  1. You can't just throw a cinema sensor in a still's camera and not have to worry about heat and processing power. The sensor is only a part of the equation, which is why the S1H is so expensive and has a heatsink compared to the S1.

It's why the Mini Alexa came out after the Alexa at a higher cost, because of the processing needed to run that sensor in a small form factor.

You wont see that Canon C500 Mark ii sensor in a stills camera for years if ever.

    True.

@Geoff CB One of the things that I see quite often in grading workflows is the "find anything distracting in the shot and neutralise it" step.  In this case maybe a power window that desaturates the orange to match the overall orange tone and something that shifts the blue towards green to match that tone and also desaturates it so that it doesn't stand out..

Of course, here we are harshly judging a couple of shots you might have just done a very quick grade on!

Set Decorator was lazy that day.

A little more time spent on grade. Was a test of the 4:4:4 out, love the color flexibility.

There is a F55 right now US$7K from Lebanon:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PMW-F55-Camcorder-F55-4K-with-DVF-L350/223953143717

A very low hour F55 from New York for US$9.5:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-F55-Package-for-Sale/324078328587

(recent eBay sales show the F55 has gone for US$7K, but that was from a low feedback seller)

Personally I'd go for an F5 instead! They're only $5.5K right now on eBay, and recent past sales shows F5 cameras selling for only US$4K!! 😮

Which is bonkers cheap. I'd go for the F5, it has better lowlight than an F55, and better ROI

Adorama has one for $5800 for crazy low hours. https://www.adorama.com/us 1238705.html?sterm=3G1Tv825AxyORsMxU-SAVSQkUkixg-3MEzbZSU0&utm_source=rflaid912994

Only thing is though the internal 4K option is needed for the F5 to be worth the difference. Without it it's only HD internal.

I've seen a few sony f55 going for 10k with EVF and accessories. Always wondered about this camera and it's global shutter.

It's an incredible camera at that price. I'd honestly get that camera before an Alexa classic even at double to price. The Internal 4K 10-bit 4:2:2, global shutter and insane dynamic range, internal ND's.  also a much lighter camera.

Would love a "cheap" EVF. Something around 800$.

Also a fullframe ursa mini pro in a smaller sizer than previous models with dual iso.

Didn't even consider that, I love their viewfinder for the Ursa so would absolutely love a smaller form factor version of that.

8k Raw monster? Ef mount please

In the age of mirrorless? I doubt it. I'm hoping that they join the L mount alliance.

Thanks a bunch for all the info. Super helpful. My plan would be to use third party lenses. I really dislike AF for the shooting I do. How do you think it would hold up stabilization-wise with 3rd party lenses?

also, has anyone made an electronic ef to nx adapter that would support canon lenses with stabilization?

You won't get any good stabilization with adapted lenses, and no electronic adapters are available.

To be frank, do NOT buy into this system if your not using native lenses. Period. Buy a used XT-2, or an A7rII, or a Panasonic GH4. All are better options with better features, extensive 3rd party adapters, and a path forward with future cameras.

Edit: I'm a gigantic NX1 fan, but the rolling shutter on it is horrible if don't have some kind of stabilization. I think the 16-50 and 50-150 are two of the best lenses ever made with incredible AF. If you take them and the AF out of the equation the camera is not worth it.

You can find gear to buy?? For a little while there it seemed you couldn't get the popular live streaming gear for love or money!

The blackmagic gear and switchers are all out of stock. For my needs I got this to hook up my F3: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DPVG74G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Edit: wow, Apparently I got the last SDI version of it in stock and they removed the listing, only HDMI version available. All the others have unknown delivery dates that might not be until May, crazy.

I was thinking multi cam, USB cam sounds too low fi for us pros (or we say so!) but the friend with the van solution, too specialized.

Probably self operated, not dying to be in front of one after 25+ years behind so many of them.

Better portable, or fully mobile - but not extreme, like with a mobile phone, even though, if it is easy, that would be interesting as well.

I've got a gaming laptop and a Surface Go, a BMP4K and 4 Samsung NX cameras at the moment that I can use. Unfortunately I do not do business with my old company because I was working straight 2 years on TV daily comedy series and I have lost some of my older connections, so no GH5 and no JVC LS300 anymore.

As Kye said how are you going to deal with 4 cameras and switching between them by yourself?

  9. 3 hours ago, Kisaha said:

    +1 to @kye

But in general, what one needs to make something professional these days?

    Anyone have some equipment example?

For the simple setup I'm going for I'm going to have OBS studio (Free) and have a USB camera by the laptop as a wide angle (safety) and my F3 through a SDI converter box as a movable camera. For one event I will setup the live stream as a picture in picture, and producer will be switching the camera. The other event is fine with just a one camera setup. That + lighting should be professional enough for their needs.

I have a friend that I've been tossing bigger jobs because he was lucky enough to be working on a live event setup before this all went down. He has a teradeck wireless rig to a blackmagic switcher with three mobile Blackmagic 4K cameras. He has his moniter and switching in a van that he can just drive to a location and setup quick.

It's all very well being a fella in the gold rush taking what you can and not giving anything back... What about me as moderator who has to keep a positive atmosphere in the forums and track down trouble makers? Are you saying I shouldn't bother and just let the place go to shit?

Honestly I would just not allow political posts of any kind on the forum.

haha, hey now, I've often posted about cameras!

Although, you might need to dig back quite a few years before you find them to be exclusively on topic about cameras.

If the government allows me to go outside, then I'll likely pop across to the local park (which I expect will be completely EMPTY as it is mostly just surrounded by what will now be empty office buildings) and use all my ample free time now to play around with my Sony PMW-F3 and new Sony CineAlta 50mm T2 lens which I haven't had a proper chance to do yet. (thus I'm looking forward to what @Geoff CB is putting out as well with his F3!)

Gonna start a thread about it as well. One thing of note if you shoot on the F3, the files need to be read in the editor as Full Range. If you just drag it into your editor it will default to read it as limited range and throws out information.
