PannySVHS reacted to Fritz Pierre in 28mm lenses with long focus throw? Usability of combined wideangle adapter
The rear bayonet mount is the depth of several filter rings...you have to build up the rings and glue them together so they become a solid mount, so that the front element of your 20mm fd will clear the rear element of the .7 adapter...as front elements on wider lenses bulge outwards, only you can make the call for how high you have to go, relative to the lenses you would use this adapter with (buy enough filter rings to accomplish this)...you also need a rail system to take a lens support, as the adapter weighs at least a lb. if I remember correctly...you can check the specs with the seller...or if you don't like rails, you can use this from Amazon....http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-293-Telephoto-Lens-Support/dp/B001BX3ZXE?tag=battleforthew-20....either way the strain on your camera mount is too great, but if like me you are addicted to buying lenses, this is a great solution...and lastly...the fd 17mm is @ f4 and almost twice the price and I think maybe fisheye??...and the adapter gets your 20 to 14...on an fd speedbooster you're nice and wide now...and that's just one lens!

PannySVHS got a reaction from Kurtisso in 1080 vs. 4K: What is REALLY necessary?
Hey Jason, I think 4K is good for some of us who need a nice HD image with consumer equipment. For Pros great Arri 2K, for indies Digi Bolex 2K is nicer than
4K from Panny and Sony consumer cams. But that Panny and Sony and Samsung 4K ist just so nice for us to shoot it with that affordable tech.
Though the Big Screen shows every single digital flaw to the image, but digital projection on 20 feet wide screens looks nice with consumer 4k downscaled HD.

just set on manual mode and focus to infinity...  a little scotch tape can block the focus ring if necessary

Thanks Panny, yes the less I do modification in post, the more I feel good  And yes I put infinity on the prime lens and focusing with the focus module. The very closed shots are taken with a + 3 diopter.

You would have to write the seller...both mine are marked with a white sticky label that says for Z1U only...I believe it was a sony pro camcorder...on the wide end of the lens rim (outside) it's marked PRO SERIES HD 0.7X WIDE ANGLE CONVERTER CENTURY OPTICS U.S.A.
A heavy optic...very high quality...these are new and a ridiculous price...changes every lens you put it on to 30% wider. I bought 5 or 6 cheap Chinese 77mm sky filters, removed the rear bayonet and used J&B Weld to glue the filter rings on after removing their glass....Buy more filters than you think you'll need..you have to build your mount up sufficiently to clear the rear elemant...Iuse it like this with my large Nikons and step up to 77mm with my FD's and Sigma 18-35 F1.8...hope this helps ...

The Schneider adapter is 0.7 x...no distortion and 30 percent wider...don't know the full frame answer though... use S35

I find it sad when people buy gear but are too afraid to scratch it and end up don't using their gear full potential.
If my camera is scratched, it's because I had to put it in a tough environment to get the picture. If you're too afraid to damage your gear, you can still work in studios, where everything is immaculate. But personally, I'd be outside shooting

What are you going to do with it? Keep it in pristine condition in a box until you die? Use the thing! I have a 17mm FD that I also love.

    Hey Andrew!
I sent you a pm. Don´t wanna brag about it, but there is a place in Berlin where people do just that, using all their time the dayjob leaves them and do films and more.
What can I say, it´s a pretty nifty (did i get that word right, lemme check on dict.cc:) place. Think I got the word right:)
You and some awesome people here inspired me to apply for that school and it´s been as nice as it can be, besides the burden of a non filmic day job.
Here is a screenshot from a 24h hour film challenge me and a collegue student did on the semilegendary G6, no filmschooltech allowed, just
practicals, a photolamp bounced, boosted 28mm FD and way too high iso 1600:) Shoot, now I spoiled the camera for my planned guess the camera challenge:)
cheers Andrew and friends of this awesome place EOSHD!

Maybe you just found your new shooting style... Infinity focus all of your shots and then wrap it in bubble wrap. No need to touch it.

If there's one that's the best when combining all 3, I think it's the GH4. Not the single best in any category, but solid in each.
Fantastic doc camera. Fantastic travel camera. And while there is a better, it's still a fantastic film camera in the right hands, especially with a speedbooster and the right lenses.

Hi, just looked and it is actually a Promaster 28mm f2.8 - not a Vivitar! Its supposed to be a rebrand of the Sigma mini wide II ... Good long focus throw

Andy mentions a wide angle adapter in the Lens thread that's made by Schneider....30 percent wider and zero distortion...a large optic with a bayonet mount you have to remove and modify...Andy gives detailed instructions in the thread...

I just checked the focus throw on the minolta, and well, it is very small (between 90° and 120°).
But strangely enough, I had never any problem focusing on this lens. (Although, at 28mm and f/3,5 , everything is pretty much in focus)

PannySVHS got a reaction from JazzBox in Compact camera for run&gun filmmaking
    Hey!
With compacts such as LX100 it´s tricky with manual focus, since it´s fly by wire. I myself handled the LX100 in a store. From that though limited experience
I must say, I didnt like the fly by wire focus, neither the ergonomy, neither the EVF for videoshooting or updating from my cheap G6.
Jase has quiet some experience shooting with it so maybe he can say more about handling and focussing.
For professional filming with little time I think GH4 is just great. Battery life, large EVF.
Don´t sell it unless GH5 comes up:) Maybe you like the handling and stabilization of the GX80. But still GH4 with Hdmi out, long battery life,
mic input, things the GX80 doesn´t have.
    cheers

PannySVHS reacted to Phil A in Grading in Davinci, VGA port makes things look too pretty?
The Resolve manual even says that the viewer in the color page of the software isn't accurate for judging grading, that combined with the VGA monitor is probably guesswork in the end.
If you have the space, how about a cheap 32" / 37" LCD TV connected via DeckLink? The DeckLink MiniMonitor gives you a 10bit FullHD out via HDMI and SDI for only 145 $ (plus it's the only way to get full screen playback on a second screen in Resolve). I'm using a Dell U2711 but as soon as desk space permits I'll add a FullHD TV via DeckLink.

Here is the thing can you grade on consumer monitor sure you can will it be accurate sure it will not. There is no cheap pro way to color grade. But to get really close here is my setup. Davinci + decklink mini to dell u2410 via HDMI with i1pro probe then i use free DisplayCAL to calibrate resolve viewer in resolve while using my monitor internal factory settings and it gets me dam close to accuracy. DisplayCAL i create 3d lut that is stored in to resolve viewer via software is this the right way not really but it gets me there.
This is my setup but any good monitor like dell u2410 and up like eizo nec calibrated will give you nice starter accuracy
