Yep.. that's right, sorry I should have said.  Specifically the line in Resolve.  Theres a bit of a debate about if it's the skin colour line or just an indicator, but the point is that skin tones actually vary wildly in hue depending on lighting conditions.  The idea that skin tones should be on the line are shot down pretty quickly on the grading forums.
The top row are from the ARRI video, and the bottom row are from other videos that got good reception.

Here are a bunch of vector scopes from the ARRI video - notice the highly, highly, highly controlled skin tones!

These are a couple from the C200 demo video (IIRC) and note the more spread out line, and also that the line is between the indicator line and the Red reference box, and even slightly beyond the red in certain areas.

I have 4 teenage nieces, they all prefer their phones since the Osmo can’t make calls, text, Instagram, FaceTime and so on. And they don’t edit anything or even use a computer, with the Osmo you have to offload through  another device.
Travel and vloggers seem to be the target, but beyond stabilization it doesn’t really deliver for either since you need accessories.
Kudos for bringing something different, but the Hero7 with a simple handle still looks better to me, and it’ll likely be a lot more rugged

So Super35/the Arri Alexa (90% of movies you will have seen will be shot on those formats) have a crop factor of around 1.45 (I got this number wrong at first, updated my earlier post), unless they were shot anamorphic in which case we get into the story of horizontal crop factors and we get really freaky, which we will not do now.
Your 1dX II has a crop of around 1.3, so the angle of view is WIDER. If you don't want to exceed 18mm angle of view when compared to s35, you'll have to put a tighter lens on your 1dx mark II. In your case the crop factor of a 1dX II when compared to super 35 would be around 0,9, so you wouldn't want to go wider than a 20mm roughly.
However, to make your life easier: in real life a crop factor of 0,9x is is so incredibly, insignificantly small that it really doesn't matter, just go for the same lenses you would use on Super35 and you'll be fine.

Speaking of downscaling. Interesting way to figure out if it is downscaling if you can find the true specs.
"Figuring out what kind of monitor you’ve got requires a trip to your monitor’s spec sheet. Proper QHD monitors have a larger pixel pitch or pixel width (the distance between the center of two sequential pixels) compared to 4K UHD monitors. If your QHD monitor has a pixel pitch of .233mm or so, then you’re working with the real deal. If it’s got a 0.16mm pixel pitch, the same as a UHD monitor, you’re probably working with a downscaled display. Eagle-eyed owners can likely confirm their suspicions by looking at text or small icons, but you should probably contact your manufacturer to get some clarification".

but the terrible rolling shutter makes handheld a real issue. From what I've seen the sharper looking hd on the EOS-R uses the crop mode which has bad RS

Actually in some shots the skin looked like the old yellow Nikon look. In fact the colors in that video look like the colors you get from a Nikon when you shoot at iso 6400. But hey, I don't want to ruin the party ?

The rolling shutter in this video looks just as bad in 4K as the one you posted on the eos r, why won't you show your comparison result?

DPreview (Jordan Drake aside), Kai (without Lok), Tony & Chelsea, Fro etc.. are all general photography based channels. They don't really know/care about video stuff , beyond the basics..
The few video channels that exist are either biased to a system, or sponsored by camera stores / manufacturers (ie shills).
Not many independant, cross platform reviewers out there..aside from Andrew.
I thought his review of EOS R was rather balanced, was expecting him to just rip it to shreds honestly. But he gave it some credit where it was due.
..and indeed pointed out it's giant flaws for video, rightfully so. i wanna hear the good & the bad in a review. not just one side & not just the obvious stuff.
RS is a serious issue. Bigger issue then the crop factor imo. I'm only using 4K on EOS R for locked tripod shots, but if it weren't the case.. it would be basically unusable.
Anyways let's all take a deep breath, we're all in here with a common passion & these gear wars are getting out of hand..

The earliest initial impression I had of the EOS R was the rolling shutter. The earliest impressions I had of the Z7 was that it was nicer than my Sony A7R III in the hand, and in terms of the image, and the rolling shutter didn't stand out as anything abnormal, unlike on the EOS R. It just wasn't an issue for me. Ditto on the D850. It wasn't immediately obvious from the get go, the minute I opened the box.
So we're 10 minutes into Kai's video, out of 13 minutes and yes it seems there's a 2 second mention. So I should probably give him the benefit of the doubt. But when I watched it the first time just after release as a subscriber to his channel, I am pretty sure it wasn't in. There are such a thing as ninja edits and re-uploads. But let's be clear, I've nothing personal with Kai, he could be a nice guy, but he doesn't help our cause as customers - he doesn't give the problem any gravitas. He's not even a proper reviewer. He's an entertainer. He turns it into a positive in those few seconds of a mention, which are just soft pawing out claims to the effect of the 1080p "has an advantage" because it has less rolling shutter than 4K, 'just like that wonderful best selling 5D IV you all bought'. That's how it comes across to me. It may technically be a 'mention of rolling shutter' but it's not a mention in the sense I meant it in my article - a mention of just how BAD the rolling shutter is on this camera. He just sweeps it under the rug in less than 5 seconds in a 13 minute video and doesn't really criticise it. That's the *whole point* I was making in the article - none of them mentioned the rolling shutter in terms of it being amongst the worst on the market in 2018 and immediately OBVIOUS straight out of the box in 4K.
So whilst @jonpais is calling EOSHD "fake news" and telling me how to run the site, perhaps he should realise one thing. I am a bit disappointed by his remarks. All the squabbling on the forums over the past few months from him and the Sony fanboyism in every subject, treating some threads like his own private inbox for chats and arguments, all leave a bitter taste for me because he's a long-time member. He seems to have gone from productive posting in the early days of the forum about Panasonic, up through being rewarded by being promoted to a mod, back down to being a non-mod due to bad behaviour, and now he's cruising for a bruising or even a ban. I just find that incredibly self destructive.

The crop 1.8x is maths, and reality has yet to be measured - I'll compare it to the C500 with the same lens, and to 1.5x APS-C cameras and other stuff we know the exact crop of and show visually how it compares.
I said in the article that it may even be doing a 4096 pixel wide sensor readout to maintain the 1.74x crop of the 5D Mark IV in Ultra HD. Takes that, and downsamples to 3840 pixels wide, rather than crops more into the image. We don't know for sure, but when you're in 1.6x crop mode, it certainly doesn't FEEL like 1.8x crop when you hit record.

yeah i suggested this too here on my first day with EOS R: EF-S crop mode in FHD appears super sampled, just like the 1080p HDMI output is in 4K mode (same as in 1DC/1DX2/5D4)

Don't forget 1DX2 does 4K60p at APS-H format which is still larger sensor coverage than any of the competition. As well as some of the best 120fps at 1080p.
So Canon aren't that far behind tech wise when they want to. In fact i believe 1DX2 was by far first to do 4K60p in a hybrid cam.
It's hence quite forseeable that the higher end pro model mirrorless Canon have been hinting at will inherit 1DX2 specs and maybe even give us FF 4K.
IBIS however hasn't been done in any Canon camera AFAIK and really needs to happen soon. Fuji did it, less than 2 years after claiming it was impossible so I don't see why a camera company with as much R&D as Canon couldn't solve it either.

The problem with Jon is he clearly has zero interest in EOS R (or Nikon Z, XT3, P4K etc). His only purpose in these threads is to point out the cameras limitations ad eternum & try and prove how superior his own camera is (currently A7III, formerly GH5). He isn't the only member using such tactics.. they exist on every gear forum, but often times it gets quite snarky, borderline troll.. and threads get derailed like this one right now.. again.

Got to the end. Not once does he mention the extreme rolling shutter in 4K!
It's like going for a test drive, the dealer not mentioning the steering wheel is bent, and the driver not even noticing!
They are both soft. It looks similar to the old 5D Mark III (stock video mode) in 2012. There's 6 years of Canon progress for you.

Out of likes. Yeah to me it is just about the least effort other than the lenses they could have done. If it had IBIS and no crop, or say a 1.3 crop well sure, but what a let down for Canon shooters. And $2,299.00 to boot. At the least bring out the high end one at the same time, and not some goofy 4000 plus dollar thing. They just seem clueless to me. This puts them pretty much dead last on all the new stuff that has come out.

Here is a quick shootout of the Fuji X-T3, Canon 1DXMk2, Canon C200 and Panasonic GH5S. Granted FCPX refused to not blowout some of the footage of camera B. It's displayed correctly in some of the head to head comparisons. I think it might have been caused by a software bug in FCPX. In any case all four cameras were filming in base ISO in controlled lighting. Opinions welcomed.

I had a go at the EOS R today. Took a while to wrap my head around it and get it fully setup the way I liked but was a happy camper after that.
I'm happy to report the 1080p is a lot sharper then 5D3/5D4 (almost C100 sharp) especially with the awesome RF lenses (the 50mm 1.2 RF is crazy btw).
4K has poor RS.. but the ALL-I codec produces pretty thick quality files with nice motion. C-log looks really good too (with classic EOS cinema & C200 color matrix options).
Movie IS coupled to the bi-directional lens IS was really steady.
Stuck my 35mm 1.4L via adapter and was pretty much close to native performance..
All in all i'm pretty pleased/impressed by the camera (despite its obvious limitations) and look forward to trying it out further once I acquire it next week.
PS: i'm having trouble reading the 4K MP4 files inside Davinci/FCPX (getting media offline error) anyone know what that's about??

The Fujifilm X-T3 is a hell of a camera no doubt, but another thing many seem to forget is when you buy a body, you also need to buy lenses. When you take into account the entire Fujifilm echo system, you start to understand that that the system cost is much much lower than virtually every other camera system out there. You will pay many times more for equivalent build and optical quality when comparing what Panasonic, Canon and other can offer. I think the Fujifilm lenses compare more rightly against the Panasonic Leica lenses, and far outclass the standard Panasonic lenses.
