Panasonic is doing exactly what i hoped they wouldn't do. 

From what I've heard the cameras used  were prototype test units. Panasonic never released a beta firmware with V-Log. Also, there seems to be the assumption that if a feature can be added in firmware then it should be, as there is really no cost involved. The developers writing the code to add the new features do not work for free. So there is certainly a cost involved, but that's OK so long as it's not the consumer footing the bill right?  Software features cost the manufacturer money. It's not a freebee.
Makes sense to add it in a new model. Few and I do mean few companies will throw in major new features for free. There are exceptions... Samsung, please stand up.

I'm not seeing a GH5 before next Photokina.

I think that, if they want to continue the little "revolution" they made in 2014 - offering all the features that Canon's user wanted (4K, 60p, peaking etc...) at a fraction of the price of a 5DmkIII - it could be a smart move to sell the new GH4 with the new firmware preloaded as "R" and to offer the update to existing user for a symbolic price, in the 50-100$ ballpark. 
In that way they could confirm their intentions to listen users while Canon still sleeps in 2009 and they could try to take aboard some BlackMagic user like me: I do love the ProRes HQ from my Pocket, but using it is really annoying, so I use GH4 95% of the time because it is so simple and fast to work with.
I'm sure this could give them more exposure then spending a lot in advertising.

A paid firmware update and a pre-installed version of the camera would make way more sense than forcing existing users to sell their GH4s for new versions; Panasonic can't be that dense. 

I don't blame them for charging for V-LOG. A good LOG profile will be like having a whole new camera. And considering how many people are avoiding the GH4 based on color science, DR, and oversharpening, this will address almost every major complaint with the camera. In my opinion, that's worth a couple hundred. 

The "GH4R" rumor just seems to bolster the notion that it will be a paid upgrade. Otherwise, why would they need a new designation for a version that has V-Log pre-installed? We already have GH4KBODY (body only), GH4-YAGH (with yagh), GH4H-K (bundled with lens). And maybe others I'm not aware of. If true, GH4R is probably just the designation for: "bundled with V-log".

They haven't sent out the firmware to the testers, they sent them a camera with v-log.

Did you turn down the lcd brightness all the way? That makes a huge difference in the old Nex cameras like my NEX 7

Some quick shots with the Industar 69 28mm 2.8 on the nex 7 with flare in the end. (Purple corners is a Nex 7 thing)

Leica colors in video is a complete dream, looks so amazing.

1/25 is the lowest on the gh4

For straight NDs, I like the Tiffens. Very affordable and good performers. 

Sorry for off topic, but i want to purchase a 4/5 stop nd filter but  do not know what to get.  The main thing for me is that there is low color cast on the image.

Doesn't look like a major upgrade at all, stil no freaking permanent manual focus with samsung lenses. I wonder if zoomed focus peaking now works with videos.
I don't get why the keep on "wasting time" on features nobody asked.

get nikon, its the most adaptable mount so you can use it on alomost all cameras

Looks like im getting something better than the a6000

Hi! I found these two old lenses in a thrift shop for 40 bucks, no clue what the brand/mount is but they look interesting. The 135mm F2 is enormous so probably wont balance too well on my nex. The 21mm looks interesting but very weird with the back part of it. 
If you know anything about these lenses i would love to hear if they are worth keeping or if i should get sell them. Btw isn't F2 for a 135mm really fast?




 

For 800 dollar its a very very good deal, i edit nex 7 AVCHD on my macbook air with 4gb ram with no problems.

When recording for long, turning the lcd brightness all the way down help ALOT, on my nex 7 i can only get around 4 min in hot sunlight until it overheates. When i have screen all the way down i get 15min

The GH4 looks a lot like the GH3. Except in 4k which is nice. These weren't really intended for public consumption or I'd have done them a lot better (although the quality would probably still drop off after the first 20 or so...). Looking at them there is so much that would make the 5Dsr one a better test, but looking at the other two videos I shot as well it still walks all over the GHx cameras in this single area. This was just the handiest one to upload.

Can you upload a couple od seconds of flat picture and we can all have a go at it?
Im no colorist but others here can probably make it shine.
