  1. Most hybrid cameras look bad when whip panning. But the A6400 is still worse. The other nice thing about the G85 is it has great 1080p, which has low rolling shutter.
  2. Yes but 2/3rds of the shots out of focus isn't good enough! ? The world is an interesting place.
  3. I didn't mean an actual list. More like word getting around. I guess the world is big enough where that isn't effective.
  4. What industry do you work in? Seems like a person like that would get blacklisted once clients see their subpar results. I am not an industry person so I don't know. I guess it's the downside of an unregulated industry.
  5. I mean you covered a lot?, if it can happen it probably will. Its possible the innovation could slow down when it gets to a certain point. Cameras are not too far off from being almost perfect at least to me. At some you'd think people would start holding on to their systems longer because they are so good.
  6. Yeah like were they just pulling focus off the GH5 lcd? I feel like if a production company signed on to do a TV show they'd at least have a system down that worked for them. I guess failing is part of the learning process. I've seen a ton of incompetence with people who do "video" but its all been non paid passion type projects, so its more understandable there I guess. I consider myself an amateur but some of the stuff I've seen makes me feel professional ?
  7. Thanks! Most of my stuff is no budget one-two man crew type stuff. Much of the time I feel like I am just running around trying to salvage the situation as best as possible? Michael Bay is definitely interesting. The Transformer movies are pretty dull. I enjoyed 13 hours, it had a really high contrast sometimes blown out look, definitely different. The Rock is one of my favorite action films, it definitely had a more traditional Hollywood look, very visually appealing though.
  8. I have some of my shorts on my youtube thebrothersthre3
  9. Short films, action movies are probably my favorite. I shoot live events as well (where I actually make money?)
  10. I'm not into ultrasharp. I rarely add sharpening and always Dial it down in camera. That said some of my fast lenses are just soft wide open. For me it looks unnatural. Certainly could work for a certain style project but in general it's more of a hindrance.
  11. I am not sure what my personal style is. I think it would change depending on the project. I'll say I generally like to see what's going on really well so I often prefur static or slowly moving wide shots. I also enjoy slow motion as it can really let you see something that wouldn't otherwise be notice able or too quick to be noticed.
  12. Just two examples but in general the entire show is generally shot this way and I don't really see a point to it. IMHO if the audience is concentrating more on the background than the subject it's probably because your story isn't engaging not because you used long DOF. To me having a shallow DOF tends to be more distracting than anything else as it looks unnatural. Just my opinion and stylistic preferance. That said I always buy fast lenses. A 1.4 lens is usually sharper stopped down to 2.8 than a 2.8 lens wide open.
  13. Some interesting observations I noticed when watching Iron Fist and than Raiders of the Lost Ark later in the day (sick as a dog so catching up on TV time) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CaVXeTZasg7zrElwlLomWrBTXMKSj2T6/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_fGiVkt_mT1eOf9dIBmLmYwdH4zikIhl/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cw6kkbYIVOUmPNRecZbjoqR8Ygg_crUo/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l4BvqK-0baVAKDy2jAF3uXAiwDQKgDbs/view?usp=sharing Much shallower DOF, regardless of daylight or night shows. Iron Fist is definitely less traditional in how its shot. They seem to prefer to blow the highlights when it comes to things like windows. I don't see this with the other Netflix Marvel shows. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Cox43pZ-DQj7TYwOm3edFKawZgXZCbbH/view?usp=sharing
  14. It's much more useful to take a particular film or at least era and talk about how to replicate it. I think the guy who made that video is kind of talking about a lot of nothing. The types looking at how to get cinematic footage are not industry workers. It's not like people are coming into set with a YouTube degree and messings things up.
  15. Damn I thought the Ronin S was supposed to be pretty good. Just purchased a used Ronin M again after tiring of pistol grip gimbals. Gimbal is just a shortcut for me, trying to imitate dolly or steadicam shots without having the money, time, or skill to do the real deal. Although I have been seeing images of gimbals being used more on productions.
  16. Happens sometimes, though some gimbals are just crap as well.
  17. Cinamatic is intention. If you intend it and it has a purpose it can be cinematic. If your gimbal isnt calabrated right and you get jittery footage it's not cinamatic but if it was controlled and intentional like in Saving Private Ryan it certainly could.
  18. Olympus never really seemed to care much about video unlike Panasonic. Its cool they finally have log at least.
  19. The Pocket 4k just came out. Panasonic also just recently announced a new zoom lens. Panasonic is busy with its full frame stuff but I have a feeling later in the year the GH6 will be announced and will probably have a lot of features no other camera is offering.
  20. I doubt M43 will be obsolete but we'll see.
  21. Bummer, not surprising as Olympus besides IBIS has never done anything impressive in the video department.
  22. Just a continuous gimbal shot where the focus had to change a lot. Probably did the shot 6 times before switching to multi and it nailed it right away.
