Is the s35 on the 1dc a 4K oversampling like the c100 is? The c100/300 seems to have that "oversampled" look to it, which I like, but I'm not sure my 1DC in s35 has quite that amount detail.  Can anyone point to a good comparison of the s35 of the 1DC vs the c100.

It's a totally different sensor. Which is a good thing because I believe the 1dc sensor is superior to the C100 sensor. More mojo.

But I think cinema 5d did some tests back in the day with 1dc vs c100 s35. I need to do my own tests though I've been curios too.

Are people in this thread for real or just trolling? And some wonder how the world has failed...

Be aware that the HDMI out on 1DC has a ~200ms lag

Ya I noticed with my monitors and old Zacuto EVF. The Gratical will be future proof though and will be used on other productions with other cameras.

Actually this shows SPECIFICALLY your "hit" - $550 bucks.  Used was $5k a month ago, now $4450.  Once you factor in the $50 or so shipping, it was a $500 "hit" - could you rent one for a month and take out of the country for $500?  No.  Did you make more than $500 using it for the month?

    I have said my piece.

Part of his argument on why it was ok was the fact that Adorama is a "huge company".  That should have 0 bearing and you know it.

The one I had was a totally different rating. I'm seeing the same quality of 1dc going for $3999 now online on B&H and eBay.

And yes. You are right. I came out on top with what a rental vs return would have been. But how is that wrong again? I am baffled that this argument is still going on? I followed all the rules of purchase and return. How does a rental fee have anything to do with it? I wasn't satisfied with my purchase. If the price drop didn't happen within my 30 day window I wouldn't have returned it.

Well let's see - had he bought a NEW one I certainly could see that - but he bought a used one for $5k a month ago.

It's not a $3k hit by any stretch, and B&H (and Adorama) both show their used 1dc's as "unreturnable".  Unless there are $2k used 1dc's out there, I highly doubt he took a 3k hit.  But, clearly none of you work on the business sales side of things - what did Adorama do wrong here?  They sold him a product; he used it for professionally and mentioned several times how much he loved it.  We all make gambles buying used gear as far as price.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.  But, we all have our own set of principles.  Carry on...

So it's ok because they're a huge company?  You sound like a typical Democrat.

To reiterate - they didn't see any usage because he only took video, which doesn't register on the shutter count.

    B.  No $5k hit; he bought used.

    C.  Adorama sold him a good working camera that he took out of the country twice and got paid to use for free.

If this is fine by you to "stick it to the man" then that's fine.  I just don't do things like this, big company or small.

Actually...If I bought it new then it would be non refundable. Used doesn't state that its non refundable...

For the record....I love to stick it to the man. But I haven't done that here. I followed every rule and did literally nothing wrong here. According to their own return policy, by me simply being dissatisfied (price drop) is all that is needed for a valid refund. That is all. I didn't loose $3000. More like $1,000 in the used market. Thats still pretty sucky! Hence my dissatisfaction.

I guess they noticed the "C" badge was deeper red colour cause the blood...

Oh gosh. Don't even remind me of that terrible incident!! Lol. I'm just glad he's fine now.

  6. From Adorama:

"We believe that in order to have the best possible online shopping experience, our customers should be 100% satisfied with their purchase. So, if you're not happy with your purchase for any reason, just go through our easy self-service return process."

I wasn't 100% satisfied because within that 30 day window the price of the camera went down $3000. That's reason enough according to them to be able to return it. They ran tests on it and responded to me that everything was fine and they clearly saw my usage of it. They still issued the refund. I don't feel like this was a wrong thing at all. Nothing in their return policy does it say "if used on paid work returns aren't allowed". If anything I would think that that's the best way to decide if your "100% satisfied". To use it in paid work environments since that's the way you're gonna be using it if you decide to keep it.

I am too, just in different ways.  More of an asshole than a dick.  You are a dick though for sure.  :)

We must live on different planets Dave - I've bought and returned $1000 used cameras from B&H after using them for maybe 75 clicks and felt extremely guilty about returning them.  Not take a $5k camera on two international trips and then openly discuss returning it to Adorama on a popular website.

Clearly doing paid work and then returning the gear used is a dick move IMO, but then to mention the details in a public forum is even worse.  But what do I know.

    Sorry I'm a dick

I owned the 1dc.  The 108060 is softer than the 5d3's 1080p24/30.  It looks like upscaled 720p to me.

So you took the camera on two international trips and used it extensively and still returned it for a full refund?

Yes. Adorama has a no questions asked 30 day return policy. As long as it's in good condition and all the pieces are still there

What announcements are you waiting on... Because that 1dc was in capable hands.

I'm waiting on Photokina. Supposed 5d4 rumors that seem interesting and possible C100 mk3 at some point. We'll see.

  10. I bought my 1DC used a month ago just two weeks before the price drop. Paid $5,000 used. Just returned it and got a full refund! Now I may re purchase it new or hold out for what will happen in the next two months before I make a decision. I know that I LOVE the IQ of 1DC and my clients were very pleased with the way the footage came out in Mexico and Guatemala. I can't believe I got a refund. Kinda like a free 1 month rental!

Question: To those that have worked with most of these cameras, Alexa is killing it... but comparatively... lets look at the next tier.

Do you think that Canon has a better image coming out its Cinema cameras as opposed to Red???

No. I really think Sony with the FS line and Canon with their C line are truly a step down from the Red and Arri world. I always choose to use Canon C for convenience and budget. Not IQ necessarily.

  12. Interesting info guys. Thanks for sharing. The Raven is a really attractive camera to me still though because of the weight and size. Fits on a MoVI M5 and would sit nicely in my small think tank bag with my 1DC. Two small little cinema machines. Plus the RED name is so attractive to producers.

  13. Good to know. Interesting thing about the noise. The skin tones look better to me than MX ever was. I'm considering buying a Raven but I'm a little hesitant because the crop factor and data management. I love my 1DC but long for HFR. Raven has some lovely options for high frame rates especially at that price.

  14. Curious to know if any of you have had experience with Red Dragon sensor. I'm hearing lots of mixed reviews on it. I've shot with MX multiple times but actually haven't worked with Dragon yet.

That is a massive problem is it with an FS7/C300?

Even a small FS5 would be troublesome?

Yes! My friend had his C300 held at customs his entire trip in Nicaragua. They wouldn't let him bring it into the country without a ridiculous tax fee. He just shot the promo with his iPhone that week.
