Japan and Germany are both top-teir manufacturing countries with the best and most advanced skills and factories.
Even if it is thought of as a full frame Panasonic GH5 with Leica's ergonomic design and custom lens mount, that's fine by me.
A lot of Leica's best lenses were made in Canada any way  Noctilux among them.

Alot of electronics is made in Germany. Just look at the iphone. Its designed in the US and assembled in china.
But the majority of the iphones components and profit comes and goes from Germany, Japan and South Korea.

Are some of you guys still shooting film? I have recently started to shoot analog stills again after a 10 years abstinence or so and I have to say I am blown away how awesome the stuff is looking adding to this the  darkroom experience. Makes me want to get a 16mm camera or something altough I would feel slightly cuckoo....

    Hey,
I hope you don't cruzify me for trolling but I am spending my time at a fair at the moment and there are video crews shooting all the time at our stand and it is quite interesting to see what they are shooting with and how.
All the standarts have been here but I just wanted to share this one that blew me away...
Flatpack all-in-one video rig. There is a mic plugged in which a lady is holding interviewing the bearded gentleman, LED light on top and mic holder, too.

sorry for the poor photo quality

Silly Asians, always taking footage with their tablet.

I'm interested in the Rollei cage though. Fits a bunch of cameras. Nice expandability.
I've seen projects like the one above on crowdfunding campaigns (Kickstarter/Indiegogo). Though I guess they're more for smartphones and GoPros.

Millions were making films and taking pictures in the past. Maybe Super 8 was more popular than filming with DSLR? Don't think that billions of batteries and old DSLRs are so environmentfriendly. My cameras and projectors are 40 years old and still work. That's possibly better than buying a new camera every year...
Back on topic: I think it should be mentioned that we are talking about reversal film here. And that is what makes it so fantastic. As for color stock we only have Vision left and you have to go to Andec-lab in order to let them make a positive. As a filmmaker I always prefer the projection. For me that is the point of film... (I am an enthusiast)

All shot on the D750 with Nikon Ais (besides a few 120fps NX1 slowmo shots which are easy to pick out)
For narrative stuff I'v been using it over my NX1 for awhile.

Those were the good times back when we were in med school, stealing xray film and chemicals to take 8x10" nudes, eating fetus to become stronger, having fun with the resident nurses, and kodachrome, oh god, kodachrome you still remember that one time...

I am so desperate of fresh color reversal s-8 stock. I have only a dozen left in the fridge... so this is really, really great news. Lets hope Ferrania will pull out a cheaper option (they will for sure not be on the same level quality wise) like it was in the past with Agfa. Matters: I absolutely agree: I have 4 blurays but 100 S-8 feature films. Projecting a movie is so different and has some magic I can't explain.
It has c-mount (comes with cheap Ricoh...) but many downsides. I would not buy it. There are enough better and cheaper alternatives.

Maybe Kodakchrome could come back but it wont. What was it, 7 baths or something to process and an archival lifespan of just 20 years?
I dont know many Hipsters that shoot film. Frankly I dont know any, they are a lazy bunch. It smore for people who really enjoy photography and film making as an art imo.
I believe the reason its coming back is because after all these years digital still can't beat it. Digital is nice but film is nicer. Every time I watch a Blueray of any old movie I blown away of how much digital suck in comparison
Also digital large format doesnt exist and medium format is still out of reach for most. A film MF is $7.
(This of course depended on your definition of "better" and what aspect of image quality you rank highest.)
Ps. Fun fact I heard but dont know if true, Fujifilms Instax division is currently their most profitable business...
I know Im throwing money at them for my Instax printer

Best part is that Ektachrome is very easy to develop at home and s8 scanners are affordable or you can make a DIY.
Timming is also good as I developed my last roll I had this summer

You shouldn't feel at all crazy! There's so much to be desired in film that digital has yet to nail down. The dynamic range, color and shutter/motion that film has to offer combined with vastly improving film scan technology is a worthy enough pursuit. I've posted this before I think, but check out this gorgeous 2K scan from super 8 film:

Kodak Brings Back a Classic with EKTACHROME Film
Las Vegas, NV, Thursday, January 05, 2017
To the delight of film enthusiasts across the globe, Eastman Kodak Company today announced plans to bring back one of its most iconic film stocks.  Over the next 12 months, Kodak will be working to reformulate and manufacture KODAK EKTACHROME Film for both motion picture and still photography applications.  Initial availability is expected in the fourth quarter of 2017.

I'm not pre-ordering because it doesn't have the Auto Hollywood Mode, in which I'm guaranteed to be a Hollywood cinematographer. I don't want to buy lights and go to all that effort just to get a usable picture at night time. ;-D
In all seriousness, the camera seems like a no-brainer. I had and loved the GH3. But I'll be waiting for these firmware updates and some user experiences / knowledge before placing an order. I made that mistake with the RX10 II (which didn't work out for me at all).
I also need to break in my A6500 first!

    The 85 1.4 D doesn't feel solid. The G and D render differently, I prefer the G.

    The 85 1.4D is a tank, the 85mm 1.8D is terrible however.

I haven't had the 1.4D in hands but other full metal AF-D's like the 20-35 2.8 are filthy tanks compared to the plastic shells of the cheaper D versions. Yes I really liked the 1.8G I tested, too
