  1. Its true that you need a certain amount of light to achieve a good photo. Once you have that amount you are good to go. I mean you could argue the A7S2 takes higher quality video than any other camera as it arguably has better high iso performance than any other camera on the market.
  2. It seems like AI should be able to even the playing field if done right. I mean if the AI can detect a face, contrast shouldn't matter right?
  3. To be fair though the only camera that does good rolling shutter in 4k is like the GH5 and Pocket 4k. XT3 is pretty good but its still 20ms, which probably isn't great for the handheld look.
  4. TBH the lenses are kind of holding me back from going Canon. One of the big advantages of switching to Canon for me would be lens selection. But if older lenses cripple the auto focus that kind of kills it.

  6. I can see it happening though. The EOS R will target photographers who need the high MP. The higher crop 4k also makes sense for a more photo oriented camera. It makes sense for them to have a lower MP video featured camera. That's the hope at least. This would actually make me consider Canon.
  7. Looks like it'll be a better video cam than the EOS r, good job Canon.
  8. WB seems good to me though I haven't done any testing and I honestly suck when it comes to properly white balancing. I could do a sort of test with a color chart if you are interested though.
  9. Wasn't Sony kind of pioneering mirrorless tho? I do think the S1 is a great camera, well besides video auto focus. All four mirrorless FF cameras have strong points.
  10. Interesting, I am just glad turning down the NR helps. Maybe its the grain? Some people think Fuji grain looks filmish.
  11. I'll test HLG next. Would be cool if it was cleaner. I just got a 4k monitor also want to see what I'm missing ?
  12. I owned the 6300 as well but never owned a 1dxii. I think that camera is one few complain about.
  13. This has been a long reported issue with Fuji cameras. At higher ISO's the skin gets waxy and there is a loss of detail. I noticed this heavily on my Fuji XT2, at 1600 iso there was some nasty waxy skin thing going on. Is the problem still relevant on the XT3 shooting F-log? Shot with -4 NR and -4 sharpening (all the way down). Flog H265 24p 4k with the eterna LUT applied. Here is a google drive link for the original file(transcoded to prores 422). https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1uy3u_9oZuiNUozLEVB2PTFHlWlKwXMQr?usp=sharing (file name "NR Test XT3") Thoughts?
  14. The lenses are so expensive on the Panasonic. Internal 4k 60p or 4k 60p in general is a great feature though. Panasonic will also offer a 12 bit external solution, (unknown if its RAW or not yet) so it could be on par with Nikon in that regard. Having the ability to shoot 10 bit internal is very attractive for me. If I purchased it I'd likely skip the lenses and just adapt manual ones.
  15. True, though I am seeing skin detail on my HD screen after zooming in 300% so I imagine it would be more detailed on a 4k screen not less. Maybe its also more jarring if you have raw footage to compare it to. Guess I need to invest in a 4k monitor one of these days. I'll link a google drive test.
  16. Interesting, I personally don't see much of a difference between 3200 iso and 640 iso in log. Its a bit nosier and there is definitely detail loss at 6400 and even more at 12,800. Maybe I just don't have an eye for this stuff. My monitor is also HD, so maybe that makes a difference.
  17. Yes HLG is only in 10 bit. So no 4k 60p or 70-180fps HD. You can do 60p HD HLG though.
  18. XT3 or A73? ISO 640 is as low as the XT3 goes in log and HLG its 1000 iso.
  19. Tony summed it up nicely, Its a terrible video camera but functionally its the best we've ever used. Like anything it depends on the person. I think I am more of an EOS R type guy, but its too expensive for me, at least for what you get.
  20. Yeah I remember that review. I've never found it too problematic as I usually shoot at base ISO. Can't be avoided with event work though. My last wedding I did a lot of shooing at 6400 iso on my XT3. I found the waxy skin issue was much better than my XT20 (no log recording).
  21. Yeah maybe we'll get that again with the A7s3. It's something a lot of people don't notice though and favor higher MP as a result.
