Simon Young reacted to wolf33d in Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
@Emanuel don’t bother answering to this guy. Could have been funny, but he is so retarded it’s actually sad.

I thought the point of this forum was to share ideas and tips and tricks and knowledge, not litter the threads with posts about what we think this or that particular device is lacking and how we would buy stuff if they only had this or that feature :)))))))) :PpppppPPPppPp
like, we all know the new canon has a big ass crop in 4K and only one card slot, just like the Nikon, and we all know there’s no full frame consumer camera that does 4K 60p internally, fucking move on ;););););)

Ah great so you bought one? or what precisely does the Z6 autofocus have to do with 4K 60p?

Go and buy the X-T3 or the GH5/s.

Simon Young got a reaction from Emanuel in Nikon Z7 is at EOSHD HQ - better video than Sony?
I agree with you, it’s a more balanced hybrid than the GH5 imo, hence why I bought it. But the gh-series have been video oriented since forever and it’s obvious that Nikon has some catching up to do with regards to tweakable settings, codec etc. Still a lot better in the autofocus department though
Something i really love with the X-T3 is the possibility to lock auto white balance. Why aren’t more camera companies implementing this? It’s perfect for docu work.

I just got my Z6 and so far in terms of output I think it has the Sony beat (at least the ones I’ve owned and used, a7rIII and a7III). The video autofocus seems to be on par with the Sonys.
Colors out of camera are nicer, the IBIS better, the flat profile with sharpness dialled down looks more organic with a decent dynamic range considering it’s not a true log profile.
The Z6 however still has nothing on the GH5-series when it comes to rolling shutter, overall useability and codec.

My Z6 came in yesterday after much delay. I plan on shooting connected to our Ninja V. I suspect this will give it a decided edge over the GH5/S.
Rolling shutter is not a issue in our use case. I think the ergonomics will grow on you. The GH5/S is a great video camera, but I suspect the Nikon will be the more balanced hybrid.
That said, we just got this camera, so our opinions may change.

I disagree with this. I would most of the time prefer an f4 zoom to an f2.8. Weight and size are important things. Even if I had unlimited money.
I often prefer f1.8 primes to f1.4. I don’t know what other people do, but I hike a lot. There is no way I am carrying that huge heavy glass for a bit more light. I’d rather put those grams into a tripod than carry a super fast super heavy prime that gives me marginally more capability (nothing compared to said tripod).
Fast primes are for the ability to get an extra stop or so when hand holding or needing a fast shutter.
Or sometimes if the background is terrible and you want to blur it out (although in my experience this should be avoided as much as possible since the background often tells the story).
Thats why I find Canons R release of first lenses very strange. I’m sure the optics are beautiful but it’s incredibly rare that the tiny bit of extra light is worth the huge weight. Talk about diminishing returns.
The little 35 they released is not top quality L glass, unlike the Nikkor 35 & 50 “S” (for super) f1.8. Some are confused and seem to think these lenses is like your 150$ plastic f1.8. Not the case. I applaud that I get the option of slower, but still top of the line quality glass. I hope that continues and I hope we get top quality 800-1200$ f4 or even f5.6 primes. Along with the fast stuff for those who need it.
IBIS does not replace fast glass, but sure does replace the need for it some of the time.

On the Nikon Z7 how much difference does 10bit N-LOG make?
Is there a step up from the Canon EOS R when you record 10bit externally?
How does the Fuji X-T3 compare in F-LOG at 10bit internally?
All the questions and more I set out to answer here...

Simon Young reacted to Andrew Reid in New firmware Panasonic GH5/GH5S autofocus shootout. Does it match the Fujifilm X-T3, Nikon Z7, Sony A7 III and Canon EOS R?
It says in that video Nino was also using the Olympus 25mm F1.2.
Maybe it has a twat detection system?

I like a lot what I see here, but seems Sony has some metering issue (or profile?).. look at the clipped highlights in 8 bit part:

By the footage is seems to have at least as good image quality as the Z7. Rolling shutter seems better, definitely my next camera

It does show the auto iris being very ugly, and autofocus hunting and being very ugly. The slider shot looks so bad.

Seemed like a mixed bag. Some third party didn’t work at all (yet), some were almost as good, some worse. The Nikkor 105 f1.4 and 85mm 1.4 performed basically the same.
Its worth noting that he’s comparing it to one of the fastest AF cameras on the planet. I wish he would have included a Z lens as a baseline for the Z7. Also wonder how it would compare to older cameras like the D800/D700/D610 et c.
Mirrorless has come a long way to even be comparable to a new DSLR. Still some ways to go.

Yes sure Mattias C100 ii is a workhorse, trusted, familiar and reliable. I am more interested in auteur filmmaking and cinematography, where you'd go to great lengths to bring a Russian LOMO anamorphic into service for the hell of it... Beautiful artistic reasons over efficiency. Slowly crafting something rather than delivering for a client and getting paid. It's different mindset. Here the camera isn't just a gear in the job machine. For same artistic reasons you may want full frame, which rules out C100 II. For same artistic reasons you may not want to shoot 1.8x crop from a $3000 full frame lens and might consider the $3000 better spent on glass for a Nikon Z7.
As well as the artistic side, where the EOS R fails to excite me, it fails to excite me equally as much on the technical side. It's just old chips. Old sensor. Not exactly an X-T3 or Z7. I have a blog to write about innovative camera technology. Not much to say about the EOS R on that front but the lenses are good.

Ahh, I didn't realize that, aside from assigning it to a button, the lock WB has its own setting in the menu that needs to be set. Toggle on!

It's been noticed in the back-end of the site that some new users are joining in order to future the agendas of PR and marketing at some companies.
It's a tricky area for me to deal with, but I'll get some advice on how to better detect it and prevent it from happening in the future.
Whilst I know it is happening, the evidence as to what exact company is responsible for which posts isn't solid enough yet to go naming them.
But rest assured if I do find out, they will be named and shamed on the front page of EOSHD.

@Brian Williams You know that there is a white balance lock setting on the x-t3? It’s genius. Let the camera set the white balance of a certain scene, which it does pretty well in most cases, then push the button you assigned to lock white balance. This is something I wish more cameras would implement.
