Those are all cheap and built like tanks. I really did not gel with the 17-35 when I had it though, did not enjoy it's out of focus rendering compared to the others
  2. Yeah the active EF mount adapter really pushed me over the edge on it (it's this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtMBkUNoVMA), The Mark three version retails for $1700. I'm tempted to sell it but probably will keep it in case I ever need to use Canon glass on it. Made an offer to a seller on ebay and he went for it. ROI on it should be well worth it.
  3. Well my willpower didn't last, purchased my own Sony F3 with active EF adapter, rig, SD to SxS adapter, v-mount power adapter, and 3 full size NP batteries for $800. The batteries and EF adapter are worth that by themselves.

I own the camera, yes it can be turned off under the profile settings. If he used the FLAT setting with sharpening turned to 0 it would be a very different result.

Also disappointed that he neglected to turn off sharpening on the Nikon. He sure did complain a ton about something that can be turned off on the camera.
  6. You get damn close here, great job. The highlights in the Alexa just cannot be topped.
  7. So after using this recorder a bit I can safely say I am not happy with using it in a professional environment. 1) You cannot have a LUT applied out of the HDMI or the SDI. Which is absolutely INSANE and a pain in the ass in a live event environment if your trying to match the look to another camera. This feature is on all of their camera's but not their recorder?!? 2) Viewing aids do not come up easily, you need to go through the menu every time you want to ad or remove a focus or exposure aid. They are completely impossible to use quickly. Given these issues, I might be looking at selling it, I'm kinda pissed I didn't catch these issues until after my return window has passed.
  8. It's completely to taste, you can go subtle or you can go extreme, completely depends on the look your going for. My personal favorite is a supermist black 1/8, subtle adjustment.

I have, it has great rendering and very little distortion, also the manual focus ring is better than the 17-35 or 16-35. Unfortunately it has a horrendous minimum focus distance that was bad enough that it did effect it's use for video and photography. Some more of the F3, Internal S-log with Nikon 24-70 F2.8 G

Very good price for what their offering, shame about the headphone jack but at least its not the microphone in. We'll see what further testing brings to the table. Honestly the biggest feature for me is separated photo and video settings and bigger battery, those things drove me crazy when I tested the XT-3. It's the exact same as the XT-3 10 bit 4:2:0. Only added spec is 1080p 240 fps.
  11. Also want to chime in on the 300d II again, the battery holder acts as a great counterweight at the bottom of the stand. Love that they have the ability to clamp it to the stand, really makes it more of a stable setup.

For B-roll I'm usually running a on camera mic, also I'll have a backup audio mic outside my external recorder in case something goes wrong.

Gearing up for a very large documentary in terms of volume of footage, cannot afford the hard drive space to shoot it 4K off my Nikon Z6. Want LOG for grading flexibility. Also desired something with long battery life and internal ND's. At this point the F3 is looking like the ideal for me that I already have access to. Also shooting a low budget feature soon (If financing comes through), so deciding what to shoot it on. Thinking of using the 2 F3's for it and renting high end cinema glass and a grip truck, instead of renting cameras and having less to spend on lenses/lights. It's a horror film that doesn't need a 4k deliverable.

Well there goes any chance of me using it. To many points of failure.

Yes it can get a 10-bit 4:2:2 signal to the original BMVA. It's a pretty great combo now. I moved back to Cape Cod, missed it greatly when I was in philly. The media center is up here is pretty great, they have gear and edit stations as well. https://capemedia.org/ A great bunch, filmmakers, some VFX and audio engineers work their. Really a priceless resource up here.

Thanks! I've been using The Blackmagic 7" 12G recorder, works great. 10 bit 4:2:2 over SDI

Really enjoying it so far. Funnily enough it's not actually my camera. There is a great media center nearby that rents out cameras for members. A bunch of blackmagic 4K cameras, some canon handicams, and Sony Mirrorless cameras. No one rents out the 2 F3's they have, both have the S-log/4:4:4 upgrade. Perhaps it's also because they had bad EF adapters on them that flare like mad (even the sample with my face here has it, hence me buying the adapter). I've been able to borrow them for weeks at a time. I'm still early days on shooting with it but I love it, love the color even out of the internal 8-bit files. S-Log External Voigtlander 28mm SL II 2.8 Voightlander 90mm 3.5 SL II Voigtlander 40 mm f2 Internal Slog (just started shooting this but will be using it more, does not break as much as I thought it would) Nikon 24-70 2.8G

Got the Optitek ProLock Nikon G to Sony FZ adapter to mount my G lenses to a Sony F3. Got it for a low price, but holy **** it is worth every single cent, Rock solid, no play and I have confidence everything else will break before the adapter does.
  19. Exactly! What the hell took them this long. It's a brilliant integration that they should have had before now. Hell this feature alone is making me consider it for my next phone. Always having a HDMI monitor on hand is brilliant.
  20. Great stuff that your getting from this. I'm telling myself over and over again that I don't need this adapter but it looks great and ticks most of the boxes for usability.
  21. 300d mark II, from form factor to output it's a great light.

Check the Z6 after you update to Firmware 3.0, I find mine to have less viewfinder delay now, though it may be a placebo effect.
  23. My #1 issue was always forgetting/loosing tripod plates. After forgetting them on two shoots in a row I bought 10 of them, put two in my glove box and 1 in each of of my other equipment bags.
