    Agreed. Frankly that sounds illegal.

Be fair, it was you who brought up the commercial angle in defending the camera.  And you made that point when replying to someone who suggested it could be used on such productions, with green screen work and artic based movies.  In fact, we have been arguing against the very thing you accuse us of.

Yeah, when you have people saying the overheating warning came on after leaving the camera on for 20 minutes before even hitting record, they're gonna be in for a rude awakening for sure.

The gulf in knowledge between those who just hang out on forums / amateur hobbyists and those who are full time professionals is unfortunately just ridiculously large.

And anybody that’s ever been on an actual set (rather than an Internet forum) the camera is on the entire time for setup before the take.
Bang goes your R5. Could the talent just hang around for 2 hours before we go again?
    Ridiculous.

A lot of people use a smaller mirrorless as a B camera when filming say an interview, working as a 2nd camera angle.
I did a job recently where a GH5s was a B camera on a gimbal and were I using the R5 in 4k HQ mode, I'd have likely encountered overheating as the camera was on for over 30 mins shooting.
Seriously your post comes over as so naive.  Do you shoot much video, or is it just something you talk about on forums?

$4K for a camera you have to put away instead of enjoy shooting with it?
    Well I’ll be damned...

Many years ago, when footballers were still earning only a bit more than the average working man, they used to have their wages further reduced in the summer period when no games were played.
One of the finest players of that era, Tom Finney, told a great story about his colleague Tommy Docherty trying to get a better pay deal for himself.
"Tommy came down from Celtic, and had a fairly good season with us. In those days we used to line up in the corridor before going in to the manager to find out our terms for the following year. I went in to see Bill Scott, the manager, and he said I'd be on the same terms as the year before, £12 a week during the season, and £10 a week in the summer, which was known as 12-and-10. Tommy went in after me, and was told he'd be on 12-and-eight. `I'm not signing,' he said. `I've just found out that Finney's on 12-and-10.' The manager couldn't believe it. `But Finney's a far better player than you,' he said. `Not in the bloody summer he's not,' Tommy said."
I've been reminded of that story again by numerous comments I've been reading about the S1-H and its AF system.
Yes, the R5 and A7Siii might have much better AF systems than the S1-H but not when the camera has overheated they haven't.

Sometimes i want to sell my S1H because of its AF that's not on par with the offeringd of the competition. But then I think about my needs and realize I don't shoot sports, i don't shoot fast action, i usually shoot interviews, corporate, docs, and i'd love to go more tow fictional kind of shoot (narrative).
And i tell myself why would I need another camera for those controlled environments i'm shooting in?
Panasonic bodies are so reliable, but hey they're not as trendy as all those cameras from Canon ans Sony that all the bloggers show.
That's a shame. The AF is a lame excuse to me. I rather have a reliable camera, a workhorse with not so good continuous af than an unreliable camera with fast blazing af.

    Buy an S1H.
It's actually a bummer to see so many youtubers/bloggers/influences/blah supporting Canon and Sony as they continue to under-deliver. And here is Panasonic, who for 4-5 years now has been on an absolute roll (GH5 > GH5s > EVA-1 > S1 > S1H), giving us super reliable products with the best IQ and specs on the market with things we ask for (dual XRL, timecode, video tools).
Please, everyone buy Panasonic. I don't want to use a Sony in the future. And while I love the C200/C300III/C500II, I don't want a mirrorless camera that craps out after a few minutes.

I'm knee deep into the L-Mount for at least the next 5 years, so I'm not in the market to switch. But I am always willing to consider a deal on another S1H if my funds are right. 😀

The Panasonic S1H to Atomos Ninja V ProRes RAW firmware is downloadable here...

Seriously consider giving the 6K RAW a go.
Most ProRes RAW is pixel binned via HDMI (like Nikon Z6, Sigma Fp, GFX 100, etc.)
    But not this one.

I totally agree with your analysis, @Andrew Reid. RED is shooting itself in the foot by patent-trolling other camera manufacturers who implement raw video recording. They should continue making their high-profit margin cameras for the professional cine market and, instead of burning their money on nonsense like the Hydrogen phone, offer attractive license packages for their RAW codec so that it becomes a prosumer industry standard. Everyone would profit, RED probably the most.
As a long-time Linux user, I am reminded of the company SCO (which owned the copyrights of the historical Unix source code) and its attempt to patent-troll and bully Linux development through a gigantic lawsuit - and ended up going out of business because of that.

    Exactly.
I hope they'll continue to develop it and introduce this kind of codecs into their future cameras, as well.
    Seconding that.

To me, Panasonic S1 is a hugely underrated tool.
Everyone quickly jumped to the S1H bandwagon and forgot all about the basic model.
If I were to upgrade from X-T3, most likely I'd choose the S1.

It would be simply unbeatable. The crazy thing is, that you could grab three used S1H cams last week, as everyone was cashing out to race to Sony and Canon's offerings. Kinda wish I dodn't book that all inclusive vacation to Puerto Rico next week, cause I would certainly love to grab a few more! 😀

"All I want is the perfect camera..."
Sadly there's no such thing. The Sony sounded great on paper but the footage looks super underwhelming because of the heavy processing especially.

Yes, but at this point, if it had competent AF it would be the affordable cinema level camera for the those you tubers as well. Go back and look at the comments on PM’s videos when he used the 1DX..people lusting over having one so they could be “like him”. Not saying its right, just saying perceived image is part of the equation in selling products.
It’s moments like these with flagship FF cameras from Panasonics direct competitors self-combusting on the interwebs, is exactly why they need someone out there trumpeting their reliable, workhorse, cameras. It’s marketing 101.

I mean it's not a V-logger camera, more like a cinema workhorse which could be used as an A-camera image wise even.

My wife doesn't want her face posted, but here is just an example of some skin tones under a terrible fluorescent light (white balanced) before/after a beginner blueish/green horror movie type grade. No keys or masks were used by the way, just white balance and tint changes.
