The S5 and S1 are fantastic for everything other than AF compared to Canon and Sony. So it depends on your priorities.

I know you shoot both video and photo so your needs are very specific but when I shoot wedding videos (solo) I have 2 approaches.
    1. Zoom. In my case the S1 with the 24-105. it gets everything done apart from real low light. I have a couple of 1.8 primes to deal with that. Still means changing lenses
    2. Film everything on 1 prime. I have done this a few times with a 35 and have really enjoyed the experience and result. It means moving around a bit more but with lighter gear and makes you think your shots more. Maybe not for every wedding but when it works it’s very liberating.

XH2 first impressions vs Lumix S1R
Nice semi matte paint job and build quality initially seems around comparable.
Not that much smaller but considerably lighter with equivalent lens.
I weighed them both with battery, cards and 24-105mm f4 Lumix and Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 (25-105 equiv) and the difference was exactly 505g, ie, 1/2 kilo or basically 1lb difference.
Handling/ergo-wise, the S1R takes all my fingers around the grip but the XH2, just 3 so for me needs either something like a Smallrig L bracket or battery grip.
As things stand, I still have to test the thing for photo & video but all things being well, this would become my prime stills workhorse and I think I’d go for the battery grip as it would bring the weight up to more or less the the same as the S1R, albeit physically bigger but with at least double the battery life.
I was looking at the Nikon Z9 so the battery gripped XH2 could be looked at as the poor man’s Z9. And actually available to buy!
I will do some video (and stills) tests over the coming weeks but looking good so far…

I love my Panasonics but I’m on a shoot now where Sony AF would really help. I hope this camera makes then release a S5h/mk2 with stellar AF and no crop in 4K 50p. As far as I’m concerned they have until spring to convince me to stick with them. Otherwise I’d probably sell the lot and get the FX30 x2 and a A7C for photos.

It's not a revolutionary camera, but it's very competitively priced, which I think is the main goal. I think they understand that there's a segment of their customers that won't shoot on anything that isn't full frame so this probably isn't going to hurt those sales anyway, at least not to the extent that it'd hurt more than they gain from bringing more people into their ecosystem with a camera like this.
I really don't want to go with Sony, but getting 2 or 3 of these might be the direction I end up going. Though I have a Lumix S5 and quite like it I've never been someone that particularly cares about full frame, so "downgrading" doesn't really matter to me. The lack of video features that even the entry level S5 has is frustrating, though and might be enough to make me wait to see what Panasonic does.

They only needed to do it 2 years ago with the S5…but even if possible, that would have severely compromised the S1 line for sure.
    S1 probably too big/heavy to be a YouTubers fave I suspect…
It does keep coming back to the same old thing for me and that they are ALL good enough and ALL of them are compromised in one way or another be it price or size or weight or some ‘missing’ feature etc.
For me, the new Hassleblad is the king for stills…but it lacks any video capability and for me, that’s a dealbreaker.
The Z9 is the best hybrid (all of these my opinion for my needs BTW) but the size & weight…
    R5? Questionable potential overheating…
    A7iv? Cropped 4K 50p.
    Lumix S bodies? Cropped 4K 50p and a bit of a size & weight issue S1 line.
Lumix GH6? M4/3 for my stills needs is an issue as is the AF.
OM-1? Just the stills and flip out screen actually but for me, beats GH6.
XH2/S? Closest to my needs…but as a pairing with my sole ‘issue’ being flip out side screen.
Indeed. Preorder went in on the off-chance I could get an XH2 and lens prior to my final job until March next year as nothing beats a real wedding when it comes to…well wedding capture 😜
There are still 4 working days left but with zero notification, it’s looking unlikely but yes, that ball is in Panasonics hands entirely. Well Panny plus Sigma and Leica actually because it would only take one of them to produce a body that meets my minimum requirement. Panny is most likely, but I’d go and will go whatever direction, whatever brand, zero loyalty, who can produce the closest to my needs by the end of next Feb absolute latest.

I have no doubt that if they'd switched to PDAF 3 or 4 years ago they'd be neck and neck with Canon and Sony. Sony no doubt has their diehard fans, but a Lumix S1 or S5 with PDAF would've been THE YouTuber camera. Whether we like them or not, those are the users that will help ensure a company's longevity.

I agree, but I acknowledge what they need to do and that the long term viability of their camera division depends on getting rid of the AF stigma.
It's one thing when it's people just repeating the things they saw on YouTube but never have had actual experience with a Panasonic camera, but I own a S5, a GH5, a G85, and a GX85. I've also owned the GH3. I use these cameras for professional work, and have an interest in seeing Panasonic succeed because I am invested in their systems. While the autofocus performance on the GH5 was always better than people gave it credit for, and I find the S5 to be pretty good in that department overall, that doesn't matter if the majority of the market thinks that Panasonic AF is completely useless. The market has spoken, whether we agree or not, and they need to do something about it.
The S5 is genuinely my favorite camera I've ever used. I'll probably end up buying at least one more, given the price and quality. But I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge that my eyes are looking towards the future, and it's becoming increasingly harder for me to see myself sticking with Panasonic if they can't guarantee their longevity in a shrinking camera market. I want my camera equipment to be serviceable, and I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of lenses and accessories that belong to a dead system. A lot of folks don't care about that stuff, bless their hearts, but I do. If in the next couple of years a Canon/Sony/Fuji camera comes along that offers everything I need for my specific kind of work and at a good value, it will be very hard not to unload my Panasonic gear while it still has some value and move on if they haven't improved their image problems.
There are a lot of people like @MrSMW and myself who are looking for a reason NOT to jump. The ball is in Panasonic's court whether we do or not.

Ok, I'm interested to know your motives and next move! I'm thinking of holding on until the rumoured S5H is released to see how the AF is (I know, I know 🤪). But I was at a wedding where someone was using a Canon R6 and seeing the continuous AF working was eye opening. They were taking photos but they showed me how it worked in video. He said he hadn't missed a photo in the whole wedding and it's more or less the same with video. He said now he really only has to worry about exposure and composition most of the time, which on a long job like a wedding, would make life a lot easier.
So I guess AF will be one of your reasons!

For me, I would ideally like to see:
    For definite:
    A. Official confirmation a successor to the S5 and S1 is coming, even if it’s going to be one single line.
    B. An announcement date plus a launch date.
    Ideally:
    C. Whether they are moving to PDAF.
    D. Whether 4K 50/60/100/120 is going be cropped.
With a season that starts in April each year, I need to be ready to go at least a full month in advance, fully tested, familiar with, batteries, chargers, processing, quirks etc.
If A & B happen before the end of this year, there is still a chance for me with L Mount, but even then, C & D also really need to be on the cards because if not, there are other options.
And I am not holding my breath…but would still like to see it.

I should add, that even now I have been making arguments to stick with L Mount at least until a point where I am forced into making a decision.
The problem is that with nothing but rumors and speculation regarding the future of L Mount, there is nothing to base any decision on other than ‘if’.
I have often thought manufacturers shoot themselves in the foot by being so Secret Squirrel about their plans…

One but far from the principal and not anywhere near enough reason alone.
But not to keep you in suspense, basically moving from what was a 4 camera plus back up camera plus 8 lens approach with L Mount (Panny & Sigma) to a 3 body + 4 lens Fuji system.

I don't think IBIS is designed to replace a tripod (although Panasonic has a pretty good IBIS tripod look). It's more for making handheld shooting look great compared to what it used too (even with a IS lens).

To me IBIS is a God send because my kind of work is fast paced and as such I need to match that pace. IBIS gives me a fighting chance to get stabilized shots filming unpredictable movement, like you'll get in pro-wrestling.
The rest though I agree fully on.

    Define ‘good’….
A bit mental is the term I would use.
Since 8th April, other than 2 family days off, I have worked every day min 12 hours, whether that be shooting, traveling to or from, or editing/doing admin.
I am currently 4.5 weddings behind on the editing side.
By the end of this month, I will be 9 weddings behind…
I am never behind. Well rarely by 1 or 2 max and I quickly catch up during the season, but this one is the mother of all seasons.
And then there will still be the Sep jobs and 1 in early Oct.
Some great events and couples. Some less so…
It will take me up until the end of Nov at least to catch up and then I can breathe once more.
The downside has been that in 2021 when I shifted to L Mount, I had a more limited kit but made the best use of it.
This year has added more (needed) kit and I have juggled various combos around but the problem has been I have had to shoot another 2-3 weddings before I fully know the result of any prior wedding where I have made changes.
Only a few blips along the way and a couple of bits of kit I intended to sell, I have kept and I don’t miss anything I have sold.
Sold the Panny 85mm f1.8 and the freebie Sigma 45mm f2.8 with zero regrets.
Not yet sold the DJI Action 2 which is the only bit of kit I am not using.
Back on the fence over the VND EF to L Mount adapter and Meike cine lens and it’s the other bit of kit I have shelved. Just can’t find a place for it now I’ve moved a few lenses around. Pity because the quality it produces is great.

Any more news on the S5H? From what I've seen it looks like a Sony A7S3 type. 4K beast. It would really need much improved AF, LCD and EVF as well as continuous recording in 10bit and no crop at less than 2500€ to make any sense.

Thinking about it seriously there are a few things Panasonic will need to do to keep me with them (S5H or S1H2).
Improve AF drastically. It doesn't need to be the best in the world but it needs to be reliable not like it is now where it can have a mind of it's own.
Punch in to check focus whilst recording.
No crop 4-5K at 25, 50 and 100 all in 10bit. If they could stretch to 6K that'd be even better.
    No time limit.
EVF must be the one on the S1 not the S5.
Screen should be the same as the GH6 with flexi-postion thingy.
Prores on SDs would be great.
Lock or change shutter speed wheel.
They have got just about everything else right.

    Yep, that's the same rumor...
"According to foreign news sources", ie, absolutely no one, - this 'news' was something lifted off a rumors site and is doing the rounds.
And anyway, what's "and supports 16:9 Billy 4.8K60P video"?
And what's this 15mp sensor? Sounds a bit of a weird size to me and they can forget all photo credibility if they wish to market anything like that as a genuine hybrid. Half the size of a new 30mp if anything?
Not because 15mp is not enough for stills for most people most of the time, myself included, but because for marketing purposes, if you are not at least even competitive...
A 15mp sensor coupled with DFD AF smells like disaster to me...
But I doubt the credibility of this rumor anyway and it's far from being credible.
I do believe they are working on something, but until anything comes from a reliable source or is official, I'm not going to be holding my breath.
I'm all for any successor to the S5 or S1 line. In fact, I am waiting on it because until anything is confirmed (and it ticks my boxes), I am both sticking with what I am already using and have no concrete plans to switch to any other system. Thought right now, I can make arguments for; Fuji, Canon and Sony...

So I'm late to the party, but I've had the S5 for a few days and I must say I'm genuinely impressed. It's a real joy to use. It kind of blows my mind that it's an entry level camera, because it's capabilities are impressive.
First, I was wrong to write it off because of the recording limit in 10-bit and 60p. It'd have been nice to not have those limits, but the 8-bit is quite nice with good colors SOOC. I think it will be more than sufficient for my event work, though I'll know for sure after this weekend.
Low light is very good, at least as someone coming from a GH5. Speaking of the GH5, I've been able to match the two pretty easily. I was worried that wouldn't be the case, but I think using the GH5 and my G85 will work out okay as b and c cams.
I LOVE that I not only can use the XLR module but that I can lower the pre-amps more than the GH5. That was always something that has bugged me.
There aren't a ton of 3rd party accessories. It came with 3 OEM batteries, but I bought some third party batteries from Newmowa. They work pretty good, though after using the OEM batteries and seeing how long they last I probably didn't need to get them. They work with the GH5 though, so they're not a waste. I wish there was a third party battery grip, and more options for cages. Mine came with a Small Rig cage, which is okay, but it doesn't feel as robust and protective as the GH5 cage I have.
Overall I'm very pleased. I had no intention of getting it until I was offered a great deal on one. Now I'm contemplating picking up a second one and going with two S5s and one GH5 for my set up. That probably won't happen for a while, but in the span of a week I went from being pretty resistant to going with Panasonic for full frame to debating buying a second FF Panny camera. 🤦🏻‍♂️
