I needed quickly a boom pole for a project but I had no time to order it so I made it myself :D looks a bit ridiculous, but worked very well
It is made from an extendable pole (for painters), something like this, one T tube, one reduction tube and some rubber bands, costs me around 7 euros :D works like a charm with the NTG-2 :D

NAP was my first anamorphic attachment i got. Just placed front glass on the rig and put rear int the lens hood. With that i could focus as close as i want, easiest modding ever and best what u can get in terms of IQ and possibilities of using fast lenses. Im using it in my 4x ana project and done a lot of experiments with it. Yes its built like tank and weighs the same, but "not sharp"?) Learn what "aligning" is)

The D16 isn't retro, the A7, X-T2, GH4 etc are. They look like old film SLRs. The D16 looks like a Cinema Camera

Any who, its all just a shame. Ive seen it happen with other cameras as well. People get hung up on some pseudo thing and it doesn't catch wind.
The BMCC and BMPCC did as well.
Before the "Fire sale" they where the most hated and talked down cameras on the internet. Totally trashed by reviewers because of their "odd shape" (non retro/DSLR). "Where is the viewfinder", "No stills", "NO bla bla bla".
Then the price drop and people actually used them, the rest is history.

I just hope we get another cinema camera that is as complete and low cost in the future. Sony, Blackmagic, Red, etc have all failed so far. They can deliver cameras with a good image and some cool features. But not all at once.

Luckily time and technology moves on so there will be plenty of cameras to love and hate in the future

I guess the Sun is same as Proskar lens.  If true, to compare with ISCO integrated lens, the difference is rear mount size, and flare .  But ISCO might be a little bit sharper, and less flare.

Imo the design is more professional and look more like a real cinema film camera. But people like DSLRs. Same thing when the BMCC came out. People and reviewers ripped on a cinema camera not being designed as a stills camera?? strange imo.
Regarding the "toy" design of the box etc, that is the same graphic design that all professional Bolex cameras have had, always. They just stayed true to the legacy.
And no, it did nor come in a leather bag, it came in a box, nothing more.
But I agree with you. They didn't do the best of marketing. If it was me I would have let the team step back and hire some snappy gents in suites for the publicity. Also I would have lended it to reviewers, they didn't. The only reviewer was PB who bought one and he is alway (imo) very unclear and doesn't have a broad perspective. So the pro use got lost in his review since he compared it to a F55, like everyone owned one of those.

(BTW, "Hipster" as far as I know means "I dont know what this is and feel embarrassed so I call it Hipster to hide my insecurity". Just saying  )

While I think your point is valid (event if not my personal thoughts), I don't think a Canon EF mount is a plus.
m4/3 is a much better option as there are more adaptable lenses available out there. (Anything with a shorter flange distance than EF/M42 cannot be adapted).
And you can still use EF & PL glass if you want.
Of course m4/3 will not give you access to full frame ... but I think it's overrated anyway :D S35 is just fine

some more pics of Metabones XL speedbooster on Panasonic G7s on the set of the Movie Pandora I'm DOP on .  Rigs are by Gini Rigs , Lenses are all Nikon 2.8 zooms
note calbe ties holding lenses front onto lens supprt so follow focus can work without any lens movement . Metabones are very snug tight fitting to G7 and Nikons lenses os no twist movement off follow focus at all . Follow focus is Gini Rigs filpped upside down to solve Nikon reverse focus issue ...this work really well !!

ps: this is a set.... thats not sunlight its a whole bunch of Arri 1K Pups behind the windows .

Better image, more features and out of the box costs more, that's just how it is.
A BMPCC + 5h battery + Dual XLR Audio Recorder with analog gain + a couple of hours of SD cards = Pretty much the same price, but with rolling shutter, less features, cmos look and more moire.
Imo its a good price. Doubt a URSA Micro would be cheaper.
I love my Blaclmagic so nothing against it. But bang for buck the D16 wins imo.
    See above.

To get the full frame equivalent, you have to multiply the focal distance of the lens (50mm in your case) and multiply it by the focal reducer coefficient (0.71x in your case I believe) to get the final Full frame equivalent (which makes ~35mm in your case).

They release new firmwares all the time. Its not an instant shut down. They are stopping the manufacturing of the D16. Upgrades and service will still be available.

Both the A7SII and Ursa Mini are good choices and very different. I think the URSA mini 4K is out of your budget though. it's 3k$ + 1.5k$ for the viewfinder.
Have you considered the JVC LS300 (4:2:2 in HD + XLR audio and ND filters in a small package) ? A GH4 + Speedbooster can be great too for events and higher end.

I find it sad when people buy gear but are too afraid to scratch it and end up don't using their gear full potential.
If my camera is scratched, it's because I had to put it in a tough environment to get the picture. If you're too afraid to damage your gear, you can still work in studios, where everything is immaculate. But personally, I'd be outside shooting

If you're getting lens-jumps with an FF on adapted lenses (turn the gear and the lens bumps up a hair), it's usually all the extra play that comes from the camera mount (still lens mounts aren't really designed for video) and the adapter (and I get bumps on Nikkors mounted direct to Nikkor bodies). Get an adjustable lens support on your rails, find a spot where it will fit without getting in the way of the FF, and push the lens up enough to take up the play. Your pulls should get solid then, works great for me. With a pancake lens, you might have to stick a metal hood on the front and put the support under the hood. You don't crank it until stuff bends, just enough to kill the play.
A rubber whip is icing on the cake, too.

Years ago I had the AF100 - the built in ND's as mentioned plus the ergo's far trump the Sony FS100 - I can't imagine dragging that rectangle brick around.  I prefer the skin tones from the Panny vs. the Sony as well.  With the 60p firmware update both will do 1080p60 and the Panny has some very cool over/under crank options and you can shoot 1 FPS timelapse with it.  Obviously the Sony has the advantage in low light but IMO that's it.  Maybe dynamic range also.  The AF100 was a great camera and I got some amazing shots with it.

The AF100 with an external recorder was the a-camera on The Raid: Redemption, an absolutely kick ass movie I don't recall a single person critiquing for its visuals.
Learn your way around it and you'll be fine.

Hey, Bought my AF100 a few mounts ago.
Just finished rigging it. And just got a used Atomos Samurai (not the blade version).
The AF100 is a tricky camera. It is easy to use, but you have to master the settings to get the best image out of it. I cannon recommend enough the AF100 book.
The package I got was AF100 + Panasonic 7-14/4 + Panasonic 14-140/4-5.6 + 2 batteries and a dead cheap SD Card (which is now stuck in the SD slot) for 1300€
The best thing about this camera is that it is ready to shoot run & gun. No need for external power, recorders or rig for handheld stuff.
