career (journalist, magazine photographer).
Technology won't replace cream of the crop photographer/videographer with good marketing, but it does enough damage to low and midtier market where most of the clients are.
None of the stuff I've seen are that impressive for me to be so naive it can't be imitate or duplicate by sophicate AI software, basic human operator, readily available quality education, and affordable gears.
