  1. I Know everyone likes to argue that resolution doesn't matter and 1080p is fine but IMO I think resolution will date your footage way more than color bit depth so lean towards resolution over bit depth.

It also might be worth shooting 60p. IMO I think we will see a big shift to 60p and away from 24/25/30p but this is just my opinion that has a lot to do with me personally liking the look of 60p :)

So, in the forums, people have noted that the sensor in the NX1 haves a similar look to the RED cameras.  Has any NX1 owners tried to maximize this effect so that the footage looks closer?  Regardless of how you "got" the look (camera settings, specific LUTs, coloring techniques)...

    If so, please share.

Where did you hear that the NX1 looks similar to RED cameras. I am not saying it isn't true I have just not hear this.

  3. So up until this point I have been trans-coding all my NX1 footage with RMMC to ProRes LT however I recently picked up a GTX 960 4GB on sale that has a HEVC hardware decoder.

Using MPC-HC with hardware decoding turned on the HEVC footage plays back perfectly at full resolution (4k). However in premiere pro CC it still drops a significant amount of frames even at 1/4 resolution and even before I add it to a timeline.

Is there any settings I need to configure in premiere to turn on the GTX 960 HEVC decoder or for improve the playback engine to HEVC?

EDIT: I did check and CUDA support is turned on.

I am hoping the same too, really don`t like sony look at all, so my hopes are here, otherwise will have to go canon route....sadly.

I have a question for you guys. What do you think effect the image of a camera the most?

    1. The sensor
    2. The codec
    3. The processor
    4. Other

no one has tried if it works?

I am confused as to what exactly you guys are trying to do? Are you trying to get the camera to dump the RAW sensor data out the HDMI port?

I dont know how external recorders work but I am sure it would have no idea what its looking at meaning every camera's RAW output would look different.

There's a huge difference in grading. Esp recovering highlights. The reports that stated otherwise are youtube bloggers who don't know what they are talking about.

I have always respected what the Northrup's do and say because the  actually do tests and show their results.

I am not saying that I don't want 10 bit 4:2:2 I think we need it but mostly because I see it as a steping stone to RAW witch IMO is the ultimate end goal never mind resolution or high frame rates.

That's because Samsung have sensibly included an internal cooling fan. It's extremely quiet but you can hear it if you put your ear to the back of the camera while it's on. I never knew it was there until I was filming in a totally silent forest and I could just hear a very, very quiet whirr out of the back of the camera. It wouldn't surprise me if the internal audio capture has a digital filter to remove that frequency from the audio tracks either.

As far as I know there is no fan inside the NX1

    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Samsung_NX1

There is also another PDF with high res photos of the disassembled NX1 floating around somewhere(I cannot find it right now) and that also doesnt show any fans.

Also the body is weather sealed so it does not have any vents and a fan without vents is pretty much useless.

I am not sure what noise you are hearing my NX1 is completely silent.

Latest update to the page on github is about one month old. I remember he said he was going to be away on august. We'll see...I hope he will give us something new!

It has been 2 months on git hub. Also I thought He said he was going to be back in august.

  9. Ok, so assuming all these rumors are true along with the usual bump in ISO and DR performance to be expect from one generation to the next (1/2 stop at most). Do you think it would be a better camera for video than the a7sii?

And if so, what rumored feature would have to be absent for the a7sii to beat it.

Also for simplicity sake lets leave price and the overheating issues of the sony out of this comparison.

  10. If all these rumors are true and the GH5 is going to ship early 2017 that would put it as the number 1 contender for my planned upgrade in about 6-8 months.

My only worry is what the high ISO is going to be like.

You're right I'm probably spoiled by the fact that the nx1 is so advanced but yet fails on these "basic" things.

You are just getting to that point when your camera is no longer the hot young thing it used to be and you are starting to lust after those younger bodies ;)

This only ever applies to camera bodies and not anything else lol.

Yesterday I shoot some clips at 6400 ISO and I'm seriously confused on how Samsung managed to get this bad image on the NX1. It doesn't even seem a NR thing just the sensor/HW that are bad designed. I'm considering getting A6300 for night shots B camera for little money if i'll ever need it. A6300 seems clean up to 12800. It probably didn't help that I was shooting at 60P.

Lets not forget the NX1 is almost two years old now. compariing it against the a6300 is not a fair comarison

Try enabling half stop ISO and see if you see a jump from 2000 to 2500. I believe the jump is there exactly. Seems completely software though... It seems like the jump also affects exposure.

I personally think what ever is happening is happening inside the HEVC encoder.

Has anyone tested the ISO of MJPEG on the NX1 and compared it to HEVC?

I thought @vasile was able to get the nx500 to record uncropped 4k with the latest hack?

I do not think so. I do not own an NX500 so take this with a grain a salt tho I am pretty sure this was never unlocked.

What ever happend to @vasile? I guess he got his hack to the level he was happy with then moved onto another project?
