  1. Face detect AF at 30p is surprising usable on GH5S on my first inspection. However, 24p is definitely worst than 30p. I see no difference at 24p after update. So weird 6 frames more per second makes a difference I guess. 60p with face detect works really well and even better with 1-area for the classic “hold thing in front of camera”, especially if hold the object up first and then bring it towards the camera versus just flicking it into frame.

    Panasonic GH6

I think they have an incredible high bar to meet so they are taking their time. The GH series cameras from the beginning are all about pushing the limits. I don’t need HFR 4K. I want practical features. Improved IBIS, recording to SSD via USB-C, USB-C power delivery, better DR, internal ND, improved weather sealing. A GH6 with these features and the 10-25 f/1.7 or a speedbooster with a vintage lens would be an absolute beast. An internal ND + speedbooster would be very compelling for even FF zealots. Removing the shutter, and replacing it with some kind of ND unit would be the single best thing they could do! Sensor readout speeds on MFT are really good. Just have electronic shutter for GH6 and the future photo-centric G9/G10/G11 or whatever can keep the shutter. AF, eh, I’m fairly happy now. Would I like PDAF? Yes, of course but I’ll take next gen DfD too if I get an internal Nd solution. Please don’t repeat another GH6S debacle. I would say they would do better to minaturise the EVA1 to fill the role of any potential GH6S.
  3. Glad to see AMD back in the performance game with the same low price strategy. I still think the future (at least in the mac world) will be fast but extremely efficient ARM cpus with dedicated hardware acceleration chips (like Apples T2, Afterburner, Neural chips) that will accelerate things like H.265 decoding/encoding, ProRes encoding/decoding, and Neural net algorithms they are starting to use for things like object removal, stabilization, and 3D tracking. A MBP with the T2 chip just chews through 5K 200Mbit/s HEVC footage from a GH5. Future cameras, I think, will be replacing H.264 with HEVC for a multitude of reasons. You almost need hardware accelerating encoding/decoding to play back that footage and edit it in real time.
  4. Hopefully we will see a Gen.4 for GH5S. Great work these look incredibly similar.
  5. I’m up in the air wether I want to do a custom AMD PC build with windows (I hate windows) or pay the tax for a decently spec’d iMac or go the MBP eGPU route. I really think all I need and would want to carry traveling is my iPad Pro, but now Kye has me thinking about eGPU again.
  6. I wonder if they are using a Sony Semi. Sensor for the Komodo and future “budget” friendly red cameras and selling the name and perhaps color science and ecosystem. If the dynamic range is good and it has REDCODE and I’m not locked into buying silly overpriced red branded junk accessories I would be very interested. And I’m a hobbyist enthusiast.
  7. Love how you think you have it all figured out but self inflict ignorance upon yourself. Winning strategy you have there. ? It’s not a judicial setting and why I think impeachment, as laid out in the constitution, is fundamentally broken. Impeachment will never work when facts and honorable behavior are not required in the process. Trumpers are a cult and they would rather drink the koolaid to the end then look at facts.
  8. If it has better sound than the current Videomic Pro and the Deity D3 Pro it’s a win in my book and is worth the $230 they are charging for it. Criticizing the product for not being pro when as a audio pro you KNOW exactly what quality you need, is a bit weird. Cheap mics are anything below $1000 basically. I have a feeling Curtis’ Review will be positive and a highly recommended buy for people with a $300 budget.
  9. Looks like a great value mic that would find a home doing something just about anywhere. Putting it in my list. I’m sure the sound performance is good.
  10. Hope someone makes a MFT speedbooster with a eVND element in it that is powered off the pins with AF pass through. Have no clue if technically possible but I know I would pay good money for the convenience.

    Skydio 2

I wish the camera was a bit better. Seems it performs the best in 60p HDR. I’m wondering about the 24/30p modes. Ive crashed my original Mavic Pro. And it wasn’t really my fault. I took my eyes off it for less than 3 seconds in a seemingly stable hover. In those 3 seconds in managed to drift into a rock wall and tumble to the ground into a pool of water. Ever since then I’ve wanted a drone like skydio 2. The ability to fly it manually with a controller but have it assist in not hitting things is my holy grail in a drone. Mavic 2 Pro is pretty effective but not like this. The SkyDio 2 only uses user input as intent and pretty much flys itself. I love it.
  12. So who decides what is law and how it will be enforced in this 1% gov’t? Or are proposing wild west and prairie justice? Have you driven on a road lately? Who built it? Flown in a plane to somewhere? Who made sure it didn’t collide with another plane? How did you buy your cameras? And with what? Did you pay in sea shells and gold flakes? I get that gov’t doesn’t work for everybody. Gov’t fails people, sometimes in spectacular ways. But throwing out, wholesale, a system that frankly you use everyday for even the tiniest niceties in your life is asinine. Reform it. Don’t destroy it. Frankly I agree with you on one aspect. There is way to much emotion and not enough self-awareness in this day and age. If only we could debate the Ideas and politics like we do the image out of a camera. But frankly, emotion seeps it’s way into that too. God help us.
  13. Ah yes, it invokes the same feeling I feel when I see his face on the TV screen. Great job Andrew! This LUT will come in handy when they make a movie of these events. Wait...I think they already did. Ah, yes 2006 Idiocracy.
  14. Right now the camera only starts continuously focusing when you press record in AFC mode. This option allows you to have it do it in live view mode as well before you even press record.
  15. Good luck! I can confirm that “Near/Far Shift AF” only operates in the AF-S mode. It behaves exactly like using the AF-On button except it will give the camera more information about your “intent” and ignore potential focus subjects in either the near or far plane. It does not act like a focus limiter in AFC. This is kinda disappointing for me as I thought in AFC it would act like a type of focus limiter. Say you are vlogging in AFC. You press AF Near Shift Focus On and it would acquire focus in AFS—favoring near subjects—lock focus, switch back to AF-C and then continue to favor near subjects and ignore potential far subjects after that. In essence giving the camera a focus limit or a fence to work in based on the initial Near/Far shift AF button press. “Focus on my face, ignore far subjects, but if something nearer to the camera comes into frame try to focus on it, when it leaves frame try to acquire focus but don’t try to focus on something passed my face (or the distance my face was when I pressed the AF Shift button). This would mitigate the dreaded focus drift and back focus problems.
  16. I'm not sure how this AF Near / Far Shift works. I assigned them to buttons and it seems to trigger a refocus but there is no indication on screen that it is in this mode when recording and in AF-C mode. Any ideas from people that have updated? EDIT: I’m worried the Near/Far shift is only AF-S and not AF-C, meaning it doesn’t tell the camera to ignore near objects when in Far Shift mode in AF-C and vice versus. The updated manual doesn’t really clarify either.
  17. Yes, two very different cameras in form and slightly in function. For me I would still choose the S1H as I would value the pick-up-ability of it much more.
  18. If the S1H was made by any other camera manufacturer we probably would never seem them in a timely manner. Luckily, this is a panasonic camera. ?
  19. Make sure the SSD is formatted and is using the ExFAT file system. How old is your Mac and what version of MacOS are you using?
  20. Really enjoying the flexibility of the 10-25mm f/1.7. It's a great lens when you can use the Ex-Tele features of the GH5 or GH5S. GH5S only allows Ex-Tele in 1080p modes but that offers a 2.7x enhancement and makes the 10-25 a very flexible lens in this mode. The GH5 can get a 1.4x enhancement in 4K.
  21. This might be cheaper and wholly more creepy.
  22. Yes, you can change motor speeds and even the power of the individual axis on the fly straight from the little screen. This is a huge feature! And it blows the SC out of the water for this reason alone for me. I could easily have the focus motor on as well with this setup. I think the sigma 18-35 + speed booster will be way to front heavy. The EVF will hit the rear motor for sure. So only upright only with that setup.
  23. Don’t forget they also support BRAW on the EVA-1 with the new blackmagic recorders as well. Looks amazing.
  24. Can confirm GH5S + 10-25 f/1.7 with a Smallrig L-Bracket cage balances perfectly on the Weebill-S. I also have an 8Sinn cage but it won’t balance perfectly due to the bump out of the cage cold shoe mount on the right side hitting the roll axis arm. The motors can still handle it and it works pretty well; just not optimal. First impressions? Footage is pretty smooth straight out of camera. Still need warp stabilizer if you want butter smooth footage. For $439 it’s a great gimbal. Love the size. But...I still can’t wait to have improved IBIS and EIS in future cameras so I don’t need a gimbal. EDIT: To clarify you need warp stabilizer for butter smooth footage on the GH5S that doesn’t have IBIS. Any camera that does have IBIS will work like a dream with this gimbal.
